About the host
Hosted by Christopher Matthew Le Grand
I’m a Charlotte local who loves creating comfortable, memorable spaces for travelers. Hosting gives me the chance to meet people from all over and share a little bit of what makes this area special. When I’m not preparing the home for guests, you’ll usually find me exploring new restaurants, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with family. I want every guest to feel relaxed, cared for, and completely at home during their stay.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with this neighborhood because of its incredible history and charm. The building itself is a 126‑year‑old cotton mill that’s been thoughtfully converted into condos, keeping the original character while adding modern comfort. There’s something special about staying in a place with real roots — exposed brick, tall ceilings, and a sense of authenticity you can feel. The surrounding neighborhood is relaxed, friendly, and full of personality, which makes it a place I love sharing with guests.
What makes this property unique
What makes this property truly special is that it’s located inside Hoskins Mill, a historic cotton mill built in 1903–1904. The building is over a century old and was once a major part of Charlotte’s booming early‑20th‑century textile industry. Originally designed as a three‑story brick mill, it housed weaving on the first floor, carding on the second, and spinning on the third — all powered by the region’s growing manufacturing economy.
The mill was constructed by J.A. Jones Construction Co. and engineered by W.B. Smith Whaley, both key figures in the era’s industrial expansion. It later became part of the Chadwick‑Hoskins mill network, one of North Carolina’s earliest corporately organized mill chains.
After operating as a textile mill until 1985, the building was preserved and eventually converted into unique residential lofts and condos. Its original brickwork, tall windows, and industrial architecture remain intact, giving guests the rare chance to stay inside a National Register of Historic Places landmark.
Today, the property blends historic character with modern comfort, offering an experience you won’t find in a typical condo or apartment. Guests get to enjoy the charm of exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and the authentic feel of a restored mill — all while being part of a neighborhood that grew around this historic textile village.
