Charming Mid-Century Shoreline Cottage; a Birder's Paradise

Experience the serene beauty of Guilford at our charming 3-bedroom cottage in the picturesque Mulberry Point area. It's just a two-minute walk from the shoreline, which has a free public beach with parking—and it's dog-friendly. It's a perfect retreat for nature lovers and beachgoers, offering both the tranquility of nature and the convenience of nearby attractions and amenities.

Scenic Views and Natural Surroundings
Our cottage features a large raised deck off the kitchen, providing beautiful views of a vibrant salt marsh and glimpses of the Long Island Sound during the fall and winter seasons. The deck is a birdwatcher's paradise, with frequent sightings of ospreys, cardinals, blue jays, hawks, playful chipmunks, bunnies, deer, opossums and other wildlife. A quiet, wooded trail adjacent to the house offers peaceful walks to the Tuttle's Point, Mulberry Point, and Indian Cove areas.

Local Attractions and Convenience
It's a 15-minute scenic walk or a 5-minute drive to Chaffinch Island Park, a local gem where you can relax by the water or enjoy a barbecue. Down the road is a trailhead to Westwoods for hiking; easy access to explore 39 miles of hiking trails. We are conveniently located just one mile from the historic Guilford Green, the Guilford Library, and various shops and restaurants. Additional nearby attractions include Branford, with its ferry service to the Thimble Islands, Stony Creek Brewery, galleries, seafood, local theater, and other dining options. We're 15 minutes to Madison, Hammonasset Beach, Chatfield Hollow State Park, and numerous hiking, kayaking, swimming, and dining spots.

Comfortable and Well-Appointed Accommodations
The mid-century house accommodates up to four guests across three bedrooms: one with a full/queen bed and half-bath, a second queen bedroom with desk, and a third with a single bed., desk, and Smart TV. Each bedroom has large closets, 100% cotton linens, duvets, and comfortable bedding. The main bathroom includes both a shower and a tub. Our sunlit living room boasts a rose granite wood-burning fireplace, an Eames lounge chair, fast 5G WiFi, Xfinity cable package, and an Amazon Echo for music. The kitchen is fully equipped with all necessary cooking essentials, but please note there is no dishwasher. Laundry facilities are conveniently located on the main floor. We have a charcoal grill and electric weber, off the side of the deck.

The 700 sq. foot walkout basement offers a lightly furnished space with a 43" Smart TV, a bar, and access to an outdoor patio.

Travel and Accessibility
Our location is only a mile from Guilford Green and a minute’s drive to the Shoreline East train station, with connections to New Haven, New York City, and Boston. We welcome one well-behaved dog, making our cottage a great choice for pet owners.

Guilford home
Really loved this place! Perfect location, close to everything. Really enjoyed driving Route 1 and showing my wife and mother-in-law the shoreline towns. Lobster Landing did not disappoint, and having Bishops Orchard so close was perfect. Amy was so easy and professional to work with. Loved it!

About the host

Hosted by Amy

Host profile image
I'm a medical and science writer and a native New Yorker who recently discovered the beauty of the Connecticut shoreline. I love being out in the fresh air, birdwatching, hiking, kayaking, exploring the landscape, beaches, food, arts, nature, and architecture - without the crowds. I hope you'll enjoy exploring the area as much as I do.

Why they chose this property

When I visited a friend in her new home, I was struck by the area's rocky landscape, proximity to the water and hiking trails, charming town and small-town feel, and overall natural beauty.

What makes this property unique

Our humble property is a stone's throw from the LI Sound, with its beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and tranquility. The small public beach down the road is a hidden gem; there are shells galore, and families of ducks, osprey, seagulls, egrets, and butterflies. You can swim, kayak, fish, and clam (with a license), or walk for miles near or around the water. The property runs along a salt marsh, which attracts all types of birds, from finches, robins, cardinals, and warblers to woodpeckers and glorious red-tailed hawks. Sitting on the raised deck is a bird lover's paradise. Guilford and Branford have dozens of miles of hiking trails. The area is comparable to Long Island's East End and North Fork but without the crowds. Our home is just a short walk to the beach, several beautiful parks, and a short drive to the Guilford Green, shops, restaurants, hiking trails, and wineries. There's music, great food, kayaking, arts, farms, theater, film - a little bit of everything. If you like a bit more culture, you can drive 16 miles or hop on the Shoreline East train to New Haven. Guilford is two hours to NYC or Boston and one hour to the ocean in Rhode Island.
