Best deal in Ecuador for a home of this size and location! Beautiful Rustic 6 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath 2 story beach house directly on the beach of Manglaralto. Swim in the ocean steps from your back door or in your own private pool. Wifi all the way out to the beach, 2 kitchens, one on each floor, relaxing hammocks, media room with a tv and recliner couch, air conditioner and tv in the master bedroom, washer and dryer, plus a very large balcony upstairs to enjoy the view. This is a great family/entertainment home. Walk down the beach to world famous Montanita and check out the cool restaurants, bars and crazy night life than come back to a beautiful secluded beach home for some peace and quiet or to keep the party going. Our local caretakers are in separate house for all your needs including private surf lessons and connections to resources all over Ecuador.

**Please Note** We only have air conditioning in the master suite. No other bedrooms have a/c. The house is a true beach house with an open air design, that allows the ocean breeze to flow through the house, please also keep in mind this house is on the beach and is subject to salt water all year round. Because of this some metal is rusting or corroded it’s impossible to keep it perfect all the time, some doors are difficult to open sometimes or maybe a window. This is not a beach resort. Please keep this in mind when booking.

Fantastic beach location/short trip to town

We had an amazing town at this spacious house right on the ocean. Plenty of room for everyone and it was amazing to sleep with the waves crashing just outside our windows. Walk outside to the pool or just down the steps to the smooth sand beach. It is a short ride into Montanita to enjoy retaurants, bars and shops but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet.

The property was exactly as described. We had a great time on the property as well as the surrounding areas. The local caretaker was very helpful. The only issues we had with the property were minor. Open windows are a necessity for most of the house in order for the sea breeze to move through it. However, there were a number of screens that are in need of repair. We slept well in the air-conditioned master suite but the others in our party had more of a challenge trying to stay cool, as we didn't have much of a breeze while we were there. A couple of the numerous portable house fans were not working (salt air casualties) but were more impacted by not being able to open all the door and windows due to some of the screens not being intact. There were a number of light bulbs that didn't work and the kitchen appliances were a bit of a challenge. None of these deal breakers for us, but just noting them. We loved our stay and will not hesitate to return!

Massive cottage on the beach

This was our second time to this area of Ecuador and we will definitely be back. Definitely drawn to this spectacular coast. This house is huge, and provided ample space for the 7 of us comfortably. The view is spectacular, and common areas are very comfortable. It would definitely benefit from some TLC as the ocean breezes are working hard to eat away at all the metal they can find, so some repairs are warranted. But the location is primo - the town of Manglaralto is lovely, the people are wonderful, and the proximity and ease of getting to Montanita and Olon definitely makes this a great location. Kevin was excellent at communicating with us, had the house cleaned several times during our month-long stay, and Gilson was so helpful from everything from pool maintenance to helping us place a pizza order with the local pizzeria when our phones wouldn't work.

A Beautiful, modern, magical house right on the ocean!!

This giant, beautiful house on the beach was perfect and I am already trying to figure out when I can come back. It is close to everything including Montanita and OLON. Markets, fish markets, gas stations and everything you want is fairly close but best of all Montanita is minutes away. I had the best vacation of my life here with my significant other this November. The house was very very clean, and modern with touches of artistic beauty everywhere. I even found native orchids in the back yard. The sound of the ocean is everywhere and the views of the sunsets and sunrises…and beach access make it you’re own private paradise. We had fresh fish delivered to the house by a guy on a motorcycle from the beach and bbqed it up. We also ate out at delicious restaurants daily. We swam in the beautiful pool and ocean quite a bit with a backdrop of the most beautiful views. It’s minutes from montanita so we were able to explore montanita daily. This is the perfect place for a dream vacation. Kevin, the owner was so so nice and informative and Gilson was beyond nice and accommodating. This is one of the nicest houses I have stayed at on VRBO and I have been to many. The amenities are unrivaled. It even has a movie room! Everything went perfect and you can tell the owner takes a lot of care with making this house perfect. I literally can’t wait to go back.

Horrible experience. No owner help or communication. Made the best of a bad situation. Terrible

Upon arrival we thought this beautiful beach front house was a dream come true. We were wrong. There was a septic/sewer smell throughout the house, especially in the master bedroom that was disgusting. The toilets did not flush properly. There were also what I believed to be flies everywhere especially around the toilets. We later determined they were small bees. The house caretaker was sweet but was unable to help. The owner responded to our messages the next day and send a septic tank cleaning company to the property. The smell was so bad. We had to leave the property. Neighbors told us that Casa California always has septic and water issues when it rains since the house does not have a pump system. We were unable to use the gorgeous master bedroom because of the septic smell in the master bath room. Later that week there was a rain storm and not only did smell get worse but the water turned off. The caretaker said the pump was not working because of the amount t of rain water. Once the water level changes the water should turn on. Nope. Never did. We went two days without running water (toilets and showers). The owner responded to us on our way to the airport. He had the audacity to say that when u rent a house in a small Ecuadorian fishing town that was u get. Really ? All the other neighboring homes had water and their septic worked fine. The house is not up to date with plumbing etc. We requested a refund and never heard from the home owner again. We sent emails and texts. Do not spend ur money on this property. The beach and area is beautiful.

First of all the person writing this review is not the person who rented the house, it is his sister who is mad because I wouldn’t send the refund directly to her. Mind you I had not heard from the original renter, not during the stay or after. Please find my place on other websites to see my super host status and you won’t find any reviews like this. This is what really happened. I will be the first to admit there was a couple small issues. The day they arrived, she complained of a sewer smell in the bathroom, it didn’t take till the next day we actually had the pump truck there within a couple hours, after that I didn’t hear from her until the last day of their week stay. She started off the text about how mad she was that it was raining, then said the water and internet was out. This was carnival weekend, the busiest weekend of the whole year. The water was shut off by the city for 12 hours and was back on at 10am. The internet was indeed out with a issue from our provider. After the issues I offered a refund and tried to issue it through HomeAway but they said I could not because they had already checked out. So I messaged asking her to have her brother call or message me with his PayPal or Venmo and I would give him a refund, she demanded I send it to her, I said no because she was not the one who rented and her phone number did not match the profile. Her brother never contacted me so I never issued a refund. Everything else she said was not true

Perfect for us

No problems. Felt great for the 10 days we were there. 5 of us 3 adult children had their own space with large rooms and bathrooms. AC in master worked. Gilson lives next door and helped us with anything we needed. Really kind, nice, and helpful. Only 3-4 small concerns and they are very very minor. Some drinkable water to start vacation, because of our time arrival 4:30 am bearings weren’t straight and not sure where to or if water was ok to drink. Gilson grabbed us some first thing in morning. Then it was easy to be self sufficient. A couple more fans, as being right on the beach stuff corrodes fast and a couple fans didn’t spin. And a dust pan to clean up after ourselves. Like I said really minor. Great stay great beautiful house saw dolphins while sitting on deck. Read 4 books. Perfect.
