About the host
Hosted by Victoria
Hey! I’m Magaly and I've lived in the New York City area since childhood. I've been hosting travelers from across the globe for two decades and have enjoyed the experience so much that I began renting out my family vacation home. When I’m not spending time with my husband and three daughters, I'm running my non-profit or out salsa dancing! Renting/hosting travelers has enriched my life and I want to continue providing affordable residential accommodations from homestays and apartment shares to private rooms and vacation rentals.
Why they chose this property
The Village of Chatham and the surrounding area afford many amenities and activities. Chatham’s Main Street has developed significantly as of late and there are many fine restaurants for every budget. You'll also find boutiques, antique shops and wine stores in the village as well as the landmark Crandell Theater, home to the Columbia County Film Festival. The Chatham Brewery is a relatively recent addition to Chatham’s Main Street, where patrons can enjoy a meal, a freshly brewed pint, and occasionally live music. Another favorite of ours is Bimi’s Cheese Shop, an artisanal cheese and fixings shop that is as decadent as it sounds.
Many visitors enjoy skiing in the winter, as there are several slopes within 30 minutes of the Chalet, including Catamount and Jiminy Peak. Fall activities include the Columbia County Fair and places to pick apples and pumpkins.
The Berkshire Chalet is located eighteen miles due west of Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony and one of the most famous music festivals in the world. There are many other concert opportunities including the Leaf Peepers series and Tannery Pond Concerts. Tennis and golf, horseback riding and miles of hiking trails are also within easy reach.
What makes this property unique
The Berkshire Chalet is a spacious, 3-bedroom 2-bathroom, single-level home. Upon entering, the vaulted ceilings expose the dramatic beam structure of the house. The few artworks displayed on the wall serve to accentuate the architecture and materials of the home. A cathedral ceiling runs the length of the structure with numerous skylights throughout the space. A stone fireplace, fifteen-feet-wide and two-stories-tall, dominates the main living area.
The house also boasts floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, dining room, primary bedroom and the first guest room. The gourmet kitchen, fitted with KitchenAid appliances, flows into the dining area and living room complete with Italian ceramic tiles, granite countertops and wide-board pine flooring. The bathroom attached to the primary bedroom includes a claw-foot tub that sits beneath a window overlooking the surrounding woods. There is a separate laundry/pantry and a full basement. For those who may be so inclined, there is a large Steinway upright in the house for your pleasure.
