About the host
Hosted by Rob Smith

I own my construction business where I build custom homes, renovate, and maintain high end properties. I have a family with 3 kids and lots of pets. We enjoy traveling and have stayed in our fair share of rentals, where we've kept track of things that make it a better stay for us. We are from FL, but we love our NC property where we can get out of the heat and enjoy the farm lifestyle and green living. We have always been involved in green building practices and try to live our life with these ideals in mind. Preserving the environment and protecting our resources have always been priorities for us.
Why they chose this property
This property spoke to us in a way that others did not. We had a checklist for things that were important to us when choosing a location and this property met them all. We had to be relatively close to an airport, have land where we felt like we were away from our neighbors with wooded and open areas, we wanted to have flowing water and wildlife, we wanted a high enough elevation to have a temperature drop to get out of the summer heat, and we wanted to feel at peace and relaxed when we stayed there. This property met all of these criteria for us.
What makes this property unique
There are so many reasons that this property is unique. First is the location, it is just high enough in elevation that it has cool summer breezes and crisp mornings and evenings. The property is open and beautiful in every season, and it is isolated from traffic and tourists. We have spring and summer crops, flowing streams, hiking opportunities and wildlife on the property. It isn't just a mountain house on a hill with a great view, there are open meadows for the kids to play or to just enjoy the wide open space. It's not far from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas and major hubs but when we are here, we prefer not to leave. We have a small family farm adjacent to the property for those that love a variety of animals from alpacas to Highland Cows, chickens and Valais Black Nosed Sheep, and KuneKune Pigs.
