About this property
If you prefer wildlife over nightlife this is the place for you, Fakahatchee!
we have plenty of secure skiff/flatsboat parking the gate is 20 feet wide
big cypress everglades national park chokoluskee 10 thousand islands and everglades city are all just minutes away. we look forward to being your headquarters for your adventures in the glades.
We are located at the front entrance to Fakahatchee state preserve which is the largest in Florida an 85000 acres. many endangered species both animal and plant call this home. your best chance at seeing a Florida panther or the everglades mink is in this area. Fakahatchee is on the registry of dark sky which make for incredible nighttime star viewing and a lot of nights you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye. right across the highway is big cypress and to our south is everglades national park. if you can't tell I really love this place.
Our property has a fence along the street side with a gated entry to the driveway, house and 3.5 acres. The new 2025 manufactured home has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen with island seating and laundry room. The primary bedroom has a queen bed with large closet and bathroom. The second bedroom has a full bed & closet, along with a twin bed underneath if needed. The living room has a couch and 2 rocking chairs, one that reclines. Kitchen includes an island with stool seating, oven, microwave and all cooking essentials. There is a small chess table with two chairs in the kitchen as well. Washer and dryer are available for use in the laundry room.
Guest access
The property is accessible for guests, but be mindful of uneven terrain, sharp objects and nature’s unpredictable elements. There are mosquitos and insects as well as Everglades animals. Bug spray and protective clothing, as well hiking boots or sneakers are recommended. Watch your step and keep an eye out for animals.
Guests can utilize the outdoor fire pit, along with the horseshoe game or explore paths into wooded areas near the Fakahatchee Preserve.
Beware of wildlife: bears & panthers frequent the property, as well as turkeys and all sorts of birds of prey.
Please do not feed or interfere with the animals that pass through, we share the land with the animals, maintaining a peaceful environment.
Other things to note
Please remember this is the Everglades and living here is a lot different from being in a big city or town. Some hosts may leave these details out I believe in full disclosure none of them are a big deal or even bad it’s just how it is. Everglades has an absolutely magical place it just necessarily meant for humans
Being easy going & flexible will help you deal with issues that might arise. Here are a few common things:
.
Animals visit the property daily, we have a very large bear population and for their safety and ours we do not feed them or approach them. The Panthers are a lot more secretive, but if I happen to get one on a camera during your visit I will send you the picture. Coyotes pass-through nightly, don’t really bother much. These animals are the top three reasons that we have made the rule of no pets. It has a lot more to do with the safety of your animals than anything else. We happen to love dogs, but find ourselves on high alert whenever we bring them here; it’s just not enjoyable. If you have a legitimate service dog we will look into making an exception, but ask that you keep it on a leash and do so at your own risk. One of our favorite parts of this property is the wildlife, but if it makes you nervous you may want to look further south a couple miles into Everglades city.
While the house is brand new 2025, the property itself has been in and out of use since 1940, we don’t have the grounds themselves 100% yet and will probably take a couple more years to get closer. This is referring to the exotic vegetation removals,
Replanting of native species and removal of the litter and trash from both bears and humans. You should consider the yard and woods to be a work in progress and we cannot plant or seed until the rainy season in the summer it’s just too dry.
Please excuse the dust and sand in the yard, hopefully by this time next year we will have big Greenfields and beautiful open views of the Cypress & swamp. Feel free to explore the property though you never know what you might find.
nearby restaurants in Everglade city are great but also not always open normal hours they are very seasonal and the town tends to close pretty early. There is a small grocery store in town and if you drive 25 to 30 minutes west on 41 you will hit west Naples and you will find a Publix and any other store or amenity that you could desire. Plus it’s a beautiful drive through the wetlands ,
