About this property

2BR Explorer’s Base | Bikes, Kayaks, Ferry

Step into this charming Nanaimo coastal retreat, just a short walk from the Departure Bay Ferry. Enter through the back door into a bright kitchen, straight into the living room, with a central hub connecting 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. King bed in master with ensuite, twin daybed in second with work desk. Fully fenced yard, BBQ, picnic cooler, 2 kayaks, bikes, and nearby paved trails. Explore cafés, marina views, beaches, and hilly island adventures—your perfect getaway awaits.

Imagine stepping off the Departure Bay ferry, the ocean breeze brushing your face, the sun sparkling across the water, and the gentle calls of gulls welcoming you to Vancouver Island. Just a short walk along the waterfront, tucked on Stewart Avenue, your charming coastal stay awaits—a home full of warmth and character.

As you step through the back door beneath the carport and into the bright, inviting kitchen, the air feels alive with possibility. From here, you walk straight into the living room, sunlight pouring through the picture window framing the marina and shimmering waters beyond. Just to your left, a doorway opens into the heart of the home, where the bedrooms and bathrooms branch naturally—no hallways, just open, connected space that feels intuitive and welcoming.

This home sits on the traditional and ancestral territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, whose people have lived, fished, and celebrated along these shores for thousands of years. Their history is woven into the land itself—the bay, the trails, and the hills around Stewart Avenue are alive with stories of generations who called this place home. Being here, even for a short stay, connects you to that living heritage.

The primary bedroom offers a plush king bed and ensuite with a stand-up shower. Sliding doors open to a fully fenced yard, a quiet spot for morning coffee, reading, or starry evenings. The second bedroom features a twin daybed and a dedicated work-from-home setup with a desk and ergonomic chair, perfect for balancing adventure and productivity. A second bathroom with tub/shower combo and a washer/dryer downstairs make longer stays effortless.

Step outside and feel the energy of this vibrant neighborhood. Stewart Avenue is full of character and adventure, with views and paths that make every walk memorable. Just up the hill, a paved trail along Hwy 19A invites biking, strolling, or hopping on one of the local electric scooters or e-bikes. Your stay includes two kayaks (waiver required), two bikes, a picnic cooler, and a BBQ—everything you need for a day on the water, exploring the coastline, or enjoying the island at your own pace.

Nearby, Nanaimo’s local cafés and restaurants offer the perfect taste of the community: Drip Coffee, Departure Bay Café, Marina’s Taverna & Pizza, The Nest Bistro, Beach Fire Brewing, and White Rabbit Coffee Co. Each one brings flavor, culture, and enjoyment to your visit.

This isn’t just a home near the ferry. It’s a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and connect—to the present, to the land, and to the generations who have cherished it before you. Every corner, every view, every quiet moment here is an invitation to feel at home while honoring the living legacy of the Snuneymuxw people.

Come stay. Come wander. Come paddle, cycle, explore, laugh, and simply be. Come fall in love with Nanaimo—and with the waters, neighbourhood, and stories of the land that have shaped it for thousands of years. Your Stewart Avenue getaway awaits, ready to become part of your own story.

Having extra toilet paper or kleenex would have been useful, and having appropriate sized sheets for the additional pull out bed (4th person), and another blanket, would have been better. Otherwise, the location and cleanliness was excellent. A BBQ for our salmon would have been ideal. Thank you for hosting our stay in Nanaimo.

We appreciate your suggestions regarding additional supplies and bedding for the pull-out bed. Extra bedding and a BBQ are available at the property, and we’ll review how we communicate these details more clearly for future guests. Thank you again for staying with us, and we hope you had a wonderful time enjoying the fresh local salmon and exploring the area!
