We’ve been coming to SGI with our dog since 2014 & have rented multiple houses. The location & layout of Driftwood is exceptional. You can trust the beautiful photos in the listing. The house has all of the charming quirks that go with being right on the ocean. We would definitely hope to stay at Driftwood again & 2026 discussions are already underway!
This house is right on the beach, y’all. Big, covered deck with comfy chairs and picnic table allowed us to enjoy the beach day and night. Indoors is cozy and well appointed. It’s an older home, so not fancy. It’s well worn/homey which is perfect for families. No stairs once inside the house made it easy for my 80-year old father and sister recovering from foot surgery. We ate most of our meals at the house and the kitchen had everything we needed. We’ll return for another fun vacation!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!! We will likely be renting this property again for our St. George trips in the future. Very peaceful part of the island. The couches could use a good cleaning, but I can only imagine trying to stay ahead of that with a rental. Overall, it’s a great place!
Great views and location. House is defiantly pet friendly. We didn’t bring a pet but there was dog hair in bathroom corners, not a big deal for us. We’ll appointed beach cottage for a great week! Would stay again.
My first time at St George Island and we loved it. The house was bigger than I expected. Both bathrooms were a great size. The best part about this house is it being beachfront. The beach is not crowded at all. It almost feels like you are the only ones out there. Couldn’t say enough about location. House had everything we needed. Only con was the wifi was slow, so working from home was a little bothersome. Would definitely stay again!
Pros: location- absolutely breathtaking. Perfect right on the beach. Easy to find. Amenities, top tier items in home for personal care/plenty of clean towels/sheets. Beds were super comfy! The house was a great size, easy to enjoy time alone/together as desired. CONS: needs a lot of updating. Most appliances rusted/ poorly cared for. Whole house needs to be stripped/sanded/painted. Light fixtures don’t fit the bathroom- can’t open cabinet well. Dryer took 4 hours to dry one small load. Lots of mud on lower walls, and obvious dogs allowed with the damage to the walls/trim on lower parts. Stained seats in entire living room. We were very displeased with cleanliness with the dog hair/dust balls/food splatter.

Needs Updating
Only thing going for this property is beach front. All the furnishings need to be updated. Not a comfortable chair in the house. Dog accidents on carpet. Disgusting! Refrigerator makes noise and needs to be replaced. Very small for a family. Most TV stations are not hi-def. Dirty fingerprints on cupboards, coffee pot, and front class door. Small bugs all over kitchen and no outside trash receptacle. Dangerous first step onto
deck (several of us tripped). Door slams and is also dangerous. Overpriced for what you get. Wasn’t much to choose from when I booked. Will NOT be returning. Very disappointing!
We had a great stay. The location to the beach and the quiet area are not to be missed. The little house had everything we needed.
Pros:
Location. Perfect place to be if you want to avoid the town traffic. Golf carts aren’t allowed this far out, so there was really only foot traffic and the occasional car. Even though there are houses abode and behind you, it still feels private. The house has all the necessary cooking things…everything you can think of. It has a cup and regular coffee pot. They left soaps and shampoo/conditioner, plus a hair dryer. The front porch was lovely and we spent a lot of time sitting out there. There was a grill but we didn’t use it because of the weather.
Cons:
The house was clean enough, but it did smell of mildew/mold/wetness. The living room furniture smelled like dog urine and it could use a good stream cleaning. We did our best to spray Lysol and cover it with sheets before we sat on it, lit a couple candles which along with opening the windows did help. Side note: I have a very sensitive nose, and not everyone in my party could smell it.
Maybe this is just the way it is in most houses on the island, but since we’ve not stayed at this beach before we were a little surprised by that. Normally we would just stay outside so it wouldn’t matter, but it rained everyday but our check in and checkout days. Sigh.
The house needs some updating for sure, but it is all you really need at the beach! Will be back!

Disappointed
Upon arrival and entering the property, the place "wreaked" with a strong odor that smelled like someone had been cooking fish with old grease for an extended amount of time or Mediterranean cooking with heavy spices, with no apparent effort to "neutralize" the smell before renting again. It was so bad, we had to open the doors/windows but it was imbedded in the curtains, linens, etc. and even in the freezer. We contacted management and appealed to them to send someone with Lysol, Fabreeze and other cleaning materials to neutralize the smell in the curtains, linens, etc. and on the third day of a 5 night stay, housekeeping shows up and offers to steam mop the hardwood floors. This was an apparent attempt to "check the box" response as they didn't even shut the engine off on their vehicle. Further, while representing as "pet friendly", the entire yard is full of sand spurs, so every time our little dog went in the yard or on the way to the beach, she ended up with a coat and mouth full of sand spurs (a simple fix) so we ended up having to carry her as this was fairly traumatic for an animal that had never experienced them. Also, 2 of the tv remote controls did not work properly (again a very inexpensive fix with the cost of universal remotes) Overall, it appears that this property is focused on profits and not customer satisfaction. Not what you expect when paying for a premium property.
