About this property

Out of Africa, the Bahamas - Embrace Nature & Romance

With a tree house feel and a crow's nest view of Salt Pond Bay, savoring an absolute sunset backdrop, there is simply no other property in the Bahamas like it. With a feel that exudes the essence of a long ago safari experience, step back in time to before humans competed with nature but accepted her and got out of her way. This open plan studio canvas structure is only available from December to June - after that? We respect nature and the winds that are borne from the shores of Africa... that bring the red Saharan dust to be the soil of Long Island. Out of Africa, Bahamas.... she will take your breath away.....but with style! No sunset is complete without a bathtub, and let's be honest, a washing machine, chest freezer (for those fish for tomorrow), 2 ring electric cook top, gas barbecue, microwave, coffee pot, toaster... all the modern conveniences.... and wifi seem necessary even if glamping - especially when you need to chill the champagne and send the photo home! This is one of those insta perfect locations.

Personal comment - with multiple other rental properties, this one was just "for fun"...

HOW TO GET HERE....
If you don't know how to get to Long Island - you soon will!

From Europe:
You will probably fly BA from LHR (UK) at about 10 am to reach Nassau (NAS) at 2 pm and then look at connecting with Stella Maris Resort Air Service for a charter flight at about 3:30 pm (as of typing that is a cost per person around USD250 for the 45 minute flight)...

From the US -
Direct international flights to either Nassau (NAS) or George Town (GGT) and then on to Long Island

IF via NAS you will either connect with Southern Air Charter into Stella Maris (SML) or Bahamas Air into Deadman's Cay (LGI) - or you can use the private charter listed above from NAS. HOWEVEr.... make sure you arrive before 11am into NAS for a same day connection and triple check the schedules online to ensure the afternoon flight exists on the day you are looking.......

IF you fly via into George Town (GGT) in Exuma, our neighboring island, you can catch a ferry every Monday & Friday.... or you can book on to Stella Maris with either Stella Maris Resort Air Service, or Island Wings Charters. The flight is incredibly scenic and only about 15 minutes. Prices are however fluctuating with fuel prices to triple check before considering this route. Both Stella Maris Resort Air Service and Island Wings Charters run smaller 5 passenger aircraft.

The property itself lies about 20 minutes from either of the two airports on island - and you will need a rental car while here. Car rental prices are about USD75 per day.

If all else fails, just ask, we are here to help and can happily assist with any special requests.

I fell in love with Long Island at first sight. Rugged, untamed, beautiful and ferocious all at once. This island is one that finds you - not the other way around! Either you will hear her calling or not. Australian by birth, someone who has travelled the planet and lived all over (Oz, Middle East, Alaska, Vanuatu, Germany, Nevada), this simply was "it".

Why they chose this property

How could anyone resist the view? Everything about this property was about thinking differently. Hurricanes are very, very real and the deck that you stand on in this property is reclaimed from a house that was destroyed in the hurricane..... and thus the name "Out of Africa"... everything but everything about this property, finding her, finding my partner on island, stems from the weather that all starts off the coast of Africa - for it is off the coast of Africa that every hurricane season we all look towards... by the time the tent, the furniture and the red Saharan dust of the soil was taken into consideration... what other name could she possibly have been given?

What makes this property unique

This is simply the most unique property in the Bahamas. It is hard to ever say that but it is. I hand built every single inch of her.
