This place has so much charm. House is beautiful. The view is amazing. There is nothing I can say that is negative. I wish we would have booked a longer stay. We will definitely stay again.
We stayed for a month in July and had an amazing experience. There is so much to do on the property, close by, and within an hour drive.

Our family felt so relaxed in this lovely historic home. The views were beautiful with the changing leaves and the water. We enjoyed everything about the property and hope to revisit in the future.
Carolyn was very welcoming and even left fresh baked muffins for our arrival. The house is picturesque with a spectacular view of the lake and mountains. Close to just about everything. We hiked Mount Major, toured around the lake towns and took in a concert. The fire pit is a great bonus!

Thanks Laurie, for taking the time to write a review.
This property was breathtaking. We stayed for the last weekend in September and the view to the lake was beautiful. I was here for the morning of my wedding and it was so peaceful and calming to sit outside or to sit in the kitchen with the windows open.

We absolutely love Cherry Cottage! We are so sad to leave. The view, the ambience, the location near Gunstock, everything was wonderful. We loved the antique flair, the fire pit, and did I already say the view?! The communication was great, and we can’t wait to come back. We wish we lived here year-round!
Fun and beautiful cottage.
Had everything we needed for our use
Beautifully landscaped. Lots of blooming flowers.
Stunning views of lake.
We used fire pit at night for smores and made burgers one evening on charcoal grill.
Easily accessible to Laconia, Gunstock, and lakes.
Lovely historic home with great views both from the table next to the kitchen and from the seating outside. We spent much of our time in these two spots. The home has been restored to provide appreciation for its history and also for modern living. We enjoyed the homemade muffins and had everything we needed to relax and spend time together. Easy access to the house and to other local spots around the lake.

1821 homestead with all the charm and updated including a subzero that kept up with allour needs. All beds and sofa sleeper very comfortable. Lots of superior linens, not missing anything in kitchen, lovely lookout from dining room of Lake Winnepasaukee, lovely sitting area oveorlooking the lake and great outdoor fire pit. Daily visits by deer and turkeys. Zipline and loads of hiking trails down the road from CHERRY COTTAGE. We cannot say enough about the location. Near Weirs beach to catch the wonderful Sophie mailboat and tour, Castle in the Clouds and local great dining.Shaws,Walmart, Hannaford all within 5 miles. There is so much to be said that made our 35 night stay so memorable including our specialhosts Carolyn and Stephen. Highly recommend!
We rented the home for the weekend for a concert. The house is beautiful, immaculate, spacious and we needed for nothing. It overlooks Lake Winnipesaukee, and it is breathtaking.

About the host
Hosted by Carolyn Johnson
Originally from Texas and Illinois, we served abroad in the US Foreign Service over two decades, collecting souvenirs in Asia and Europe. Our 3 children are all grown now, only with us on holidays at Cherry Cottage. We continue work from home (immigration law and renewable energy consulting) in the other of the two buildings on the compound.
Why they chose this property
We loved the scenery, the warm, straight-talking New Englanders and the wealth of outdoors activities offered by New Hampshire's Lakes Region. When we saw this property, it seemed a perfect for us now, when our children are rarely here but we can have access to the beautiful outdoors to kayak, hike, snowshoe, cycle or ski whenever it works.
What makes this property unique
Visitors confirm our sense that the view from our ridge of Lake Winnipesaukee and the Ossipee Mountains to the east is truly delightful. It wasn't till we lived here though that we began to collect photos of the spectacular sunrises over the lake and mountains. We thought the 1821 Cape Cod farmhouse, with original moldings and proportions appropriate to 200 years ago, was charming and cozy but the kitchen and baths are modern and efficient, just as they should be. You can curl up with a book on the Master Bedroom window seat, ensconced in throw pillows and an afghan, while soup or spaghetti sauce bubbles gently on the stove and bread rises in the "warming oven", casting a glance from time to time out the wide window on the view towards the White Mountains.
Convenient both to amenities like Gunstock Resort (1.1 miles away) and Route 93 (about 5 miles), one can get to Manchester Airport in about a hour, Boston in 90 minutes, Hampton Beach in 45 minutes, Lake Winnipesaukee in 10 minutes and a half dozen other ski resorts or state parks for a variety of outdoor sports in New Hampshire, within 45-60 minutes. Charming Wolfeboro, NH is about 30 minutes drive.
