We had a wonderful time at Roque Bluffs. The property was beautiful, just as advertised. The views were magnificent and the sounds of the waves against the shore were so peaceful! We highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful, private getaway with family!
We had a wonderful stay. We have been to Maine several times and this place was the best. The views are amazing and our kids had so much fun down by the water. The house was clean and comfortable. April was quick to respond when we had questions. We hope to be back!
Our family arrived for a way too short 4 days. This fabulous property is pretty remote so I would recommend staying longer! The house and views and property are stunning. We spent most nights cooking wonderful dinners and just hanging out! Loved this property so much and have many hopes to return in a year or two! Communication with host was excellent also!
Absolutely beautiful property! Private beach was awesome. Children enjoyed picking wild blueberries all over property. Ask for Cpt. Larry to take you out in the lobster boat. Can’t wait to return.
Our family had a wonderful time enjoying the incredible views and the beautiful beach. It was the most amazing family vacation we've had! The house was spacious and well-equipped. We would recommend this property without hesitation--definitely worth the drive!
Stay here only if you want an AMAZING experience. ;)
Amazing property, incredible location, fantastic views. My wife and I spent the first hour of each morning sitting outside watching the ocean from our own private bluff... We spent a fair amount of time on the secluded rocky beach, and loved the rustic landscaping and all the rose hips! The property has everything we needed, and so much we never had a chance to use (TONS of books, games, etc.). We LOVED being so far removed from the more populated areas of Maine, and spent some time in Lubec, and had lunch a couple of times on Campobello island. MUST do the lobster boat ride with Captain Larry (ask April, or there's a flier at the property), and we cooked our fresh lobster at the house and ate it outside on the picnic table. We fell in love with Maine, and this house... and you will too!
Beautiful home nestled in private setting on serene waterfront property. Enjoyed coffee overlooking water, mornings on beach, deer spotting in yard, and nearby hike in Roque Bluffs State Park. Home was extremely comfortable!
Had a great week staying with family and friends at this wonderful property. Great views of the water once the fog lifted. Fun watching the wildlife on the property. The house was everything we hope and wish it would be,

Great retreat!
My husband, 10 yr old son, and I had a wonderful week at this beautiful home! The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in away from home and the grounds are perfect for relaxing! We enjoyed hiking the Great Wass Preserve and visiting Machias Seal Island preserve to see the Puffins as well as playing in the cove and relaxing out back.
The home was even better than we expected. Ocean views all day, with a short walk to the private beach. The home was amazing, plenty of space for everyone to relax after a day of activities. The home had everything we would need and April was extremely responsive. We loved our time in Roques Bluff as we made it our base for visiting various spots along the coast and inland.
This was an amazing vacation for our little family. The house and the property were just gorgeous- truly unique. We had everything we needed and more. The views from the house were stunning. The house was so special- a beautiful home. The property was situated in one of most beautiful parts of Maine. Our hosts were kind, accessible and easy to communicate with. We look forward to staying here again in the future.
This is for sure a special place. The house is nicely built and furnished with fantastic views from every window.
Pictures do not do this property justice!
The private beach / cove is amazing and truly unique.
The views, the house, the location... All un-matched!
Having stayed at more than 30 rental houses and I can confidently say you will not regret staying on this property!
This property is exactly as described. The pictures do not do it justice in regards to location and view. We traveled with two of my adult children, one of their friends, and my mother-in-law. We were more than comfortable. The location was perfect. The house was perfect and April was easily reached for any issues. I am looking forward to returning in the future.
Our yearly vacation to Washington County has never been so comfortable or easy! The communication from booking through trash pickup was timely and professional. Our family uses this vacation to relax and connect with nature and each other. Every review of this property will tell you the same thing… everything you want is in this house already. The details from the quality bedding to the well appointed kitchen is unparalleled. Don’t get me started on the view! I would recommend this home without hesitation.
We traveled with adult children and their grandmother. The home was perfect for our stay. It is remote and off of the touristy path, which is exactly what we wanted. We opened the windows and enjoyed the cool breeze in early July. We loved exploring the trails near the house and the rocky beach. We could not go to Maine without a lobster boil. We called ahead to a local fisherman and picked up 6 on the 4th of July, and later enjoyed them on the picnic table outside. The smaller kitchen table was perfect for cards and board games. We would love to come back!
Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, this beautiful house sits in an amazing location! Our family had a great stay in this lovely house that is nestled on top of a cliff overlooking a cove. With access to the cove, the kids were entertained for hours with tidepools, gentle waves, climbing on the rocks, etc. - we had a hard time pulling them away to explore other areas! The house has a great layout, the beds/bedding are very comfortable, the older kids enjoyed the loft area, the house is well stocked with what you need, and the owner is very responsive. Altogether this was a great place to relax and enjoy the last few days of summer. It's also just about an hour away from Campobello Island in NB Canada which was a great place to head for a day trip. We would love to return in the future!

An amazing gem
What a wonderful week in a stunning location. Six of us (a three year old, two 8 year olds, an 11 year old, and two adults) drove up from Maryland to spend a week here this past August. All of us had a great time and had plenty to do. We spent much of the time on the property- the kids spent hours playing on the rocks (both during high and low tide) - collecting seaweed and exploring tide pools while we either joined them or relaxed up by the house. There were wild blueberries all over so we collected them to make muffins and a cake. We took some day trips up north- Campobello Island (Canada) and hiked the Bold Coast (highly worth the drive) and went into to Machias a couple of times. Overall an amazing, peaceful, relaxing vacation in one of the most beautiful locations in Maine I've been to yet. Can't say enough good things about it and can't wait to go back!

Peaceful & serene taste of downeast Maine
Thank you April and Steve for sharing your beautiful home with us. The surroundings were exquisite. Peaceful, serene, and remote. Despite many houses in the area, they were all nestled well within the forest and could not be seen. We literally saw only one person in the area during the entire week. We had the entire area to ourselves including the wonderful cove where we spent a great deal of time exploring. We heard only the sounds of nature. No planes, no cars. Just the sound of waves crashing into the rocks, birds in the forest, insects in the bushes. A family of deer. The days were sunny and warm except for one day when it rained a little and the fog rolled in. It made for a more dramatic landscape and better pictures. Nights were crisp and cool with the sea air blowing through the windows, and you could see every star in the universe. No light pollution. The house was as described. Comfortable and inviting, and spacious enough for our family. The master bedroom had a g The Wi-Fi was spotty, but truthfully, I wish it didn't work at all. Cell service, too, was spotty, but that was also OK.

Solitude, beauty & better than home charm
My family and I decided on a Maine get-away, at the last minute. The property owner was prompt and ever so helpful in responding. This allowed our family to make a quick informed decision to visit Maine, Down-East Maine. The owner was helpful with information on the area and ideas for pre-planning.
Then.... we arrive at Roque Bluffs. Soul"filling" is the best to describe the property and location of Mack Cove - Roque Bluffs. The house has flawless views of the cove, ocean, nature and sunlight. It is a perfect place to reconnect with self and nature. The property sits on a bluff with access to a cove with a private classic Maine beach. The tidal differences are forever fun and allowed hours of rock skipping and climbing for our children. Low or high tide great for launching Stand-up Paddle board or kayak. We visited with average temperatures of 72 degrees and kids were able to wade in water. Roque Bluff State Park located very near and is a great sandy beach with a pond across the street.
The House .... It has EVERYTHING needed to make a families stay even better than home. Kitchen fully stocked with cooking and baking supplies, appliances new and nice. The beauty of the home, the interior design, the paintings, furniture, bedding and natural charm made this home the best vacation for our family EVER. The master bedroom is out of a coastal living magazine and on a rainy day makes for a perfect , "never get out of bed moment" with breathtaking views sun up to sun down. The loft was most fun for the boys with twin beds and cabin type feel! Unlike many private properties, the owners made us feel like family versus a business. The home, reflected their care and warm charm. Decks around the home allow sunrise and sunset views. Large dining table for family dinners. We didn't want to leave.
Specifics: Our family consists of (6), 3 teens and one elementary age child. This home was more than accommodating for all our needs. Although we wanted an escape from the crazy life, we appreciated the internet & cable for the teens. However, it was rarely accessed !
Thanks beyond words to the owners of this property. Their care in providing a "family" home for some many was met & we are grateful for our time at Mack Cove. This will definitely be a return visit annually and more if able!
We enjoyed a wonderful week at this beautiful, serene ocean/woods-side home. We spent many hours walking and reading on the rocks down at the cove. Beach access was easy for two of the three seniors at the house, the third made it using walking sticks (carefully). The stars and the milky way were spectacular, after the moon cooperated with rising a little later. The kitchen was well equipped. The wrap around porch accommodated seating in sun or shade, wet or dry. We enjoyed the well-stocked games and puzzles cupboard, and the many books around the house. The beds were comfortable, with plenty of pillows, blankets, comforters. For day trips we went to Quoddy Point and a few of its trails, Lubec, Jasper Beach, Machiasport, Machias and its museum at the old tavern, and Jonesport. A couple days we were glad to just “stay home”. I would highly recommend this lodging, and would be glad to come here again.

About the host
Hosted by April Shoemaker
We are from Maine originally, but have lived in New Jersey for over 35 years. We live in a very country like town, really more like a village. We live on 6 acres.
Why they chose this property
Since we live in a rural environment, when we looked for property privacy was very important to us and of course, when we saw our views, since we are right on the ocean there was no doubt where we should be. We love our property and we have fabulous friends that we know here in Maine. Feel very blessed.
What makes this property unique
Our home is very nice (we added new appliances and granite countertops in the kitchen) and basically tried to decorate it as a beautiful cottage with a simplicity that would be appealing and comfortable. Our bedding done with quality and lots of pillows to make your nights sleep like home. I tell guests just bring your clothes and stop to get food we have everything else waiting for you!!
