About this property
Private Couple’s Mtn Getaway;Borders GSMNP;Seasonal Mtn Views;Owner Operated
Enjoy the mountain views and beauty of all four seasons from this charming chalet tucked cozily away high atop Ski Mountain!! Our guests will enjoy the privacy of being at the end of the lane that borders the Great Smoky Mountain National Park! This large, one bedroom mountain chalet, privately operated by the owners and exclusively designed for a couple, is located less than 1 mile from Ober Mountain Ski Resort and Amusement Park and approximately 3 miles from downtown Gatlinburg . Being on the border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park allows visitors the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful mountain views and abundant wildlife (including black bears!) while having a front row seat as the seasons unfold in the Smokies! Cherished memories are sure to be made in this romantic retreat for two. Escape from your everyday world for the perfect change of pace and enjoy the gorgeous views complete with the Ober Mountain Aerial Tram periodically passing by in the distance.
From the moment you arrive at this lovely chalet, a rustic, romantic atmosphere will surround you. Enjoy preparing meals in the fully equipped kitchen. The living area is a wonderful place to spend time as you snuggle up by the stone gas fireplace (operational October-March) on the leather sofa or comfy recliner and enjoy a DVD on the Blue-ray player from our collection, a movie via Netflix, or your favorite TV show on the 55 inch flat screen TV. The main level also features a game room with a full size pool table. Games, playing cards and puzzles are provided for your convenience. Relax and enjoy the views and the sights and sounds of the forest as you unwind from the upper deck's log rocking chairs or from the porch swing. You will have the feeling of being in a tree house as you enjoy this outdoor sanctuary from the upper porch!
The lower level provides a romantic setting for two: Watch your favorite movies from the comfortable king size log bed on the 50 inch flat screen TV above a second cozy gas fireplace (operational October-March). A private area with Jacuzzi tub is just off the bedroom, as well as a large master bath with an over sized shower. There is a lower deck off the bedroom area where you will enjoy spending time in the inviting hot tub while viewing the lights of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge by night and the aerial tram and beautiful mountain views by day.
You can plan a private cookout for two on the park-style charcoal grill located near the entry of the chalet and enjoy your meal on the porch surrounded by the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you choose to go out for dinner, you will find excellent dining choices just a few miles down the mountain in downtown Gatlinburg or at Ober Mountain Ski Resort. You may choose to drive a very short distance and park at Ober Mountain and ride the Aerial Tram down the mountain to dine or shop in the many unique shops downtown. As a member of Chalet Village Owner's Club please use our membership card provided for access to three club houses on the mountain, each with pools (seasonal), recreational areas and exercise equipment. This card also offers discounts at numerous attractions and restaurants in the Gatlinburg area. You are sure to find the ingredients for a perfect Smoky Mountain getaway at Bear Whisperer Chalet!

About the host
Hosted by Keith and Paula Henson
After growing up in the Spartanburg/Greenville area of SC, I married my high school sweetheart and moved to Tennessee. My husband began his career as an electrical engineer and I as an elementary school teacher. We raised our three children (who are all University of Tennessee graduates) and are now enjoying our new role as grandparents! As a retired 1st grade teacher, I was missing the contact I once had with so many wonderful families who touched my life over the years. Our rental chalets have become my new "classroom" and have not only provided me with a new creative outlet, but also with the opportunity to "cross paths" with so many wonderful guests from all over the country and beyond!
Why they chose this property
We have lived in the shadows of the beautiful Smoky Mountains for many years but only recently decided to make Gatlinburg our “home away from home” and purchased two lovely chalets near the summit of Ski Mountain. We discovered that Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have so much to offer our family. If it was peace and quiet surrounded by the beauty and wildlife of the park, hiking the many beautiful trails in the park, the excitement of shopping and sightseeing in the unique little town of Gatlinburg, or perhaps the thrill of the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park we were looking for we found it here. Gatlinburg has much to offer everyone in our family!
What makes this property unique
We quickly decided that the Chalet Village community on Ski Mountain was the place for us with its unique Bavarian flair and quaint chalets scattered across the mountainside! Of even greater importance was the close proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our front door is located less than twenty steps from the park boundary and is within walking distance to one of the many beautiful trails open to visitors of the park. We immediately fell in love with the beautiful views especially when the Ober Gatlinburg tram passed by with screams of excitement as passengers topped the highest tower! In the other direction through the national park forest we can view the three distinct towering peaks of Mt. LeConte! We truly have a panoramic view! We enjoy the abundance of wildlife that is literally in our backyard and often delight in seeing mother bear and cubs passing through on their daily rounds to and from the park. There was never a doubt in our minds that this was the perfect getaway location! We also take pride in knowing that our guests receive the ultimate in hospitality! We personally prepare for our guests' arrival and add all of the personal touches to make it a special experience and one that will provide cherished lasting memories!
