Stay was comfortable and the property was very inviting to us and our furry friends.Cons: Asian lady beetle corpses.. LOTS of them. Perhaps a pre-checkin vacuum would be good.Random pickup truck vigorously 2 tracking in the rv park area in front of our cabin late into the evening.
We had a wonderful time enjoying each other's company away from the hustle and bustle. Highly recommend!

Beautiful setting !
The cabin is set in a beautiful valley and gives a large extended family ( with three dogs ! ) plenty of space to sleep, play and eat ! The grounds are great for exploring even if you don't take advantage of the ATV trails. The host was very welcoming when he stopped by and made sure we had everything we needed !
Enjoyed a weekend in the woods. Was nice to unplug for a bit. There is wifi in the cabin but cell coverage dropped a few miles from the resort. Very easy to get to as we didn’t arrive until after dark. We did some grilling, hiking, resting, and drove up to Dubuque for a date night which was about half an hour away. The host had great communication about somethings I had questions on.
As the other reviews were good, I can only assume that something odd happened this time. We arrived at 9pm and the house had not been cleaned since the previous stay. There were dirty linens piled on the couch, beds, and in the bathroom. There were dead bugs everywhere. Steve was apologetic. I contacted VRBO and was told the only way to get a refund is if the cancellation is initiated by the owner, but they would send a courtesy email on my behalf. I was then contacted by a property management company named Evolve. I sent photos of the home condition and received a notice of refund from Evolve, but was told that I needed to contact VRBO again to get a refund of fees. I am supposed to receive the return of the fees in 10-14 days after the refund from the management company. I realize unfortunate things just happen sometimes and although it was a little too much work on my part to request a refund, I’m hoping it’s all resolved now.

Hi Daune, we want our guests to arrive at a vacation home that is 100% ready for their stay, so we take the cleanliness of our properties seriously. We are very sorry that the cabin was not ready upon arrival, and we have followed up with the homeowner and cleaning team to ensure this will not happen again. We confirmed that you did receive a full refund, and we hope that helped make up for any inconvenience you felt.
We had a nice stay with a family of 12. Plenty of sleeping room and enough seating to eat all together. The place is rustic and very much off the beaten path so it’s best if you plan to stay around the cabin. We enjoyed the hiking trails when the ATVs weren’t on them and the pond was lovely. Also beautiful at night since you can see so many stars.
Steve was a great host and checked on us to make sure we didn’t need anything.
My family and I enjoyed this property; it was secluded and relaxing! The snow surprised us with traveling restrictions getting up the driveway, but we appreciated the land. Would had appreciated a washer/dryer and full WiFi capabilities (property utilized a hotspot with data limits; no Verizon cell service). Overall, this was a great stay and I would definitely utilize this property again!
We had a family getaway with 12 people. This cabin is remote, no cell service and no WIFI but we enjoyed it's proximity to the places we wanted to visit. The host was attentive and kind.
Steve was so amazing!! We will definitely rent from him again!!!

It was a Great Getaway!
I am a teacher and needed an escape before the craziness! My husband and I along with our 4 children had a wonderful time at the cabin. It was secluded and a great escape! This cabin is a little close to another cabin, I think if we return we will stay in the other cabin, as it is further away! But still we had no problems with anyone! Next time we will bring our ATVs as the trails looked awesome! We walked some of the area and it absolutely stunning! The pond was nice too! It is located so you can go explore Eastern Iowa. We went to Maquoketa Caves Park and Dubuque and both were great!
Steve stopped by and made sure we were all okay. The internet was not working so we had no means of reaching the outside world! At first it was frustrating but after awhile it was a godsend. This is definitely on our list of places to return!
Before arriving I needed to contact the owner, Steve. He was wonderful. He was able to answer all of my questions relating to COVID 19 and the cleanliness of his property and surrounding areas. We had originally booked the property to go hiking at the caves, but the day we arrived the caves were closed. I can't fault the owners for the closures, but that was a major bummer. The house was great for my family of 4 and my 2 parents. The stairs were a little steep for my kids (My 4 year old took a tumble down the steps), but we just used caution the rest of the time. The stairs reminded us of a lighthouse that matched the decor of the house. If you are worried about the stairs, there are two bedrooms on the bottom and 2 on the top, so we opted to not using the bedrooms on the second floor.
The owner Steve was a great host. He visited us a few times and once brought us a sweet treat. As far as social distancing, there were other people ATV-ing on the property, but we hardly noticed them and did not come in contact with anyone, besides the owner. My husband and kids had a great time fishing at the pond, and my son (4) caught some bass.
Overall it was a great stay and a great way to disconnect from the world. At the moment our phones did not get any service and the wifi was out of service, but we hardly noticed. We would definitely come back again!
Out in the middle of nowhere and we loved it! Wonderful place!
Clean, quiet place

Nice country environment
Our group of 11 were very comfortable in the cabin suitable for 12. The accommodations were adequate for our stay. Two complete bathrooms were a bonus, a nice kitchen area with utinsels and dishes, it was great to have supplied linnens and towels. Thanks for the outdoor spaces in which to entertain choldren and relax around the firepit. We were extremely pleased!
We had a great time exploring the caves at the nearby state park, playing pasture golf, and hiking the nearby trails. The Whispering Meadows resort was a great location for these activities and family time together.
