About the host
Hosted by Holly Brekken

Hi there, I’m Holly Brekken. It’s so nice to meet you!
My husband Montey and I live in beautiful Northern Wisconsin, where life is a little slower, the trees are taller, and you can always count on a good cup of coffee (or cocoa in my case) and a neighbor who waves. We’ve been married for quite a few wonderful years (33+), and our faith has always been the foundation of everything we do. God’s been good to us, and we try our best to live in a way that reflects that—kindness first, gratitude always.
Family is the heart of our world. We have the absolute joy of being grandparents to six amazing grandsons—yes, six! And let me tell you, they keep us busy and laughing. We spend a lot of our free time cheering them on at soccer games, attending their concerts and events, or just soaking up every moment we can with them. There’s nothing better than hearing them giggle around the house or watching them grow into their own little people.
We’ve been blessed with some incredible friendships too. Our home’s always open—whether it's for a last-minute dinner, a backyard fire, or just a good heart-to-heart over coffee/cocoa. We love people and believe in showing up for the ones we love.
And when we’re not running around with the grandkids or enjoying the outdoors, you’ll usually find us cozied up in front of the TV, binge-watching something on Netflix. I always say it’s our way of winding down together—laughing, crying, and arguing over the remote!
So that’s us—faith, family, friends, and the great outdoors. Life sure is full. And we’re grateful every day. And while we don't live on site, we are just a short drive away!

Why they chose this property
Why I Chose to Turn My Mom’s House Into a Short-Term Rental
When my mom passed away, there was a deep ache—not just in my heart, but in the quiet spaces of her home. Every corner held a memory, every room a story. This house wasn’t just where she lived. It was where she loved.
My mom had a gift for making people feel welcome. Her door was always open—figuratively and literally. Family, friends, neighbors, even the occasional stranger-turned-friend knew they’d find comfort, laughter, and in her earlier days something delicious coming out of the kitchen. She loved to entertain. It was her love language.
Holidays were her Olympics, and the 4th of July was her gold medal event. From the decorations to the food, no one celebrated quite like Mom. She didn’t just host parties—she created memories. Everyone knew they had a place at her table, and in her heart.
So when it came time to decide what to do with her home, I knew I didn’t want it to sit empty. I didn’t want it to become just a building. I wanted it to breathe again—to hold laughter and stories and life, just like it always did when she was here.
Turning it into a short-term rental felt like the perfect way to keep her spirit alive. Now, other families can come here to reconnect, celebrate, or just rest. They can sit on the porch she loved, cook in the kitchen where she loved on her family, and maybe even create traditions of their own.
In a way, this house will always be hers. But now, it’s also a gift she continues to give—offering comfort, joy, and a place to belong.
That’s what she would’ve wanted.

What makes this property unique
What Makes the House at Legacy Lane So Special
There are plenty of places you can stay when you're traveling—but the house at 1202 isn’t just a place to sleep. It’s a place that feels like home.
What makes it unique is that it was a real home, filled for decades with laughter, love, and the kind of moments that become lifelong memories. This isn’t a cookie-cutter rental. It's a space that has hosted generations of family dinners, neighborhood gatherings, and more than a few legendary 4th of July parties. Every detail—inside and out—carries a sense of warmth and welcome.
The layout is cozy yet spacious, perfect for families or small groups who want to be together without feeling cramped. The kitchen is fully stocked and ready for anything from a quick breakfast to a holiday meal. There’s a sunlit dining room perfect for morning coffee, quiet reading, or romantic dinners. And the outdoor spaces—whether it’s the front porch or the backyard—invite you to relax, breathe, and enjoy the peaceful Northern Wisconsin setting.
But what truly sets 1202 apart is the spirit of hospitality it carries. This was my late mother’s home, and she had a gift for making everyone feel like family. That heart is still here. It’s in the thoughtful touches, the welcoming vibe that greets you the moment you walk through the door.
Guests often tell us it’s not just the amenities they love—it’s the feeling they get while they’re here. That’s what makes 1202 so special. It’s a place to slow down, reconnect, and make memories of your own.
We hope you feel it too.
