About the host
Hosted by Katie
We have always loved the quiet beaches and sense of community of the North End. We feel so fortunate to now call the North End “home”. Our family was also drawn to these properties due to their proximity to the Fort Story military base. My husband recently retired from the military. Our children love being able to see the occasional special military vehicles driving down the street. Listen closely and you might also hear the traditional military bugle calls at sunrise and sunset from the house. PS: You can visit the light houses on Fort Story without being a veteran! Our family loves being able to walk to the beach and explore the unmarked trails of First Landing State Park. We feel blessed to be able to share this space with others.
We hope that you’ll enjoy a few sunrises with coffee on the bench at 89th Street, climb the light house, maybe even stay up late and catch a few sand crabs on the beach - all of it - most of all, we hope that you will feel at home here during your time in Virginia Beach!
It is very important to us that you feel at home, so please do not hesitate to reach us if you need anything. Southern hospitality defines my personality. :) If we can do anything to be helpful, please reach out.
Why they chose this property
The North End of Virginia Beach has a history rooted in its natural beauty and its role as a coastal community. It's been a place of both natural and human-made history, from Native American origins to colonial settlements and modern development.
Early History: The area was inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before European settlement.
Colonial Era: In 1607, English settlers, led by Captain Christopher Newport, landed at Cape Henry, which is in present-day Virginia Beach. This marked the beginning of Virginia Beach's recorded history. They explored the area for three days before heading inland to establish Jamestown.
Development and Transformation:
Coastal Community: The North End developed as a coastal community, known for its beautiful beaches and slower pace of life.
Luxury and Serenity: It's characterized by elegant beachfront properties, charming cottages, and luxurious estates, attracting residents who value privacy and relaxation.
What makes this property unique
Neighborhood Tips:
Beach Access: There is a beach access on the eastern end of every block. They are each unique and lovely. Our favorite, and the closest, is the 89th Street Beach Access. It is lined with live oaks.
First Landing State Park: You can access miles of unmarked trails at the western end of 88th Street. We like to go left, explore the sand dunes, and exit on 85th Street.
Cape Henry Light House at Fort Story: Anyone can tour the Cape Henry Light House on Fort Story - not just those with military I.D. Simply walk to the Fort Story entrance across the street, get checked in, and a bus will drive you to the lighthouse.
