About this property
Kendall's Northern Retreat
You will be close to everything when you stay at this centrally-located but private getaway. You'll be minutes away from the lake, Bridge, downtown, parks, ferries, restaurants, stores and a major trailhead. There is a great view of Mackinac Island from the end of the driveway. This large, family-friendly retreat will help you relax so you can focus on making those lasting memories during your stay. For the winter guests, please follow Straits Area Snowmobile Club on FB for trail conditions.
There are 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed. Then there is a large room with curtained off sleeping areas, currently (the goal is to make it into separate bedrooms down the road). One of the areas has a king size bed and the other has twin bunk beds with an additional twin bed. There is a queen size air mattress and a pack and play that can be set up in any of the rooms. There is plenty of parking on site, a nice yard and fire pit. The ceilings are about 7' in height, which is about a foot shorter than normal ceilings. The bathroom ceilings in the shower area are shorter still, about 6'6" high.
Please note that there is only one air conditioning unit in the front end of the house.
We joined VRBO in September 2025 but have been hosting on the "other" platform since May 2024.

About the host
Hosted by Chris Kendall

We want to share a little background on this area and what it means for us. Chris and Tressa have been through this area countless times when we were growing up, visiting family in Michigan from our home in Wisconsin. As teenagers (16 & 14), we made a trip on our own (don't tell social services) and went out to the island on our way. Fast forward to when we were adults with families of our own. By this time, Chris was married to Lori. Our mom had passed away and we had a little bit of life insurance money left over. We racked our brains trying to determine how to use it, in a way Mom would appreciate. Among other things, Mom was prioritized family and traveling. We decided a joint family trip to Mackinaw would be the perfect way to honor our mom, especially since none of our children had ever been. We had so much fun that we made it a regular trip. That was 2012 and we have been back several times since because just love the area. At one point, we joked we should get our own place and have a permanent place to go. That idea took hold, and the place you’re staying at is the culmination of our countless trips through the area and across the Mighty Mac.
Why they chose this property
The location is great, with easy, quick access to so many things, but quiet enough and private enough to be enjoyable.
What makes this property unique
This house actually started out as a garage and shed and has been renovated and remodeled into the cozy home you see today. Our two families created this relaxing retreat because we love to vacation together in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This home's location happens to be perfectly situated between our homes in Wisconsin and lower Michigan. It is also close to so many fun activities we enjoy in the Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island and St. Ignace areas. We hope you enjoy this home as much as we do!
