Enjoy a truly unique lodging experience in this relocated and resurrected c. 1820 log house and c. 1840 addition. Moved from Coshocton County, Ohio to our location in Tuscarawas County, the main structure recreates a pioneer atmosphere with authentic period furnishings and a romantic cooking fireplace. The adaptive reuse of the timber frame addition combines historic and contemporary aesthetics with modern conveniences.

Whatever your style or preference, we aim to make your stay at our cabin a truly unique and aesthetically pleasing experience.

Located within the heart of Amish country, just 9 miles from Sugarcreek, Ohio and 19 miles from Berlin, Ohio our 300-acre farm and cabin offers convenience to great area attractions, but most of all prized, private tranquility and seclusion. Come, get away to a different era or relax with modern amenities. Sit in the log house and feel what it may have been like to live on the Ohio frontier. Imagine the workings of an authentically reproduced stone cooking fireplace but use the well-equipped up-to-date kitchen. Experience sleeping on an authentic rope bed or spread out on a contemporary queen-sized mattress. We offer a great location to read, write, make art, hike, observe nature or just relax.

Whether you are looking for a getaway by yourself, as a couple or with your entire family, we can accommodate you. The air-conditioned log house provides sleeping arrangements for up to six people. The main room has a full-sized rope bed, and the second-floor bedroom contains a queen-sized bed. A fold down futon couch is located in the sleeping loft of the addition.

The timber frame addition has a fully equipped eat-in kitchen with solid wood counter tops, sitting area with comfortable reading chairs, a satellite TV with DVD player and a private bathroom with great corner shower. There is also a washer and dryer for your convenience.

The base price listed is for two people to make the cabin reasonable for couples. Additional fees apply for larger groups beyond two people. We do not charge any additional fees for cleaning or use of other outdoor recreational features of our property. Just What We Needed

I absolutely love this property. The cabin is unbelievable! So neat to stay in such a historic little nook. I loved the simple and accurate decor. The fresh eggs, muffins, fruit and snacks were such a nice little bonus. Highly recommend staying here and hope to be back myself!

Historical Getaway in Natural Surroundings

We enjoyed a rustic, frontier ambience enriched by modern comforts. The friendly hosts check in upon arrival and departure and offer generous snack and breakfast items. We brought meals to prepare and also ventured out to the nearby Amish towns. We saw lots of wildlife outside our window as well as on our walks! Love that it can be such an all- inclusive location- lake, playground, baseball field - in summer! We so appreciated what a great memory we made.

Perfect Getaway Spot

What a great place. Fell in love with the cabin the moment we pulled up. When we opened the door, it felt like we were walking into Charles & Caroline Ingall's home on "Little House on the Prairie". Hosts were so gracious. They provided eggs, milk, juice, fresh fruit, cereal, and assorted chips. Would love to come back again and explore the property. We were with friends and had plans to spend the day in the Amish Country. Highly recommend this property! If you love rustic, but with modern conveniences, this is the place for you!

February in Tuscarawas county

The property was exactly as promised. The weather was cold, (down to 9 degrees F), but the combination of the furnace and the fireplace made the entire house warm and cozy. the cabin is a truly beautiful balance between restoration and modernization. We walked and hiked in the surrounding woods all three days. A wonderful experience. We look forward to returning.

Our Now Favorite Place to Stay

We can not say enough good things about this beautiful historic log home. It sits on acres of quiet scenic nature where you can walk trails thru the hilly woods or walk to their reflective lake and just be in peacefulness every where you go. The owners have taken great care in maintaining their property and decorating the home with unique interesting pieces. You will also see some of the owners artwork which add an interesting touch. The owners are also wonderful hosts. We received a call welcoming us once we arrived and another when leaving to thank us for staying. Fresh fruit, eggs, muffins, juice, milk and snacks were also provided for our stay. The owners have taken great care in providing a relaxing, clean & beautiful place to stay for their guests and it is obvious a labor of love. The log home is also only 20 to 25 minutes from all the tourist spots and very easy to get to. A few things to know is the wifi is very slow, which was not an issue for us because we wanted to disconnect from the world. Also you may lose cell connection 5 min before arriving so screen shot your directions. We will definitely love to stay here again.

This is a beautiful stone house set in the hills. The surroundings Include grassy hills and two lakes. There is a kayak, a canoe and a rowboat for use on the lake. The house is comfortable and cozy. You need to be able to climb stairs to reach the loft and bedroom on the second floor. There is central air. There are two porches to enjoy listening to the birds and to nature. The only sound that I heard at night was the wind and sometimes a walnut dropping on the roof. I had a Very quiet and peaceful stay.

A beautiful place to spend a peaceful weekend! After a busy summer, we wanted somewhere nice and peaceful to relax for our 30th anniversary and this absolutely fit the bill. While the cabin itself is historic, it is fully updated inside with air conditioning to escape the hot weather. The grounds nearby are well maintained and the artwork in the cabin and around the property is beautiful and thought provoking!

Amazing

Amazing cabin and area to stay. The lake on the farm is relaxing and they provided paddle boats for those who stay. The kids loved searching the cabin for the little figurines hidden throughout the cabin and the muffins and cereal provided for breakfast. The upstairs is warm during the summertime but there is a fan that is provided to help cool it off. Caution for those with asthma as on the hot day the smoke smell from past fireplace use was very strong in the downstairs bedroom. Once there was cooler weather the smell went away. Definitely screenshot the directions the owner provides for driving to the cabin. Cell service is lost when you get close to the cabin and follow them. Also the gps doesn’t take you to the correct location; it takes you down the road a little bit to a different location.

About the host

Hosted by Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer

Host profile image
Doug McGlumphy and Jennifer Greer have been married for over 30 years and enjoy working and developing our family farm. Doug works as an artist and educator while Jennifer works as an academic advisor. Both enjoy raising their two sons and passing on the property's history to the next generation.

Why they chose this property

Our cabin is located on 300 acres of rolling farmland in the Stucky Valley, of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Originally settled in the 1830's by the Moomaw family, the farm was purchased in 1903 by Doug's great-grandparents, German farmers, Jacob and Emma Hisrich. It has remained in our family for over 110 years.

The farm subsequently passed down to Doug's grandparents, Laura and Vernon Hisrich who lived, raised a family and farmed the property for many decades. After their deaths the main house, outbuildings and land remained underutilized for many years and fell into decline until we purchased them, along with Doug's parents, Ed and Pat (Hisrich) McGlumphy in 1997.

In addition to the built environment, the farm consists of approximately 50% tillable land and 50% woods. In an effort to preserve the property as farmland, a local farmer uses the fields to plant crops for his dairy farm. The remainder acts as a bird sanctuary, as well as habitat for local wildlife.

We enjoy our farm and its family history and invite you to come and enjoy its peacefulness and tranquility with us. It is a labor of love and continues to be an ever-evolving endeavor. There is always something new to look at with each subsequent visit as we always have a new project in the works.

What makes this property unique

The property also includes an 1870s farmhouse (VRBO 2131667) and a contemporary log house (VRBO 2213954) available for rental through VRBO. If rented together all houses offer a great opportunity for extended family or friends to vacation with each other while maintaining social distancing but enjoying the great outdoors.

The cabin and rural setting offers a truly unique experience for couples, families or friends to get away and relax. We even have a baseball field, hiking trails and an art gallery right outside your front door. Come and enjoy!
