Sattva House: Sea Ranch escape with Ocean views, perfect for a relaxing getaway

Nestled between the coast highway and the sea, Sattva House is a modern, split-level retreat with two king suites, each with its own bath. The space
Designed and built by Dan Doyle, Sattva House is a contemporary 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath barn with all the touches of a classic mid-century Sea Ranch house, including exposed beams, Heath tile, George Nelson light fixtures, huge ocean-facing windows, vaulted paneled ceilings, and vertical grain Douglas Fir cabinets, flooring and stairs. It is a short walk to Shell Beach, the Seal Sanctuary, and The Sea Ranch’s only children’s playground. We are ideally located in Central Sea Ranch - close to the best sights and a short 5 min drive from Gualala for anything you might need.

This modern, solar-powered home has many beautiful spaces all with ocean and meadow views, and is the perfect gathering place for families and friends. Upon entry, enjoy a spacious open plan design showcasing the great room with massive timber beams and stone tile flooring throughout the living room/dining room/kitchen areas. The house is furnished with a mix of lovely vintage MCM and generous contemporary furniture so you can ease right into Sea Ranch living. The living room is anchored by a gorgeous cast-iron Jotul propane stove. A spacious sectional in the corner window provides the perfect place to relax and observe the changes in the ocean waves through the course of the day.

The well-appointed chef’s kitchen features top of the range appliances and a carefully curated and maintained selection of kitchen tools for all your cooking/baking needs. Coffee prep options abound: moka pot, pour over, French press, and drip machines, along with a burr grinder. The cupboards contain pantry staples, including coffee, tea, salt, pepper, olive oil, vinegar, and a good selection of spices. If there is something you think should be there, let us know and we will stock it! Enjoy meals together at the beautiful 6-person Kipp Stewart dining table or on the adjacent outdoor deck, which features a Polywood table and propane grill.

The two king master suites are each on their own floor and feature private baths and sitting/work areas. The lower bedroom has a wonderful window bench, while the upper bedroom enjoys vaulted paneled ceilings. Both have spectacular ocean and meadow views.

For the times when you’re not taking in ocean vistas, gazing up at the incredible night sky, or wandering down the bluff trail, the upstairs sunroom/family room features a super comfy Restoration Hardware sofa and Samsung smart TV - an ideal place to catch up on your streaming subscription programming. The downstairs nook features a twin daybed and looks out onto a lovely private patio with teak armchairs and an outdoor shower - perfect for hosing off after a walk to the beach.

The house also has a Sonos system, fiberoptic 1GB internet with WiFi, and plentiful high-speed device chargers to address all your technology needs. A brand new solar PV array and backup battery system means you will never worry about power outages.

Consistent with The Sea Ranch’s respect for nature, Sattva House strives to use products that are kind to humans, animals, and the planet. All bed and bath linens are Oeko-Tex certified and hypoallergenic, and all bath and soap products are from companies with a commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

As our guests, you will have access to The Sea Ranch’s 50 miles of private trails, beaches and three recreation centers with pools, saunas, and tennis and pickleball courts.

This is a place where we strive to ‘live lightly on the land’, awaken our sense of wonder in the tide pools and redwood forests, and soak in the beauty of this carefully tended community built along a spectacular stretch of California coastline.

Please exercise caution when using the stairs between the great room and bedroom levels.

The Mendonoma Coast has a thriving arts community, and you’ll find pieces by local photographer Arun Patel in Sattva House. Note that some of the art and furniture might be placed in different rooms from the photos.

In addition to a 'Guest Service Fee' there will be a 12% Transient Occupancy Tax—this is collected for all short-term rentals and sent directly to Sonoma County.

The entire house is available for guests except one bedroom closet and two cabinets in the kitchen (all marked and locked), and the outdoor shed.

Other things to note
We manage the house ourselves — you’ll be working directly with us and with carefully chosen local caretakers, not a property management company. Our space is a true home, thoughtfully curated with personal touches and attention to detail, to make it a serene experience in every way.
