ESSENTIALS ABOUT SALIDA
Salida is THE place to ramp up your adventure meter and blow the gauge far off the high end of the fun scale. Do you want to zip-line, snowmobile, horseback ride, ski or snowboard, soak in a hot spring or absorb an art gallery, eat at a great restaurant, drink a fabulous local wine, beer or distilled liquor, go 4 wheeling or ATVing, visit a ghost town, go whitewater rafting or kayaking, rock and gem hunt, cycle or mountain bike, camp, golf, or fish, climb a 14'er, hike or hunt, listen to music outdoors or go to a fabulous festival? Then High Country Heaven is THE place to be.

Salida, Colorado's largest Historic District, is a close-knit, friendly community that wholly embraces energetic, peaceful, laid back lifestyles. The beautiful & charming town of 5,900 people is a short distance from the famed Rainbow Hiking Trail; offers world class mountain biking trails; has been featured on HGTV as the 'Town that Decorates an Entire Mountain;' and is called 'The Little Soho of the West' because of it's prolific, nationally acclaimed artists/galleries and large number of year-round art events.

Each June, the largest whitewater rafting festival in the country, FIBArk (short for First In Boating on The Arkansas), begins on the Tuesday before Father's Day. World champion kayakers compete during 6 days of various competitions, daily/nightly free live music is offered and a fun, festival atmosphere abounds. The local Eddyline Brewery, is the key FIBArk sponsor. Obviously, great beer selections are guaranteed. The most popular and funniest FIBArk event is the Hooligan Race (5:30 pm on the Saturday before Father's Day) where contestant teams construct theme rafts from items such as bales of hay, empty kegs, tires, floats, sofas, & bath tubs then try to navigate over rapids and under the F Street Bridge. Hollering, hooting, and hysteria richly fill the air when rafts pass through the Boat Ramp Rapids as contestants jump for money strung high across the Arkansas. Most rafts eject people, break apart, or completely flip over! The Hooligan Race is a must see event in your life.

Great place to stay, wonderful house fully equipped with everything in case you forgot something. Clean and organized with everything you need for the stay. The mountain views can be seen from any place in the cabin. Short distance to many attractions and great hiking trails. Lisa does a great job of communicating, the directions she gives to the cabin are detailed and instructions on check in and out are very clear. Highly suggest a stay here when you are in the area.

Wonderful Getaway

This house is a wonderful place for a family get away. The property is very well appointed and quite comfortable. The views are amazing and the location (surprisingly close to Salida) is perfect for both going to town and for getting on the highway to Monarch quickly.

Great place - humans and pups

We had a great, relaxing time at HCH. All the amenities were great and the home was so clean and cozy. So many nice touches. It is an ideal location - feeling remote with beautiful night skies, while being really close and accessible to Salida. It is very dog friendly - from walking the property to spending the day window watching for wildlife. Communication with Lisa was wonderful. Thank you so much for having us!

Amazing property

We live near Boulder, but Salida is probably our favorite town in Colorado. Lisa’s place was absolutely amazing for our Thanksgiving week getaway. The home is immaculate and well decorated. She’s really thought of everything. The views are incredible! You’ll feel a million miles from anywhere, yet you’re only 2 miles from downtown. It’ll be hard to stay anywhere else now when we’re in town!

Amazing home and views!

Our family’s first time visiting Salida. High County Heaven was everything we wanted and more! Clean, cozy, organized, spacious, beautifully decorated, with spectacular views and so much attention to detail from the host. We appreciated all the extra amenities offered. Close proximity to downtown and Monarch Mountain. Hope to be back for more family mountain adventures in the future! Thanks again for sharing your gorgeous home!

Very well stocked home in beautiful setting. Close to the main street, river, food, and shops.

Had a great time staying at High Country Heaven. Just a short bike ride or car ride into town if you'd like to enjoy the river, food and shops. Plenty of hiking and off-road opportunities in surrounding area. Our kids enjoyed the smoothies at Mojo Eatery, about a mile down the road. Property is also close to the town of Buena Vista (35 minutes or so). River Runners for white water rafting was great. They are located about 20-25 minutes north of Salida in Narthorp (just south of Buena Vista).

Delightful mountain getaway

HCH was the perfect homebase for our adventures in Salida. It's a three-minute drive to the center of town (literally), but wrapped in solitude once we were done for the day and wanted to relax with a quiet drink under the stars. Lisa's home is welcoming and -- important for a vacation rental -- super well-organized (with helpful labels and instructions throughout). We certainly appreciated the mountain retreat feel as complemented by all of the amenities of home (full service kitchen, satellite TV, etc.). Our family will certainly be back next time our travels take us through this part of Colorado.

Annual Biking Trip

Our family had a great time at HCH. We visit the area every summer to mountain bike and this home/location was the best yet. The house is fantastic. Clean, spacious enough for our family of 5, modern, well equipped, creatively decorated and very comfortable all around. The location is a very short bike ride to downtown Salida (but it feels totally secluded) and an even shorter ride down the hill to miles of Mtn. Bike trails, In fact, we rode everyday and only once put the bikes back on the truck rack. Lisa (owner) is a fantastic communicator and it's obvious she cares about her guests as well as her property. We would be very happy to stay at HCH again and would recommend it to anyone without any hesitation.

A Piece of Heaven

There are not enough superlatives to describe this lovely home. The kitchen was full of everything one needed, the bedrooms were fresh and spacious, the many fans throughout the house were top-notch quality, and the cathedral ceilings filled the main living area with light. We wanted for nothing. And then there is the view.....coffee on the deck watching the sunrise, wine on the deck watching the western sunset shower the eastern clouds with pink. This property is private but only 5 minutes from downtown Salida. It is close to any sport you want to indulge in and the Collegiate Peaks embrace the entire valley. The property was spotless, linens were clean, pillows and blankets plentiful. Downstairs shower could fit 6 people easily and the tub was jetted and deep. Our daughter, son-in-law and baby took over the large upstairs with loft and balcony so they had loads of privacy. The master bedroom downstairs has a tempurpedic mattress which is lucious. If we could give this property ten stars, we would.

Serenity and Beauty

I absolutely love the High Country Heaven home in Salida! I've been coming to the mountains for years and love finding new spots. This spot just up in the hills outside of Salida (not far at all- 5 minutes from town), was so pristine and beautiful. The pics do not do it justice. This place is incredibly comfortable with very nice furnishings and amenities. The master and master bath were incredible. The best part of this home is the sprawling views of the mountains surrounding the home. It looks like you are all alone in this area as there is mostly national forest around and little development at all, so it really feels like you have the mountains all to yourself. Lisa the host was extremely gracious and helpful. This place is a gem!
