About this property
A Nordic-Inspired Retreat (Adults Only)
Welcome to Black Salt. From your vantage point on the hill, you will see the harbour in Ritcey Cove, known as one of North America’s safest natural harbours. The nearby beaches, such as Hirtle’s, Kingsburg, Oxner’s, and more, offer fine sand, rugged cliffs, and calm bays.
Our first completed cabin includes:
Full privacy and seclusion
A hot tub and seasonal outdoor shower for an immersive experience
Maple accent walls and black steel details abound
A lighted pond and fountain at your doorstep
We are building nine individual cabins, each around 1,200 square feet, with lofted spaces and full glass facades created with cathedral-style windows designed to bring the outdoors in. The design draws from Nordic minimalism: clean, timeless, and filled with natural light, while honoring the maritime heritage of Riverport.

Further up the hill, each cabin is bordered by German artisan-built stone walls. Among them stands the Pièce de résistance, the Black Crow Lodge, a remarkable log cabin, with origins in Europe, carefully dismantled and rebuilt here in Riverport. Traditional German craftsmen were flown in to ensure that every log was reassembled exactly as intended, preserving its original authenticity and structure.
A three-bedroom cabin, an original design, sits just above The Black Crow Lodge. It features a spacious interior, its own wood-burning stove, and a catwalk overlooking the landscape. Every cabin includes a washer and dryer for added comfort. Four more cabins are underway farther up the hill and are scheduled to open next spring.
Our vision is rooted in Riverport itself.
This historic coastal community has long been known for its shipbuilding heritage, working wharves, winding roads, and quintessential maritime charm. The village moves at a rhythm that feels both grounded and inspiring, offering something for everyone, from lively local events to quiet hidden beaches.
Originally from Cape Breton, the owners of Black Salt Retreat now call Riverport home and have become part of its close-knit community. Andre and Frances are proud to share this place with guests, always eager to recommend their favorite nearby spots and connect visitors not only to the landscape but also to the people who make Riverport so special.
