The Coon Cage, part of Grand Spruce Lodge, is a fully restored 1940s log cabin that blends antique charm with unique taxidermy touches, set on a quiet bay with crystal-clear water and a beautiful sandy beach just 20 minutes north of Kenora, Ontario. Part of Grand Spruce Lodge, a five-acre lakefront property with three cabins, it offers the perfect balance of community and privacy. Inside, two main-floor bedrooms each feature twin-over-double bunk beds, while the spacious loft boasts a king bed. The modern open living area complements the rustic décor and antique accents, creating a cozy yet comfortable space. A screened veranda with outdoor turf and a casual putting green invites relaxed mornings, while the BBQ deck is ideal for evening cookouts.
The shared waterfront is a highlight, offering a water trampoline, solar-powered slide, floating lily pad, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, and badminton gear. The well-stocked Lakeside Shed includes beach toys, life jackets, goggles, pool noodles, and a pump for inflatables. Around ten friendly, free-roaming chickens and two sociable Sebastopol geese roam the property, delighting guests of all ages. While the beach and amenities are shared with two other cabins and the owner’s family, the property’s layout ensures plenty of space and maintained privacy.
The water supply is drawn from the lake and is safe to drink thanks to a three-stage filtration system combined with a UV light purification unit that eliminates 99.99% of bacteria. All water and beach amenities are used at your own risk, as there is no lifeguard on duty. The owner may occasionally be on-site for maintenance or enjoying the dock and beach with family. Whether you’re here to fish, swim, relax on the veranda, or soak in the nostalgic feel of a classic log cabin, The Coon Cage offers a perfect mix of rustic charm, comfort, and lakeside adventure.

About the host
Hosted by Khris Kharoufeh
I’m originally from Manitoba and now live in Redditt, Ontario, where I love everything about lake life and the outdoors. When I’m not hosting, I’m usually busy with a project, fishing, boating, or relaxing by the water with my family. Hosting gives me the chance to share the beauty of this area with others and help guests create their own unforgettable memories here.
Why they chose this property
I chose this area because it offers the perfect mix of peace, nature, and lakefront living. The neighborhood is quiet and welcoming, with only a few cabins along our private dead-end road. I love waking up to the sound of loons, spending afternoons on the water, and watching the sun set over Armstrong Lake. It’s a place where life slows down, and you can truly relax and enjoy the beauty around you.
What makes this property unique
What makes my property unique is the combination of rustic charm, stunning lakefront views, and all the fun that comes with being right on Armstrong Lake. Each cabin has its own character, from vintage touches to cozy decks, while sharing access to a sandy beach, a water trampoline park, and other great amenities. The friendly free-roaming chickens, Sebastopol geese, and our two friendly dogs are always a hit with guests, adding a warm, personal touch you won’t find just anywhere.
