Lovely house in a beautiful setting on La Palma
We were delighted with the house, the layout of which is helpfully included in the details for the property. The surroundings: garden and terrace areas were larger than we expected, and provided plenty of outdoor furniture. The natural environment is very relaxing.
The owners, Peter and Christine, are very welcoming and are willing and able to help you with advice and recommendations. We were left a delicious selection of local produce to welcome us, which we enjoyed very much.
The main bedroom and living areas are built very well, in a characteristic Canarian style (very nice wooden roof/ceiling), and with modern conveniences. Lots of 'French windows' allow access to the outside if you wish, comfortable furniture in the living room and a well-equipped kitchen make it feel like a home.
There is even under floor heating in the main living area and a wood-burning stove for heat if needed – we did not need this in September.
The house is located at about 700m above sea level, so you have a nice view out to sea towards the west and north-west. On clear evenings you will have a great view of the night sky - there is a telescope in the house. La Palma is well-known for its good astronomical viewing conditions, when there is no cloud, so take some time to look outside at night.
Some nice walks are just a step away out of the front door, including the fantastic route to the top of the island, El Roque de los Muchachos. It is also about a 30 minute walk from the Mirador El Time cafe, which must be a cafe with one of the best views ever, and a very friendly, English speaking barman.
Even closer to the house is a path to the Mirador de las Cabezadas, which gives a magnificent view over the Barranco de las Angustias. This can be done as a pre- or post-dinner stroll, whilst there is still light.
The island as a whole is well-known for its walking, and most routes are very well marked. You will need a hire car, but these are easily available.
We really enjoyed our holiday in La Palma, and especially in this very nice house. We highly recommend it
We found the property as described, clean and well appointed, beautifully quiet and peaceful with a panoramic view over the Atlanitic and the surrounding hills.
The owners are friendly and helpful with plenty of local knowledge but not intrusive. They can supply fresh eggs from "happy hens" which made our breakfasts a special treat. We arrived to a much appreciated welcoming gift of local produce (delicious home made jam included).
Our experience whilst touring was that this part of the island had the best weather with stunning sunsets best enjoyed from the wind free terrace with gin and tonic in hand. Perfect!
Our hosts indicated several walks from the door which took us to the best views on the island.
For a relaxed stay in a beautiful situation with delightful hosts we would thoroughly recommend the Villa Ricardo.
The holiday house is located on the sunny Westside at 650 m altitude. The next village is Tijarafe, a very rural and peaceful place. The area around the finca is characterized by overgrown gardens of charming old abandoned farm houses, myriads of wild flowers and endemic plants. The magnificent blossom of the almond trees during January and February is famous. A secluded lookout over the Caldera and the harbor of Tazacorte is only a short walking distance from the house; a wonderful place to relax and get away from it all. Legend has it that this is the place where the men of the last king of the original inhabitants Tanausu saw the arrival of Spanish fleet – the place is marked with petroglyph stone carvings.
