About this property
Stylish 1BR Waterfront Cottage w/Garden & Fire Pit
Dreamy waterfront garden cottage with a private office for work. Easy access to your own private beach. Spectacular views of Mt Rainier, Bainbridge Island + Port Orchard. Firepit / kayaks included.
Very strong Wi-Fi. MANY STAIRS!
Sleep in a luxurious queen-size canopy bed in a semi-enclosed loft. Smell the ocean air - hear the waves. Two, single sofa beds allow additional guests.
10 min from the Bremerton ferry and Navy Base. 15 mins to Bangor, 5 min to public golf course..It's Paradise
This cozy cottage was built when this area was served only by steam ships docking at an estuary nearby. Recently renovated, this split-level is perched between the main house on the property and the beach below. Above the luminous dining room and well-equipped kitchen is a magical bedroom loft, enclosed by antique Chinese screens. The room below is a dedicated office area (with door and sofa bed), making it perfect for a WFH getaway. An adjoining, covered outdoor dining and sitting area is steps from the kitchen.
Generous windows open to a view of the beach and a glorious garden with a beachside patio surrounding a firepit, and a large teak table on a gorgeous garden patio. Sculptures abound in the surrounding gardens.
Guests may use kayaks with provided life jackets at their own risk. Others may prefer sitting on the rocky beach with their feet in the water. The nearby dock allows fishing, crabbing and squid jigging in season.
You'll have access to your attached patio, the garden patio, the waterfront patio/firepit, and the beach.
Your co-host Cheryl will meet and guide you to the cottage, and provide a short orientation. Otherwise, we'll leave you alone except when you reach out for assistance. (The home above the cottage is the owner's private residence.)
This charming and quiet beach neighborhood is close by the Illahee State Park (fee, with beach and forest) and the Illahee Forest Preserve (free), which make for magical walks in the woods and/or on the beach. Illahee is the most desired neighborhood in Bremerton.
The waterfront cottage offers views of Bainbridge Island, Port Orchard and Mt Rainier. You will hear and see wildlife, which is abundant on the waterfront. (Binoculars are provided with the cottage.) Brownsville Marina is just down the road, with nice viewing benches near the coffee shop.
You'll feel like you're miles away from anywhere, making it a great escape. In reality, there is a full range of shopping, restaurants and groceries just 5 minutes away. The charming Manette business district is nearby with 2-3 fine restaurants and bars, a cannabis shop, and well curated, funky antique shops. A French Bakery (Saboteur, 2110 E 11th St, Bremerton) has lines out the door and sells out everyday.
All the riches of the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas are in easy reach.
Your neighborhood is a quiet waterfront community along a road without sidewalks.
You can spend the day walking the public-access beach. The public Rolling Hills Golf Course offers an 18-hole public golf course 5 min away. Manette is a lovely town just across the bay from the Bremerton ferry terminal. Brownsville is a waterfront marina with a cute little store. Poulsbo is a charming Scandinavian walking village with the famous Sluys Bakery (18924 Front St NE).
There is room to park one car in the property's circular drive, which is sometimes shared with other vehicles. A trellis over the drive will not admit extra-tall vehicles or camper vans. Additional parking is available in front of the unused 5834 Illahee Rd garage, parallel to the street. Temporary parking can be found at the Illahee public dock (past 8 houses down the street); use caution as there are no sidewalks.
Washington State's Bremerton Ferry is 10-15 min away for access to downtown Seattle (1 hour by car; 30 minutes by Kitsap Fast Ferry). Paid parking is available near the ferry terminal. To park for free, leave your car at the McWilliams park-and-ride lot (3333 Wheaton Way, 5 min away) across from Walgreens and Safeway. Check schedules with care.
Thirty, wide cement stairs, with limited railings, take you from the parking area to the cottage, making it perfect for the fit adventurer. The reward, of course, is getting close enough to the water that lapping waves will charm your sleep.
No candles allowed.
Check online to be sure that outdoor fires are currently allowed. A burn ban is not unusual late in the summer.
Before eating your seafood harvest, check online to comply with seasonal harvest restrictions, or red tide alerts.
Some neighbors cultivate oysters on their beach fronts; please don't take their oysters or disturb their beds.
