About this property
100 Acres of Privacy & 50-Mile Views
New meets old at this completely remodeled farm house situated on nearly 100 acres with stunning westerly views. Outdoor amenities provide year-round fun and include a swimming pond, a modest apple orchard, and open fields at the top of Shaker Mountain. The c. 1810 post-and-beam farmhouse features gorgeous original pine floors, a blend of antique and new furniture, hand-woven rugs, and charming details throughout.
The first floor has a brand new open kitchen / family room with stunning views to the west and an iconic Malm fireplace, an adjacent dining / living area complete with wood stove and exposed beams, a full bathroom with tub/shower, a comfortable den that doubles as a 5th bedroom (with king-sized pull-out bed), a half-bathroom with vintage barn door, laundry, and the private master suite. The master bedroom has a queen bed, a cathedral ceiling, and windows facing beautiful views on three sides, while the bathroom includes a custom double vanity and large tiled shower. There is also a twin mattress that can be pulled from under the bed, perfect for a child or low-maintenance adult.
Upstairs, three additional bedrooms with their own shared gathering space and a bathroom with shower provide plenty of room for family and friends. The west-facing bedroom has a queen bed and the best views from the house. The south-facing bedroom has a pair of twin beds and overlooks the orchard, and the north bedroom sleeps three in twin bunk beds as well as a single. Between the bedrooms, there is a spacious sitting area / play room, perfect for quiet reading or playful children, depending on the crowd.
The property is situated at the end of a town-maintained dirt road, offering total privacy. There are 50-mile views facing west to Vermont, and the sunsets are sensational. Several small outbuildings dot the property, and the orchard contains more than 20 apple trees of various types. There are high-bush blueberries, raspberry brambles, and wild blackberries. The spring-fed pond across from the front of the house has a sandy bottom and a center depth of roughly 8', making it perfect for cooling off on a summer day.
Shaker Mountain Farm is accessible and inviting all year round. The house is 2 hours from Boston and 5 hours from New York City. There are some great skiing options nearby: 25 minutes to Mount Sunapee, an hour to Killington, and only a few minutes to family-oriented Whaleback Mountain. Dartmouth College is less than 20 minutes away, and it's 30 minutes to Woodstock, VT, or 25 minutes to Sunapee State Beach.

About the host
Hosted by Lauren Cosulich
I am a forty-something professional who loves art, traveling, flowers, good food, high tea, farms, home design, opera, MythBusters, and especially my husband and two precious daughters. I grew up outside of Boston, went to college in North Carolina, lived in San Francisco for twelve years, and moved back to Boston in 2014 to be closer to family. We love New England but I definitely feel that I left a small part of my heart in San Francisco. As for travel, I've loved destinations as varied as Santa Fe, New Mexico; Milford Sound, New Zealand; Sea Ranch, California; Pondicherry, India; Asheville, North Carolina; Bellagio, Italy; and Woodstock, Vermont.
Why they chose this property
Our family thinks Shaker Mountain Farm is a little slice of heaven! It's a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban living, but it's a great home base for the adventure and excitement that this part of New England offers, whether it's playing down at Lake Sunapee, hiking or skiing any of the nearby mountains, dining in quaint Hanover or Woodstock, or taking in science, art and culture at close-by Montshire Museum in Norwich, VT, or Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth.
