About this property
Pioneer Cabin at Lion Mountain Retreat on 10 Acres Surrounded by Public Land
The North Pioneer Cabin at Lions Mountain Retreat sits on the last stretch of private land along a country road leading to Miners Mountain. Surrounded by thousands of acres of public land, the possibilities for adventure are limitless-right from your doorstep.
With access to hundreds of miles of off-road trails, you can explore deep into this magical landscape bordering Capitol Reef National Park. From sweeping red rock vistas to lake filled, aspen-covered slopes of Boulder Mountain, this place offers the best of both worlds.
The Property:
Want a place that has its own private cabin, but still places to gather together? This is it! I have two identical cabins on the 10 acre property. These were made with huge ponderosa pines close by. There is a bathhouse that has seperate entrances for each cabin, so it will be used only by your party, about 30 yards from each cabin. There is also a common area in the front of the bathhouse with a sink, drying rack, and washer and dryer. The bathtubs are 6' long and 32' deep with my custom photographs of waterfalls to enjoy as you soak or shower. Heated rooms, flush toilets and luxury showers, provide comfort after a long day of ruffing it in the nearby wilderness.
The North cabin has a queen bed, and a loft with a queen size pad. You must bring a sleeping bag, pillow, or blankets for the loft. Each cabin has a coffee maker, small cooking oven, silverware, plates, bowls, cups, mini fridge, cold and hot water dispenser. Temperature is controlled by a mini split unit that provides heat and air. This listing is for the North Cabin with the queen bed.
The South cabin has a bunk bed, and a single bed, along with a queen size pad in the loft area. Here is the link to the South Cabin: https://www.vrbo.com/supply/home?propertyId=122178667. The price listed is for each cabin, and includes the use of the bath house and pavilion.
There is a lovely covered pavillion to the East with a raised fire pit, that has a blackstone propane cooking grill and a water tap. This is where the food would be prepared and enjoyed.
Miles and miles of off roads right from the property make this a very unique and incredible home base for exploring the wonders that sit before you. The ATV slick rock trail and sulphur creek trails are just down the road. Other roads criss cross all over miners mountain road where you can explore for days. This is also the closest property to access beautiful boulder mountain with all its lakes and aspen hillsides where many more ATV trails take you deep into the heart of the mountains where elk, deer, mountain lion, and bear roam. Great fishing up here! Plenty of parking for your ATV and such with a drive through driveway.
The property is about 10 miles to the actual Capitol Reef National Park Sign. But I never thought a national park designation makes it more unique and special. It's the goods on the outskirts where people dont go that's exciting to me, and boy...does this place have those! Wander about and find your own hidden treasures where few have ventured before. This is where the "Wild" is still in "Wilderness".
Ther property is on a private well. I drink it, but you can decide if you would rather bring bottled water.
Guest Access:
You can use the whole 10 acres and all the amenities. If only booking one cabin you will only use one side of the bath house.
Interaction with guest:
I'll usually be available by phone or text message. I dont meet guest at the place, but available.
Other Details
This place is catered to parties or groups that may want to be together, but still have their own place. Inquire about group stays. It’s perfect when you want to be together some of the time, but still have your own space:) .
Also a great place for retreats and workshops. Plenty of space on the property to spread out for extracurricular activities.
I also have a very nice new camper trailer on the premises with its own washroom and cooking stove. It can sleep 2 in the main bed, then another in the loft, and 3 more if you are not too tall. Could be great for a family with young kids. Inquire for details and arrangements.

About the host
Hosted by willie holdman
I've lived in Utah all my life. I've been a professional nature landscape photographer for over 40 years. By far this area is the most incredible place for photography with its contrasting red rock and mountains. I've been all over this region and know it well. I don't do trails, but "Routes". I've published books on Utah, and my work is collected by thousands. See it here www.willieholdman.com
