Stunning views! South Shore 4BR cottage - Walk to Hirtle's Beach
This 4 bedroom, 2 bath cottage is located on the South Shore in desirable Upper Kingsburg. Just under 1.5 hours from the Halifax airport, the cottage is also a short drive from Lunenburg and Mahone Bay and offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and Romkey pond. Well-equipped, yet simple, the home has 4 bedrooms on the second floor (2 queens, 1 double, 1 full). One of the rooms is smaller than the others and is best suited for children or single travelers. Please note that the stairs are steep and one of the queen mattresses is quite firm. There is a full bathroom on the second floor and a 1/2 bath on the first. Walk or drive to Hirtle's beach and the spectacular Gaff Point Trail and rinse off in the outdoor shower after a day out exploring. Whale watching, fishing, golf and great restaurants are all just a short drive away. The cottage has two sitting areas on the first floor and a separate den. There are two smart TVs on the main floor for steaming Netflix or your favorite apps, one in the living room and one in the den and wifi throughout. There is nothing fancy about the cottage, but we hope you feel as comfortable and at home here as we do. It's a special setting from which to explore Nova Scotia, or just spend the days relaxing with the views at home or on the beach.
Occupancy is capped at 6 people, however we also own a small studio cottage with a sleeping loft that is across the lane which may be rented separately, or in conjunction with the main house. If you are traveling with extended family or friends and are interested in renting the studio as well please inquire about rates.

2nd stay at this home and its truly wonderful. If you are looking for relaxation and comfort, I highly recommend staying. We were a group of six and there was plenty of space and then some. The views are amazing and the walk to the beach 10 to 15 minutes depending.

Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us again! We’re thrilled to hear that your second visit was just as enjoyable and relaxing and we hope to welcome you back for a third stay in the future!
A spacious property with a great view and everything you need. Gorgeous views and a wonderful beach for walking and hiking a short walk away. Very quiet. Kingsburg was a little cooler than spots further inland.

Thanks for staying with us and for taking the time to leave a review.
As I mentioned when you booked, we don’t typically offer shorter stays since quick turnarounds can be a challenge for our cleaner, but we were happy to make an exception in this case and the house was professionally cleaned before your arrival.
I also wanted to clarify that all of the mattresses — except the one in the smallest bedroom — are brand new, with two purchased just a few weeks ago (July 2025). That said, we understand that mattress comfort is personal, and I’m sorry the new ones didn’t meet your expectations.
We appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear you enjoyed the rest of your time in Upper Kingsburg.
It was wonderful to be so immersed in ocean during our stay. Amazing views and seamless beautiful transitions to Hirtles beach gave us the connection that we were hoping for. We all enjoyed the great walks, swimming, surfing, and play. The house is a perfect combination of character and comfort! So beautiful!
Every night I fell asleep to the sounds of waves on the shore! Views were gorgeous and Hirtle Beach is wonderful to explore. The stairs up to the bedrooms were a challenge for my father-in-law who uses a walker but plenty to do once he made it down.
The property was a perfect place to unwind and relax with the sound of crashing waves in the distance. Rolling hills, horse meadows, and ocean views. Who could ask for more? The location was amazing and the house had everything we needed. The beach is a seven minute walk from the house and our kids just loved riding the waves. We're looking forward to staying here again next summer!
What a gorgeous view and property! Perfect setting for a family get together and especially good for those who love the ocean. Nearby path to Hirtle’s Beach was. Big hit and avoided the crowds at the beach parking lot. House was well furnished with everything we needed for our stay. Communications with the owner top notch. Thank you Catriona!
We stayed at Cat’s beautiful house overlooking Hirtle Beach for two weeks of the most perfectly peaceful holiday away from busy the traffic jams of Toronto. The house was much larger than we imagined it would be. Kitchen was perfect with everything you can imagine requiring for cooking at home. Lots of places just sit and read, especially the porch facing out to the pond and the beach. The magnificent horse next door got out a few times and came to our porch to enjoy me feeding her some carrots. This house was beyond our expectations.
Kingsburg older farm style house with marvellous views!
House is in one of the most prime locations in Kingsburg with exceptional views. Everything was very neat, and had been cleaned. Owner was super sweet and accommodating to last minute needs. Only small criticisms would be that furniture is super dated, the beds could be a bit more comfortable, and for off summer visits, there is no fireplace. But none of this lessened the joy of the location and proximity to Hirtles beach. There is also central AC downstairs, which we did not need as the cross vent on the hillside was excellent with windows open.
Having coffee on the front porch looking at the sea, and at the horses, was a specific joy. We would certainly stay again.
Can't beat the location...Hirtle's Beach was outstanding to walk on, unfortunately the Gaff Point trail was closed. Lunenburg and the LeHave bakery (via the ferry) are close by however, for shopping and entertainment. From the front porch Adirondack chairs, the view is as pictured (would be nice though if a couple of electricity poles disappeared). Kitchen mainly new and the fridge is more than adequate, also there's a substantial dining table, otherwise it's an old farmhouse and the furniture is eclectic. The two TV's require Roku/Netflix passwords. Staircase to the bedrooms is steep. The 4 bedrooms are not equally comfortable due to the angle of the roof. Book the Bluenose 2 well in advance if you want to take the 2 hour cruise.
From the thoughtful messages prior to our arrival and throughout our whole stay, Cat could not have been more attentive in helping us to plan our first visit to the area and ensuring that we had a wonderful time. The house is spacious, filled with beautiful art and books, was immaculately clean, with an excellently equipped and supplied kitchen, a comfortable deck with lovely views, and a Netflix-friendly TV. We loved the nearby Rose Bay store and LaHave bakery, both offering surprisingly good meals as well as supplies, and beautiful Hirtle’s beach. And even when we woke to a power outage in the area, Cat and her mother Carole did everything they could to ensure that we got accurate information and were as minimally inconvenienced as possible. We have rented many houses in many locations, but this was surely one of the best and we can’t wait to return!
Pictures just don’t capture the ambiance of this wonderful property! Perched perfectly on a hilly side with flowing pastures over looking the ocean from point blank rang, and the overview of a well maintained and entertaining horse farm to boot ( we adore horses)
The home itself provides all the coziness of a country farmstead with all the charm of old yet has all modern amenities. Can’t rave enough of the nearby surroundings and picturesque views. Loved exploring nearby Hirtle beach and exploring the nearby hills and history! Owner Catriona was awesome and worked with us to ensure our safety leading into hurricane Fiona.
Would highly recommend for family or friend stay. We absolutely loved this place.would love to return.Oh one more great attraction was the local German general store, we ate there every day , again Awesome!
Thanks

Two enjoyable weeks spent with family at this charming and spacious property. Clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view and short walk to Hirtle's beach. Conveniently close to the delightful Rose Bay General Store.
We loved the location and the house has plenty of room and everything you need. We originally booked it as wanted space for our family of four close to Lunenberg as we had vacation plans there. On arrival we met three different neighbors who were more than kind and welcoming. They gave us tips and urged us to take the private path down to the beach. Beach experience wasn't on our list at all, but so glad we did. The beach is amazing. We changed plans for one day of our stay just to do the beach with the kids and take a long hike along up the trail to have lunch on the rocks. Great host and great communication.
We had one of the best vacations ever in beautiful Kingsburg. The house was all we hoped it would be -- charming, spacious, well cared for and with the loveliest view of Hirtles beach and with the beach just a short walk away.
