About the area
About this property
Sunny 4-bedroom Hummingbird Chalet with public swim access to Green Lake
Located a 2-minute walk from Green Lake's southwest shore, this house offers a lovely retreat for guests seeking comfort and space. With four bedrooms featuring a mix of full and twin beds for up to 12 people, there’s plenty of room for family or friends to spread out. Two bathrooms minimize wait times and the AC keeps the atmosphere refreshing throughout any hot summer day. Whether relaxing on the wrap-around deck on an afternoon with shade from a mature spruce, or gathering for an indoor meal, guests will find the setting enjoyable and inviting.
An 8-minute walk with your own gear wagon will take you to "Sandy Beach" public access, with plenty of shallow water for kids to enjoy, and adult swim depth about 60 yards out. Three other swim accesses are even nearer.
We keep a modest assortment of beach toys in a chest on the front deck.
There are many, varied attractions within an easy to access half-day or full day trip away from the lake.
The village of Green Lake is a 15 minute drive, where guests can peruse the downtown area with its shops, cafes and restaurants, bait shop, and ice cream stand. The Thrasher Opera House offers live music and other entertainment.
Within a 12 minute drive is Princeton, with its popular Saturday morning Flea Market, renowned Renard's Bakery, Horseradish sandwich shop, and several gift shops and taverns with food and live music, and access to the Fox River as it flows on its winding way toward Green Bay.
Some guests bring bicycles and enjoy riding a few miles on the quiet residential roads of the surrounding "Terrace" residential area. Others like the scenic "Loop the Lake" route of 23 miles along a variety of terrain. (Our garage is not accessible to guests, but a generous eave overhang of the garage roof keeps our bikes dry in most conditions.)
Rileys Pub is a pleasant 10 minute stroll away, and features a varied menu in a friendly atmosphere. There are other restaurants and several Amish bakeries and other businesses within 10 to 20 miles.
For a broader tour of Wisconsin's environmental features and history over a half day, John Muir's boyhood is commemorated at John Muir County Park. Observatory Hill, Muir's favorite place to hike up and view the mounds and rolling hills of this Central Sands Region, is about 20 miles away, with public access to the summit.
For another adventure, Mecan Springs is about 45 minutes away and is popular for canoeing and fishing. Downstream, the Mecan River is popular with trout anglers.
A public boat launch is available at Dodge County Park, only one mile to the east. Our loop driveway will accommodate most tow vehicles and a trailer, with room for two more vehicles in front of the garage.
For wildlife appreciation, Sandhill Cranes are commonly heard bugling and calling from the nearby Roy Creek estuary and marshes around nearby Lake Puckaway. Geese, terns, cormorants, ducks and other wildlife frequent the area, with an occasional Osprey or Bald Eagle soaring over the lake. Deer are often visible in lake evening at field edges along nearby roads, and on occasion a deer may visit the cottage. Coyotes and owls can be heard at times at deep dusk on quiet evenings.
We look forward to hosting you at our place. There is much to enjoy!
