About this property
The Hacienda Parkview. Historical charm and character. It embraces village-style
Space
The house is open-plan and modern, with its own outdoor area and set in our peaceful garden. It is sunny, private and with high ceilings and a mezzanine bedroom area. full kitchen with microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge and but carefully selected cooking equipment. The two bedroom is furnished with comfortable double bed. It is ideal for one or two guests. If you wish to have a third guest that will be a squeeze but possible. The house provides space for your work and relaxation. Relax on the couch to enjoy the DSTV cable TV. Catch up on email and work at the work/dining table using the fast uncapped wifi. A lot about how we have designed the house is a result of our own experience of travelling and of what works for us when we travel. We have created a home away from home that has what a traveller needs in self-catered accommodation. We have furnished and decorated the house with art and design from southern Africa. From the house you would not guess that there are shops and restaurants in walking distance and that the city, Johannesburg’s universities and the vibey and popular nightlife of Melville are a ten minute drive away. The cottage is serviced once a week – it is cleaned, tidied and linen and towels changed. We are happy to arrange that the house are cleaned on extra days for a small additional fee. We don’t offer a laundry service and instead guests have access to a washing machine and washing line on the property. We also guide guests to the “drop and collect” laundry service in the neighbourhood. There is secure parking on the premises for two cars. Spacious, sunny house designed for your comfort? This is for you. Enjoy relaxed living with all the amenities. With parking. In Parkview, where you can walk, cycle and jog along the tree-lined roads and parks, close to shops and restaurants.
Price day, week and monthly.

About the host
Hosted by Oscar Gutierrez
From Guatemala, I spent my childhood in Central America before moving to the United States at the age of 18 to study engineering. Having worked as an engineer for some years, my passion for photography took me to the University of Rochester, New York, where I studied photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Since then I have worked as a professional photographer which has taken me all over the world.
Since my first job as a photographer, at NASA in the US, I have travelled and lived for short periods in Latin America, the Caribbean, Israel, Canada, Mozambique – but since 1994 I have called South Africa home.
I have been lucky – since arriving in southern Africa I have documented a range of events and issues in politics, arts and culture, religion and other fields. I have been privileged to cover some significant political and cultural events in southern Africa, from the first general elections in South Africa in 1994, to Mozambique’s first general elections after the country’s independence from Portugal, to living conditions of Mozambican refugees in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and South Africa.
When I am not working, my partner Michelle and I enjoy South African music, road trips around the country, spending time uncovering the vibrancy of this region.
Michelle and I moved to our Parkview home 4 years back and find that living in a peaceful and beautiful area mean we can relax and enjoy the birds, outdoor living – as well as the restaurant and café culture of the area and surrounds. Melville, a popular night spot, is a 20 minute walk from our home.
While renovating our home we spent 3 months living in one of our cottages and through that, we worked out what was needed to make it comfortable and convenient to live in. The renovation process was what prompted us to start offering the cottages to guests – as well as the fact that we thought the peace and quiet of the place would suit others. We have two independent cottages, both of which are renovated
