About this property
Casteel Cottage · Cozy Tennessee Retreat w/ Firepit near Ocoee River
Welcome to Casteel Cottage, your cozy Tennessee retreat just 9 minutes from downtown Cleveland and 15 minutes from Parksville Lake and the Ocoee River. Whether you’re visiting for outdoor adventures, a romantic weekend, or a family getaway, this charming one-bedroom cottage offers the perfect mix of comfort and convenience.
Inside, you’ll find a bright open layout with a comfortable living room, a futon for extra guests, and a Smart TV for easy streaming. The sunroom—separated by glass French doors—features a twin trundle bed and a cozy view of the fenced backyard and pool area. The bedroom includes a king-sized bed and calming décor designed to help you unwind after a day of hiking, rafting, or exploring the nearby Cherokee National Forest.
Step outside to enjoy the private back deck, complete with rocking chairs and a gas grill. Spend your evenings by the firepit, stargazing under the Tennessee sky or sipping a drink while listening to the crickets. The pool area is open May through September, and the large fenced-in yard is perfect for lounging or playing outdoor games.
Guests have private parking under a covered awning, making it easy to unload gear or store a small boat or kayaks. The main house sits nearby on the property, but all guest areas—including the cottage, deck, pool, and firepit—are completely private for your stay.
Casteel Cottage is ideal for small families, couples, or anyone looking for a quiet retreat close to nature yet minutes from great dining, shopping, and local attractions. Come relax, recharge, and make yourself at home.
Please note that there is a small step down into both the bedroom and the sunroom. The transitions are subtle but worth mentioning for anyone who may have mobility concerns. We also have two friendly outdoor rescue cats who may stop by to say hello. They’re sweet and love attention, but please don’t allow them inside the cottage.

About the host
Hosted by Melanie Lawson
Hello, my name is Melanie, your host at Casteel Cottage.
I was born and raised right here in Cleveland, Tennessee, and my roots run deep in this community. I have a wonderful family which includes my loving parents, an older brother and sister, two step kids I helped raise, and a set of adopted twins who’ve blessed my life in every way. These days, I’m also a proud grandmother, and I share this adventure with my amazing boyfriend, Steve, your co-host. He’s incredibly supportive, and together we love creating a peaceful space where guests can relax and feel at home.
My heart has always been in missions and service. Each year I travel to Guatemala with my church to help provide medical care, build homes, and deliver food bags to villages, but most importantly tell others about Jesus. Closer to home, I support a local women’s shelter that helps women escape abusive situations and rebuild their lives after hardship.
And of course, I’m an animal lover through and through. I’ve spent over 30 years rescuing and caring for animals, some of whom now enjoy a safe and happy life here on the property. When you stay at Casteel Cottage, a portion of your visit goes directly toward supporting local outreach and rescue efforts, something that means the world to us.
Thank you for choosing to stay here. Your visit helps us continue giving back, one guest (and one furry friend) at a time.

Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this spot because it perfectly balances peace and convenience. Casteel Cottage sits in a pocket of countryside where you can unwind, watch the sun set over the trees, and still be just 9 minutes from downtown Cleveland and 15 minutes from Parksville Lake and the Ocoee River. It’s a place where mornings start with birdsong instead of traffic and nights end with the sound of crickets under a wide Tennessee sky.
The property gives us the space to enjoy the outdoors while being part of a friendly, safe community. Our cottage sits on a fenced area beside our main home, giving guests complete privacy while still feeling secure and close to everything. We love that it’s close enough to run into town for dinner, but far enough away that you can truly disconnect and breathe.
We also have a soft spot for animals, and this location lets us give a good home to our rescues. Two outdoor dogs live happily on our side of the fence. They’re gentle old souls who enjoy greeting guests through the gate. Many visitors lean over to give them a quick pat on the head. Two outdoor cats wander freely, often stopping by to say hello before finding a sunny spot for a nap. They’re part of what makes this property feel alive, warm, and welcoming.
Guests often tell us one of their favorite things to do is sit on the back porch in the rocking chairs, sipping coffee and watching the goats and chickens in the nearby red barn pasture. The animals are fenced in separately but close enough to enjoy from the deck, adding to the peaceful, homegrown charm of the property.
For us, this neighborhood isn’t just where we live, it’s a place that captures the heart of Tennessee: peaceful, kind, and full of simple joys. We hope every guest leaves feeling a little more rested, connected, and at home than when they arrived.
