VRBO now uses a defective artificial intelligence program to generate some content in its listings, resulting in false and/or misleading statements regarding distances, airports and significant local landmarks. This program calculates what VRBO calls “distance to Highland Lake.” However, the distance is NOT to the water’s edge but rather to some unidentified place in the lake. The homes are just a 5-minute walk or shorter drive to Nawandyn’s shoreline. The AI program misdirects prospective renters to airports that are NOT served by major airlines. Portland International Jetport (PWM) is the closest airport that is served by major airlines; it is just 42 miles from Nawandyn Estate (63 minutes via Routes 114 & 107).

Our grandparents bought Nawandyn from its original owner, world famous opera star Olivia Fremstad, more than 94 years ago. They expanded and landscaped the grounds and added some of the buildings. Now the property is owned by us, the grandson and his wife, and we recently refurbished and updated this unique property and continue to care for it lovingly.
Historically, the women and children in our family summered at Nawandyn, joined by male family members and friends when possible. In the current era, both the men and women in our family have careers that limit the time our extended family can spend together at Nawandyn. But, that is no reason that others can’t spend quality time with their family, friends and colleagues at this peaceful, lovely place filled with activities to engage all ages and virtually every interest. After all, that has always been Nawandyn Estate’s purpose for being.
