Welcome to Lonestar on the Plains, a thoughtfully appointed home designed for comfort, style, and easy living in Auburn.
Owned by a Texas family with a current student at Auburn University, this home is the kind of place we always hoped to find when visiting. Warm, beautifully cared for, and a little elevated, it feels inviting the moment you walk in. Every detail was chosen with care, from the professionally curated décor and quality furnishings to the artwork and colors that celebrate Auburn’s landmarks and spirit.
The single level layout offers more than 1,200 square feet of comfortable, welcoming space with room for everyone to spread out. Two bedrooms feature king beds dressed in soft linens, creating restful spaces to unwind at the end of the day. The third bedroom includes two double beds that work well for kids, friends, or additional guests. With space to comfortably sleep eight, the home is ideal for families, couples traveling together, or game day weekends.
The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking and gathering, and the open living and dining areas make it easy to spend time together, whether you are sharing a meal, watching a movie, or catching up after a busy day around town. Comfortable seating, smart TVs, and thoughtful touches throughout help the house feel relaxed and lived in rather than temporary.
Out back, you’ll find a private patio with seating and a grill, plus a spacious yard where kids and dogs can play and everyone can enjoy the fresh air. It’s one of our favorite spots to slow down in the evenings.
Located in a quiet neighborhood less than 2 miles from campus, restaurants, and all that **Auburn University has to offer, the home offers both convenience and a peaceful place to recharge.
Whether you’re visiting for football weekends, parents’ weekend, graduation, or simply time away together, we hope this house feels like your place in Auburn. It’s a home we genuinely love, and we’re excited to share it with you.

About the host
Hosted by Madi Akin
I am a Texas native with a daughter at Auburn, which is what brought us here in the first place. After the first year of game weekends, move-in and last-minute visits from Houston, we bought this cottage as our place to stay when we come visit her. That is where the name Lonestar on the Plains comes from.
The interiors were designed by Jessica Pittman of Pittman Interiors, and the result is a home that feels finished and comfortable rather than furnished for turnover. I handle the guest side personally, from the setup to the local recommendations in your guest portal, and I keep a trusted local team in Auburn so the house is well cared for and someone is minutes away if you need anything.
Whatever brings you to Auburn, we want the house to be the easy part.
Why they chose this property
Piper Glen is the kind of neighborhood you notice on the drive in. It is cute, quiet and full of individually owned homes, with a mix of students and visiting families, so it feels lived in rather than institutional. What we like most is the balance. Campus is under two miles away, which means game days, move-in weekends and dinner downtown are all a short drive, but the street itself stays relaxed and easy to come home to.
Weekends here usually look like coffee downtown, an afternoon at Chewacla State Park or Kiesel Park, and dinner within a few minutes of the house. Football season is its own kind of fun, and the rest of the year Auburn is a genuinely pleasant small town to spend time in.
What makes this property unique
We bought this cottage as the place our family stays when we come see our daughter, and we furnished it that way. Every decision came down to one question: would we actually want to spend a weekend here? That is why the kitchen is set up to cook in, why the beds are ones we sleep in ourselves, and why there is real seating for everyone instead of a couch and a folding chair.
The interiors were designed by Jessica Pittman of Pittman Interiors, so the house is genuinely finished rather than furnished for turnover. Guests tell us it feels like a home someone lives in and takes care of, not a rental.
With three bedrooms, room for eight and a quiet neighborhood two miles from campus, it works just as well for a family in for a football weekend as it does for parents visiting a student.
