About this property
Hand-built Sea Ranch cabin with fireplace near Bluff Trail
Summary:
Tucked into a grove of towering redwoods on California's wild Sonoma Coast. Curl up by the fireplace after a day exploring coastal trails. Your deck opens onto a private pocket of coastal nature. Room for 3 in this 1-bedroom home. Just a 7-minute walk to the heated community pool. Trails, tidepools, and two heated community pools -- all within reach. The scent of redwood and salt air mingles on the breeze -- you know you're on the Sonoma Coast.
The Space:
Hand-built by the owner himself in 2003, this home brings thoughtful design and natural surroundings to your next Sea Ranch escape. In this sunny clearing at the base of redwood-covered hills, you'll be less than a mile from the oceanfront Bluff Trail, the Sea Ranch Golf Links, and the outdoor pool, saunas, and tennis courts at the Del Mar Recreation Center.
Step inside to find a living space that's entirely on one level, with the common areas on one side of the house and the bedroom and bathroom on the other. Just in front of you as you enter are glass doors that lead outside to the deck - a private spot to bring your coffee each morning. Back inside, you'll find a light-filled great room that brings together the living room, the dining room, and the kitchen beneath lofty ceilings with exposed wood beams. A private washer/dryer is also on hand for your convenience.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
Retire to the bedroom and sink into the comfortable queen bed after a day of exploring. Additional sleeping includes 1 twin bed. Altogether, the home comfortably sleeps 3.

Guest Access:
The entire home is yours to enjoy -- make yourself at home from the moment you arrive. Driveway parking is available at the property. Detailed check-in instructions, including the door code, will be provided prior to your arrival. As a guest, you also have access to Sea Ranch community amenities including the pools, tennis courts, fitness center, and miles of trails. A recreation pass will be provided.
The Neighborhood:
The Sea Ranch is a one-of-a-kind coastal community on the Sonoma Coast, where miles of trails wind through meadows, forests, and along ocean bluffs. Nearby highlights include community heated pool (North) (7-minute walk), Shell Beach tidepools (7-minute drive), The Sea Ranch Lodge restaurant, lounge and café (7-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. For provisions, Gualala (10 minutes south) has grocery stores, restaurants, and a gas station. Jenner and Bodega Bay are scenic drives south.
Getting Around:
Plan for a 2.5-hour drive from San Francisco (Highway 101 to Highway 1). If flying, Santa Rosa's Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) is the closest option at about 90 minutes east. You'll want a car here -- the winding coastal roads are half the adventure.
Other Things to Note:
Enjoy stainless steel appliances in the open kitchen, a Netflix-equipped flatscreen TV in the living room, and two desk workspaces - one in the living room and one in the bedroom - in case you need to use the free WiFi to catch up on emails.
Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.
Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.
Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.

Loons Landing Review
Loons landing is a great place, relaxing, quiet, clean, and simple. The house is perfect for a couples getaway with all the basic amenities. Overall the place is priced fairly and we would consider staying here again in the future.
This was a perfect quiet place to spend the 4th. Loon Landing has everything you need to relax and enjoy Sea Ranch. Comfortable and homey. Loved all the little trails nearby.

It was my first time staying on the mountainside of sea ranch and loons landing was tucked away but still a really short walk to the bluffs where we walked the dog. The kitchen is fully stocked! Which was great. And actually much bigger than I expected from the pics. Would recommend to stay if just a couple of people.

Loon's Landing Easy Access
This was our 2nd time to stay at Loon's Landing and it is generally clean and convenient to Gualala and Point Arena being at the north end of Sea Ranch. There were some household issues that need to be addressed but easily fixable. Surroundings are pleasant with wildlife - deer, cute quail and other birds. Makes for an interesting walk in the mornings.
I had a project I was working on and needed some time away. Loon's Landing was prefect. Very comfortable and very well kept up. Several places to sit, relax and work. The gas fire place worked great for heat. Beautiful walks were right outside the door.
Simple. Complete. Sweet to sit beside the wood stove for warmth. Great food shop at the Surf Market in Gualala. Especially loved hiking miles of the Bluff Trails: seals, beautiful-amazing rock outcrops, one day of spectacularly huge waves/high shoreline splashes, the wondrous architecture of many homes, and one perfect sunset !
The house and property was beautiful! Location was quiet and beautiful. It would have been nice to have a few extra towels. Our biggest issue was the bed was super uncomfortable. It’s a spring bed with a topper on it and horrific to sleep on.
The house was clean and well kept. The kitchen offered all the cooking utensils, pots and pans that we needed. We also appreciated the local guide books as well as other interesting books to browse and read. The master bed and pillows were not particularly comfortable. Areas of the deck are also in need of repair.

Power outage
We were not informed about a scheduled power outage from 8pm til 6am in the entire area until we arrived to pick up our key at 5pm. The house was not equipped with any flashlight or candles.

I had such a wonderful time at Loon Landing that I wanted to stay longer! I loved cozying up by the fire and reading from the ample and interesting books. The kitchen is well equipped and I even baked cookies. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Sea Ranch.

Great spot
Sea Ranch for two can be hard to find. I feel like most places are better suited for larger parties so it was real nice to find a one bedroom that was ideal for just the wife and I.

Another peaceful stay
This was our second stay at Loon's Landing and we loved it. It's dog friendly, the kitchen is well equipped, the laundry accessible if needed, and it's a four-minute drive to town (Gualala) and an easy walk to Del Mar pool.
My partner, dog, and I stayed at Loon's Landing for 5 days. It was incredibly relaxing. We were very grateful to find such a wonderful place in Sea Ranch that was dog friendly. We weren't sure what to expect after reading other reviews, but were pleasantly surprised once we arrived. The furnishings, as mentioned by others, were simple, but the home was well equipped with everything we could need and gave us access to all of Sea Ranch. The kitchen was fully stocked with any cooking equipment you might need. And the home was well cleaned before our arrival.
We couldn't get over just how many trails there are around the property and throughout Sea Ranch. And the proximity to Gualala was convenient for groceries and restaurants. If you're looking for a fancy home, this may not be for you, but it had everything we needed and more. It's a great home base for exploring this stunning area. We'll definitely come back!

Bright Comfortable Home Great Hillside Location
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The home is in a lovely location very near town. There are several trails nearby. We drove down to access the Bluff Trail but it is in walking distance. The home is equipped with everything you would need for an enjoyable stay.
