Tuscan house in idyllic scenic tranquility in hills between Lucca and sea WiFi
The house has all modern conveniences whilst maintaining its original Tuscan style and charm. There are 2 bedrooms with bathrooms en suite on the lower floor with access directly into the garden. Upstairs there is a very light spacious sitting/dining room with a characteristic Tuscan fireplace. The kitchen is well equipped with a lovely picture window looking out to the surrounding hills. Leading out of the kitchen is a terrace for al fresco eating. There is mosquito netting.
Podere Consani is a group of old houses on the top of a small hill - it lies in an idyllic setting amongst well-tended natural gardens,(lavender, roses, lemons and herbs) that lead into the adjacent olive groves, vineyard & woodland, in the hills between Lucca and the coast. The house shares a swimming pool with another property in the garden - this is also possible to be rented if you are a bigger group (See property 75096 Casa Cherubino - sleeps 6/7). The owners take great care to ensure guests are happy during their stay whilst respecting their privacy. They produce their own wine and olive oil.
Nature-lovers,painters and walkers alike cannot fail to enjoy the wonderful surroundings and lovely views and although Podere Consani is set in this oasis of peace, it is however only 15 minutes before the majestic walls of Lucca come into sight. There is the possibility to have cooking lessons or have a meal cooked for you in the house. It is also possible to have a variety of massages at the house or in the garden.
We can organize for you to rent bikes to tour the area or to be taken on a tour.

We had a wonderful stay! A very nice property and a good starting point for trips to the nearby cities or to hikes in nature! A very special thank you goes to Susan for the great recommendations!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at Podere Consani despite the weather not always being cooperative during our stay.
The location was very quiet and had beautiful views. It was only a 12 to15 min. drive to the centre of Lucca.
Susan was prompt at communication and was attentive to any needs we had on our visit.
We enjoyed being able to see the olives being harvested.
Grazie Susan!
A fantastic week at a great location, perfect for exploring the area around Lucca and super easy to get to from Pisa or Florence airports.
We loved the house and pool and Susan and Lelio were such brilliant hosts, full of useful info on where to go, what to see and where to eat……pretty much all you need!!
Highly recommended!!
Our stay was magical. I hate to overload a review with superlatives but it could be impossible not to. Susan was a spectacular host, sharing excellent recommendations for touring, dining, or just relaxing. The location was exactly what we had hoped. Isolated but short drives to everywhere. I would visit again and again.
We had an amazing stay at Podere Consani! It's such a beautiful and peaceful place. Susan is a wonderful host and our cottage was cosy and had lots of charme. Lucca and Pisa are close by and lots of other interesting places, as well. We'd definitely love to come back!
We really loved our visit. Susan is a super hostess and was very helpful in making our visit so much fun. She set up cooking lessons and a pasta dinner for us at the property. She gave us good advice for trips, and even gave us good parking advice. And so much more.
Brilliant location. 30mins or less to amazing beaches/coastline, lovely Lucca and many more places that we didn't have time to visit.
It's a charming property, and Sue is a wonderful host, with fantastic recommendations.
Had memorable week going to wineries, having cooking lesson (set up by our host Susan), going to a rare bookshop (set up by our cooking lesson instructor) and loving the scenery. What a place to relax, with lime growing outside your door and basil to put into your tuscan pasta sauce in the same pots. Close to Lucca and very comfortable place to stay!
The farm was an idyllic setting for a quiet week with our family. My kids loved the pool, the fruit trees and all the animals. My husband and I loved the tranquility of the property, which was the perfect antidote between our visits to cities. It's close enough to Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Cinque Terra and many beaches for easy day trips if you're hoping to explore.

Amazing Location, Hosts, and Property!
We stayed here for 7 days in September with our 18 month old daughter and had the best time! Susan and her family are incredible hosts and provided us with all the information we needed for a fabulous stay. The villa was charming, comfortable and the perfect home base for our adventures. The pool was gorgeous, we ate every night outside, and loved going to visit the horses and goats with our daughter.
We LOVED Lucca and would highly recommend this area if you are thinking of coming to Tuscany. It is close to Florence, Cinque Terre and the town of Lucca itself is lovely.
This was our first time to Tuscany and we definitely hope to be back. We loved our stay at Podere Consani!
The four of us including our Dog spent a great time on the Podere Consani:
the sweet, spacious cottage is situated in typical Tuscany countryside with all comfort you need, a fantastic pool, a very friendly host familiy and a lot to see in close proximity (Lucca, Viareggio, Pisa, Barga e.g. )
Perfect to create your own mixture of activity and recreation for an individual Italian experience.
Susan’s
recommendations were very informative and helpful.
Thanks a lot for everything. No doubt, we need to come back.
Our visit to Podere Consani was all that we had hoped for. Just taking the winding road up to the property will put you in a different world. Surrounded by grape vines and olive trees made you realize you are now in Tuscany. Our cottage offered everything we needed to relax and experience a peaceful retreat. The beautiful pool was just out our back door to give us another way to unwind. The location also provided a very convenient homebase to wander in any direction to investigate Lucca and the surrounding areas. Our hosts, Susan and Lelio were delightful. They were always available and had wonderful suggestions on places to visit and fabulous restaurants to discover the local cuisine. Do not hesitate to take a trip to this Tuscan retreat. Ciao!

Gorgeous holiday in Tuscany!
We had a fabulous time staying at La Capanna. It was our second time in Tuscany, having stayed in a hotel in Florence before. I have to say that this was so much better as we had all the benefits of the beautiful Tuscan countryside and we could visit all the towns and cities when we wanted. Our hosts were so welcoming and helpful without being on top of us which was perfect! The house was just right and felt like a real home rather than a rental with outlooks onto the beautifully maintained gardens and woodland. The views down the valley into Lucca were spectacular. We really enjoyed all the local produce, especially the wine and olive oil from our hosts.
Having explored everywhere in the daytime, it was lovely to come home to a log fire, it was all very cosy! We will be back. Thank you.
The accommodation 20 mins north of Lucca is in rural and tranquil setting with beautiful views of the surrounding hills.
The property itself is well equipped, with two well sized bedrooms and bathrooms. The upstairs provides direct access to the shared pool and the properties shaded seating area. The kitchen has everything you need for your stay.
It is a great location to unwind, relax and enjoy the sunshine or cook some food on the barbecue.
We also loved the dogs and cats visiting us throughout our stay and the whole property has a lovely friendly vibe.
The location allows for days trips in the Tuscan hills, local vineyards or to Lucca. From Lucca (as we did) you can get the train to Florence or elsewhere.
Susan was great throughout our arrival and guided us to the cottage when we arrived. She was also helpful with suggestions where to visit and where we might eat. She additionally very helpfully booked a table at the local excellent Italian restaurant where you get a proper Italian experience. We really enjoyed our time at Podere Consani and would highly recommend.
La Docé di Niente - the sweetness of doing nothing...
Our stay at Podere Consani was ideal. The home is well appointed and we cooked many meals and wanted for not. We were invited to the fresh herbs from the garden and enjoyed the home grown olive oil provided in a lovely welcome basket. Our host was absolutely incredible and available for any inquiries. Also, she had provided some provisions that we did not anticipate we would be needing (extra toilet paper, and laundry detergent). The property is clean and comfortable with plenty of room. We were able to have space and time alone as well as gathering for meals, coffee and wine. Very comfortable for 3-4 people. The drive up to the property is scenic and tranquil. It was a little tricky at first but then we sorted out the gps and it became super simple. The short trip down the hill to the market, or a little further into the lovely town of Lucca makes this location perfect to get away and enjoy simplicity or venture not too far out to experience the magic of the antiquity of Italy. We will come back again. We are so grateful for Susan, her family and, of course, the wonderful animals that greeted us upon arrival and every morning for coffee.

Tuscan charm with the benefit of great hosts
It’s been a busy busy year so we were looking forward to a break, and although we had a good idea of the area, nothing prepared us for Podere Consani. It overlooks hills and vales, surrounded by olive trees, and the cottage was enclosed in a wonderful sensory experience. Susan welcomed us warmly and after settling in was on hand to outline places we might like to explore. We were also warmly welcomed by her dogs, and they soon settled into our daily lives. We loved Luca, there was something new to discover each time we popped in either for breakfast or lunch. It is also a handy place to visit Pisa and Florence by train from. Another little hill town to explore is Bragga with its narrow streets and stunning views.
When not out and about we enjoyed the space and tranquility of the cottage, it was well laid out, the kitchen area leading out to a terrace.and included the use of a
pool. Susan was available if we had any questions about our accommodation but the cottage had everything we needed. We would most definitely recommend Podere Consani to anyone who is looking for charm, with views, the opportunity to learn more about Tuscany within a family setting. Thank you so much we will be looking forward to our next visit.
We stayed off season (November) and can confirm, that the stay was pleasant even though we had a little child (2,5yo) and were concerned if the heating in the house would be sufficient. The owner set the heating sufficiently and we had a pleasant stay. The house and the whole property is magical and we recommend visit there. Note that it's an old house and although it's well maintained it happens that some equipment fails. We had a problem with toilet flushing and washing machine, but each issue was swiftly and proactively fixed by the owner and caused no issue to us, I very value this professional and client oriented approach. I would like to take opportunity to apologize the owner for accidentally braking the washing machine door handle and thank for the quick fix and no hassle. I should also note that we booked the property not only off season but also only one night prior to the arrival leaving the owner no time for preparation when I assume not much guests would be expected - even on such short notice everything was just perfect. We even got to swim in the pool by the late November :-) Thank you Susan.
We thank our lucky stars that we decided to stay at Podere Consani.
We hoped that it would be quietly rural, pleasant and scenic, and it was all these things but so much more.
Our hostess, Suzy, was immensely kind and helpful. She and her husband have a large family and friends who give the place a lot of life but manage to be completely unobtrusive. The estate is large, including a big swimming pool, an equestrian ring, the main house and two smaller houses that serve as the guest cottages. We were in the smaller one and it was more than amply big, lovely, comfortable and filled with the kitchen utensils and other items we needed to make for an easy stay.
We could have stayed by the pool, swimming and drinking in the beauty, but fortunately Suzy, gave us wonderful advice about day trips which made our stay more interesting. Listen to her when she advises you to go to the Cinque Terre, you won't be sorry! In fact, listen to her ideas on all fronts. And take a bathing suit! Suzy is originally English but has lived in Italy with her family for a long time and really knows what's worth seeing and doing.
We will remember this welcoming and beautiful place and have pictures in our minds of eating out on the porch, or viewing the lights of Lucca from the vinyard. Thank you, Suzy and family!

Jewel of Tuscany
We spent an ideal week at Podere Consani in July. Our family of four (parents + 12 and 14 year old boys) loved the mountain beauty of this lovely home. Podere Consani sits just 20 minutes outside the walls of Lucca and enjoys all the location benefits of Lucca plus the tranquil preserve of a mountain villa. [Rick Steves describes the well preserved medieval city of Lucca as the perfect place to center a Tuscan vacation as it is an easy trip to cities such as Pisa, Florence, Sienna, Vinci and the Italian beaches.]
Hardly a “barn” the cottage we stayed in was perfect for our family with two bedrooms (each with its own full bath), a well equipped kitchen, and a living room / dining room. We cooked many of our meals at the cottage but also enjoyed local restaurants. The cottage sits literally just steps from the cool alpine swimming pool and is nestled into the gorgeous gardens of the estate. My sons brought their soccer ball with them and had plenty of space to kick it around. For animal lovers there are approximately 15 horses and several goats on the property. [Susan’s daughter is a world-class equestrian who rides with the Italian National Team!]
Our host, Susan, helped us with directions and suggestions for sights and great restaurants. When she made reservations for us, we found that the restaurants treated us with extra care and hospitality – clearly in respect to their friendship with Susan. Every recommendation was great. Susan and her family were generous in their kindness and conversation but never intruded on our privacy or relaxation.
In addition to visiting Vinci, Pisa and Lucca, we enjoyed a short trip (walk) to OliveArt where a wonderful Italian craftsman turns gnarled olive wood into treasured pieces with unbelievable grain and patterns.
We loved our stay in Podere Consani and all the great locations around it. However, despite the fantastic sights in and around Lucca, more than anything, we cherished relaxing by the pool, sipping succulent local red wines and enjoying the breath-taking mountain views. If you want a hot, crowded, city house, look elsewhere. However, if you want a relaxing and beautiful mountain villa removed from the dust and hubbub of the City you should look closely at Podere Consani. We are already planning our return trip.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Beeby
I, Susan, came out to Italy in 1969 and instantly fell in love with it all - the hills, the historic cities, the food and the people. Having lived here ever since, my views haven't changed. I married my husband Lelio and a few years later we bought Podere Consani and gradually restored it, making it the beautiful place it is today.
Why they chose this property
We were really lucky to find this beautiful property - 3 very old stone buildings on the top of a hill surrounded by flat land and with wonderful uninterrupted panoramic views - 360°. It is well known in the area due to the fact that it is quite unusual to find a property in the hills with so much flat land around it.
What makes this property unique
The views and the surrounding land are what convinced us to choose Podere Consani. My husband specializes in restoring old properties and this was such a wonderful place to restore - a sympathetic restoration maintaining its historical integrity.
