Cisco is a favorite area of the island due to its relaxed pace and proximity to great beaches. Located on the southwest part of the island, Cisco has it all – rolling hills and pastures, ponds, farmland, and the beach. If you’re looking to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Town and Mid-Island, Cisco is the place for you. And did we mention the breathtaking sunsets?
Beaches, Ponds & Walking Trails
Cisco Beach, the Bluff, and Ladies Beach are all popular spots for surfers and sun-worshippers. Nantucket Island Surf School teaches surfing at Cisco Beach during the busy summer months. Right near the beach, you will find Hummock Pond and Clark’s Cove – two great ponds for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, or strolling the shores. Adjacent to the ponds is Ram’s Pasture, a huge swath of land, once used for grazing sheep and cows, farming, and harvesting wood. Originally set aside as “common land” by Nantucket’s original shareholders in the 1600s, it is now owned by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation and offers views of the ocean and hiking trails, especially fun to walk with a dog.
Golf
A favorite of locals and visitors alike, the newly renovated Miacomet Golf Club is the Island’s only public 18 hole course. The link style course is owned by the Nantucket Land Bank and is expertly maintained. Their casual indoor/outdoor restaurant is always a popular hangout spot, whether or not you actually play golf.
Attractions
It’s no secret that one of the funnest ways to spend a summer afternoon on Nantucket is a visit to the world-famous Cisco Brewers – Triple Eight Distillery – Nantucket Vineyard. Getting there and back from Town, just hop on the free shuttle bus (every half hour) from the Visitor’s Center on Federal Street. While you're there, enjoy a pint of their craft beer, a creative signature cocktail garnished with herbs from their garden, or a glass of wine, all the while enjoying live music in a sunshine-filled courtyard. This is a great place for the whole family, both kid and dog friendly. They offer tours and tastings, and there are food trucks and a raw bar in the summer. Better yet, bring your own food from their next door neighbor, Bartlett’s Ocean View Farm, the largest and oldest farm on the island where you can find a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, grocery items, and sundries. The farm also has a full kitchen where they make prepared foods to go. Aside from their delicious food, Dharma Yoga has its yoga studio in the loft above the market.
Events
The Annual Yoga Festival takes place at Bartlett’s.
