The gentle rolling hills of the landscape, the rugged cliffs, the white sandy beaches, and the Bodden—a bay typical of the Baltic Sea—create a fascinating scene. And let’s not forget the 5-kilometer-long headland, the Reddevitzer Höft, which juts out into the Baltic Sea. Anyone interested in the region’s and surrounding area’s history should definitely visit the school museum in Middelhagen. Classes were held here for about 150 years. Today it’s a museum, and anyone interested can sign up for a historical lesson. It’s a great experience for the whole family.
Hiking enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy on Mönchgut. Several hiking trails wind their way through Bodden meadows and fields, across the Zickersche Alpen, along the forested dune belt, or right along the beach. During the summer months, you can also join guided hikes, as the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve is a unique landscape conservation area that is home to rare plants.
