Great place for a girls weekend

Such a charming apartment with great proximity to all the tourist places! There were 5 of us and it was perfect! Just know walls are thin and you can hear cars and people going by at all hours, but that is expected in a historic building and part of the charm. Highly recommend

Good location, great place to stay

This place was in a great location, close to Forsyth Park, grocery store, shuttle to downtown, and a quick drive over to downtown. Our family of 6 had enough space here and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots, and pans. There are steps to the entrance and a set of stairs from the entryway, but were not an issue.

The Gem

Myself and two friends did Thursday to Sunday in Savannah. We decided to book this apartment and let me just say, I’m so happy we did. This place was easy to find and it’s close to everything. We thought we had to change our date, but the host Mary was willing to work with us, which was very nice. We decided to come on the date anyway, and I’m glad we did. I have nothing but great reviews for this place. I will definitely book again.

Convenient and roomy

We could walk to everything. The condo was cute and plenty of room. Bonus for us was that it had back patio area that could be securely locked which provided us a place to keep our e-bikes when not in use. We rented two units with two couples in each of them and this worked really well! Would definitely stay here again!

Perfect for us!

Property was as advertised. Quiet neighborhood with ample street parking. Nice condo with large bedrooms, nice closets with hangers, large bathrooms with plenty of towels, well stocked kitchen, and washer/dryer. Close to all historic sites, grocery store, restaurants and a 20-minute drive to Tybee Island. Had quick pickups from rideshares as well. Immediate response from owner regarding a small TV issue. Would definitely stay here again!

Birthday Celebration

What a wonderful place, clean and comfortable. Parking was not a problem unlike most of Savannah’s historic area. Uber or walk were great options. Food and liquor stores very close by within walking distance. Beautiful home without the wear tear you see in many rentals. BYO soap, shampoo and conditioner.

Great Stay

Loved the location, setup, and thoughtfulness. Instructions were very clear and the location was good for walking around the historic district or hopping in the car to see the sights! As other reviews mention the front room gets a bit of noise and there’s a train that comes through for an early morning wake up call. We are heavy sleepers and didn’t mind but good to be prepared for. Generally well appointed with everything you might need for a group stay.

Nice place in Savannah

Stayed here for 3 nights with my wife and adult daughters. Unit was clean and had great communication with owner over a couple of minor issues. Unit is located on the second floor, with a long stairs to access. Location was not bad, but does require a bit of a walk to get to Old Town and Starlin District. During our stay the temperature was very hot (in the 90's) so walking (and location) was a bit tough for that reason. Location was quite safe, in a residential area. I would recommend this unit.

Good location, poorly managed

Location was great, about a 30 minute walk to city market, but if you're coming with friends the people below will complain. We made it known we came for a bachelorette party. We arrived home around 12:45 and went to bed immediately, but got scolded because we "took off our shoes too loudly". We weren't happy the way the situation was handled and will not be using this property manager again.

Savannah Get Away

Very clean. Perfect location- walkable and close to groceries, parks, squares, historical homes and trolleys. Appreciated the laundry facilities. Only one tv and could only get a few channels. Maybe we didn’t know how to work it. Outdated tourist brochures. That should be an easy fix that I am sure your guests would appreciate. Very basic. No little extras like soap in the shower. But this was all spelled out in the property description so it shouldn’t have been a surprise.

Perfect stay minus the ants and train

This condo is beautiful. It was a perfect fit for our group of 4 adults and 1 toddler. A few things to note: The walls of this condo are extremely thin. The neighbors next door had a very excited pup who liked to bark when he exited his home in the morning. There are train tracks down the road and the train was heard every morning at 6:45am. In the master bedroom there is a window that isn’t well shut so conversations on the street could be heard. The kitchen counters and dining room table were a hot spot for tiny ants. We had to keep our food up in the cupboards to keep them from infiltrating. The living room TV could use an upgrade to a smart TV in order to allow visitors to stream from their personal accounts (there are limited channels available for watching on cable). Trying to find something for the toddler to watch during a rainy Sunday afternoon was next to impossible. Aside from these minor things the condo was well maintained, spacious, and in an excellent location in terms of getting to downtown.

Perfect location for naviagting Savannah

Absolutely immaculate condo! Pictures are true to life – just as advertised. Beautifully renovated (Great pre-reno pictures in the space.) Well-appointed kitchen, comfortable LR/Dining room combo. Washer/dryer in the hall is convenient. A/C works great! Short walk to Kroger market, nice coffee shop/café around the corner. Forsyth Park is very close (nice restaurant in Forsyth Park), as is the Downtown Transportation (DOT) system (free transportation), and the hop-off trolleys and tour stops. Quiet neighborhood with the occasional loud truck/car going down the street. Neighbors were seldom heard. You can hear the train passing by but happens infrequently. All bedrooms had ceiling fans and extra pillows/bedding. The front master BR is large, bed is comfortable, and has ensuite bath with deep tub and lovely, large walk-in closet. It has the best balcony off the master with chairs and small table for morning coffee and watching the neighborhood wake up! Narrow stairs to the living space from the front door could be troublesome for some, but it is well lit and safe. Perfect for myself and my 2 adult daughters – plenty of space in each room to relax and rest before taking on the town. Walked neighborhood at all hours of the day and night, and always felt safe. Re-read the copy of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil in the bookshelf - THANK YOU! We never turned on the TV, but it is there! HIGHLY recommend this clean, comfortable, nicely decorated get-away!

We found the location easily accessible for our needs. Abundant street parking. Nice size bedrooms and bathrooms. Adequate plates, etc once we discovered them in the dishwasher. Would strongly suggest removing leaves from the front porch and outside patio prior to guest arrival for a better first impression.

About the host

Hosted by Mary

Host profile image
My husband and I enjoy spending time in Savannah as we love the southern hospitality, friendliness of the residents and beauty of the city.

Why they chose this property

We love Savannah and all of its history and charm. The genuine friendliness of the residents and visitors is second to none. It has great restaurants, entertainment, shopping, nearby beaches and countless other activities. With some 200 city-wide festivals and events each year there is always something to do and someplace to go.

What makes this property unique

Place yourself in Savannah's rich history. This property was completely renovated to help preserver the historic charm and significance that keeps Savannah a unique and beautiful city. The exterior maintains the period correct architecture while the interior has all the modern conveniences and comforts.

The original structure has been described as Vernacular Neoclassical Revival, local interpretation of a combination of Georgian Revival and Edwardian architecture. With its pediment porches and two-story porticos supported by round columns, the building has been formally identified as being of significant value as a Classical Revival apartment house'.

Originally set aside as 'Garden Lots' in General Oglethorpe's original town plan of Savannah, the land would become known as the Beach Institute Neighborhood. Early records find that in 1782 the land, named Fairlawn Plantation, was a working rice plantation. In 1853 with the advent of the Savannah & Albany Railroad, construction of Savannah's East Side began in earnest. Workers for the railroad were in need of housing and developers capitalized on that need by developing land tracts slated for building lots.

Of interest, is that a single African American woman, Mary Ellen Richardson, wholly developed the property. She owned the property from 1868 until her death in 1929. Somewhere between 1898 and 1916 the original structure was replaced with the building that stands to this day.

Mary Richardson's also built the Carpenter Italianate row house as well as a single-family dwelling in the same area.
