PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION PRIOR TO MAKING RESERVATION.
This Vintage home built in1900 was purchased as our family home in 1987 named Captain's Quarters in memory of my late husband, Riverboat Captain Mark W. Peters. Mark piloted the paddlewheeler Hiawatha, on the Mississippi River and gave guided tours on Lake Pepin. The Mississippi Room consists of a vintage style queen bed, electric fireplace, a private balcony and a ceiling fan. In addition to the electric fireplace and ceiling fan, the home has forced air heat and central air. Robes, towels, a shower mat and an extra blanket have been conveniently placed in the bedroom closet. The bathroom is conveniently located next to the bedroom on the second level. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and a free standing soaking tub. On the main floor there is a washer and dryer available. The kitchen is fully equipped with an eat-in dinette and breakfast counter. It also includes a full size refrigerator with ice maker, range, dishwasher, microwave, 2-Way FlexBrew coffeemaker, toaster, mixer, slow cooker, and all the utensils and cookware needed to prepare a meal if you prefer to eat in. The dining room features a round oak table, gas fireplace, and French doors that open to a wraparound deck which has a charcoal BBQ grill, table and chairs. Living room has a Smart TV and Blu Ray Player. There is also a three season porch with board games, puzzles, books, and electric fireplace. Outside there is a small backyard patio and fire pit, room to play yard games. We provide two vintage style bicycles for your bike riding pleasure. (Available with advance request) Enjoy the peace and tranquility of a small town in a quiet neighborhood with off street parking for two vehicles only. Your visit may be filled with antiquing, wine tasting at area wineries, visiting the National Eagle center, golfing on one of the many golf courses, skiing or snowshoeing (snowshoes available with advance request) in the winter. Complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate available for relaxing on the deck or in front of the fireplace, a perfect way to end your day. My goal at Captain's Quarters is to make you feel welcome and comfortable and that when you leave you take a new memory to add to your life's journey.
For our guests' safety, we have a monitoring security camera light mounted at the exterior of the front door.

About the host
Hosted by Denise Peters

With the exception of a few years after high school graduation, I am a lifelong Lake City resident. I attended schools in the area and after completion of post secondary education, I worked in the health care system in Lake City for several years, before retiring in 2010. I continue to live here in Lake City with my current husband Lyle, also a long time Lake City resident, enjoying retirement together.
Why they chose this property
This home was purchased by myself and my late husband Mark in 1987. This was our hometown and we loved the area. Mark served in the U.S. Coast Guard and loved being on the water so it was only natural we remained close to the river and the lake. We made a decision to remain here to raise our two children.
What makes this property unique
The house attracted us because it was affordable. Mark and I were young, in our 20's and we were looking forward to owning our first home. The main attraction for us was the location, the age of the house, its wood floors and the open layout of the living room and dining room. As time went on during the recession of the 80's we appreciated the fact that we had a home, these were some hard times. We settled in and added our own touches. The house is very old but exudes a feeling of warmth. After Mark died in 1995 our children and I remained here. I chose to keep our home after they were grown. Welcoming guests and sharing a home filled with memories has been enjoyable. What I love most about my home is who I share it with. When I'm not sharing my home with you it is often used by myself and children for much reminiscing. I have opted to accent it with vintage and antique items some from childhood, others found through my passion for collecting. Current husband Lyle and I meet all our guests at check in. We share information about the area and answer any questions you may have. Because we own and operate, you never have to deal with a property manager, we do it all. We live in Lake City and are just a text or phone call away.
