Creek and trail shuttles, bird and nature walks, extra firewood, mobility classes available. Ask about retreat center and day rates (not available on platforms, only direct).
Enjoy glorious sunsets over the Potomac River, where it meets Antietam Creek. Start your day with coffee or tea, watching sunrise over Elk Ridge.
Naturalist Emily maintains the property for birds and wildlife. Native trees, shrubs and flowers surround the property.
Inside, 2 queen beds with fresh linens, fluffy pillows, cozy blankets and blackout curtains ensure restful sleep. The Great Room faces south for passive solar heating and unmatched natural light. Local guide books reveal hidden history. Cook delicious meals in the fully equipped kitchen. A LayZBoy recliner couch beckons, in front of the E-fireplace. The 50-inch smart TV connects to your devices.
This property offers a variety of activities, whether hiking, biking, kayaking, birdwatching, or simply a peaceful retreat.
We use necessary disinfection, essential oils, mattress and pillow covers against bedbugs. No artificial fragrances.
Built in 2024 with sustainable methods, sited for maximum efficiency, the Dome is part of our ongoing ecological restoration project. We are close by, and love the rich history and biodiversity here. Renting directly with locals, rather than platforms, keeps cash in the community.
Ask about retreat pricing, we can recommend local caterers, and provide yoga mats, blocks, and foam rollers. Quiet retreats only, please. No drum circles, please! Acoustic music inside, is fine.
No smoking or vaping on this property! Fire sprinklers in the Dome triggered by smoking or vaping can cause catastrophic damage. Evidence of vaping or smoking inside will result in retention of security deposit plus an additional cleaning fee of $300, even if sprinklers are not triggered. If you must vape or smoke, use your own vehicle, or leave the property. Between fire danger, viruses in tobacco, cigarette litter and lingering flavored vape stink, there are no benefits to smoking or vaping on the property. We will ask you to stop and if you refuse, you will need to leave. No refunds for breaking the rules. Violation may result in $300 penalty fee.
A Level 2 Destination Charger for your EV is free for guests.
While we ask guests to bring no pets, if you have a medical service animal, please send service animal certs and we'll work with you.
All new construction, single level with wide doors & step-in shower. We have a Level 2 E-vehicle charger, and adapters. We have a shower bench, toilet riser, & suction-on shower handle. The property is low fragrance- we do not use stinky air fresheners, only essential oils, ion air filters, & fresh air. This property is equipped with smoke alarms & fire sprinklers. We use bedbug-proof mattress & pillow covers, for all our sakes!
The main room has a barrel ceiling with lots of natural light, showcasing Emily’s photography. French doors lead to an expansive patio with Solo Stove fire pit, surrounded by a native plant garden.

Thank you, Joy! It was wonderful to have you. See you next time!
A very comfortable, iconic spot. Beautiful views through the back windows. Well appointed kitchen. Level 2 charging provided in an area w/very few public charging options. Large airy spaces. Very responsive hosts. Well situated with access to local venues, C & O canal, and Antietam history. A place to which I will return.

Y’all were wonderful guests, we appreciate how very clean you left the place- & started laundry! Thank you!
Loved the area. House was very clean and the host were very polite. The water has a very foul odor from the well, but that is not within the host control so everything else was excellent.

The well passes all health standards, but the H2SO4 has a sulfur smell.
It is good for skin, we’ve been tempted to market it as “spa water” 😉.
We’ll update the well as soon as we can afford to, until then, we include fragrance tabs for the shower. 😎
Our family of five were in town for a wedding right down the street at Greenhill Farms. It was the perfect location with beautiful viewa. The dome had so many extra amenities. We will be visiting again! Thank you Emily!!
Emily and Chuck are fantastic hosts and the Dome was a great place to stay. Had come to finish riding the C&O canal trail, some hiking and visiting DC. The Dome is very quiet. Got to see hummingbirds visit their feeder multiple times and cardinals and purple finches coming to the seed feeder. Also got to see multiple deer, rabbits and butterflies. Woke up every morning to some very talkative birds. The dome had everything I needed, comfortable couch, bed, tv, desk, grill and a nice covered patio. And thanks to their hike recommendation, was fortunate enough to see an owl take flight three times while on a hike to Weverton Cliffs and a section of the Appilachian Trail out to the Ed Garvey. Can't and won't guarantee that everyone will be as lucky.

About the host
Hosted by Emily & Chuck Gordon
Chuck is a disabled Veteran and retired DOD civilian and who has worked in hospitals, as an EMT/paramedic, respiratory therapist, Soldier and civilian for DOD.
Emily is lifelong naturalist active with the Potomac Audubon Master Naturalists. If you have questions about local ecology, she is happy to educate and inform. Emily is a Fascial Fitness trainer and mechanic for the human body, trained in Rolfing® structural integration and osteopathic manual technique in Germany and the US.
If you would like a "trail tuneup" a Fascial Fitness session (we provide mats and foam rollers) or nature walk, check out our Options and Extras (subject to availability).
Emily grew up in Austin, Texas. She and Chuck met doing Classical Japanese martial arts and have lived in Indiana, Bavaria and here.
The property has been our ecological restoration experiment, since 2015. You may notice that there is less underbrush, and a lot of small trees in cages. The land is "in rehab" systematically suppressing invasive olive, honeysuckle and Ailanthus.
Emily also sprays for poison ivy and ragweed (we can't get all of it, so be careful!). Chuck mows walking paths, and the field east of the rental. The rest, we leave in meadow, for butterflies, birds and pollinators.
Many of the young trees are white oak, a keystone species long missing from the local ecosystem. There are wild black raspberry, honeysuckle, lemon balm, thyme and sage plants, for use in drinks or cooking.
We have a martial arts group, practicing in the smaller Quonset or outside, you may see us sometimes. Why they chose this property
There are three National Parks within 15 miles! A Level 2 Destination Charger available. Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park, Antietam National Battlefield Park, and Harpers Ferry National Park all within 10 minutes to a short drive.
Perfectly situated at the confluence of Antietam Creek and the Potomac River, this is the only locally owned rental with a level 2 charger in the area.
With its barrel ceiling and rich natural light, spacious patio with firepit and charcoal grill, the Dome is purpose-built for travel in the area.
All one level, no stairs, with wide doors, it is designed to be accessible.
Close to necessities and nature, the location is hard to beat. Spend the day studying history, enjoying cultural events, having outdoor adventures, or just going for walks and spending time in a peaceful place.
We have bike racks and covers a handy air pump. You can rent bikes and tube floats from us.
We use low VOC cleaning products and no artificial room fragrances, only essential oils.
Smoking/vaping is NOT allowed inside. Exposure to vape or smoke can cause dangerous asthma symptoms for us.
Pets: No pets, due to owner allergies (and request of farmer neighbor - dogs can get loose and harass or injure livestock). Please send certifications if you have a service animal. Keep your 4-legged helper on a leash, if outside, and make sure they have their own bed. Boarding facility listings follow, if you are bringing an animal that cannot stay with us. Extra cleaning fees apply, if an animal has been in the property for any reason. Fur, dander and odor are VERY hard to eliminate. Thank you for understanding.
