Birch - Island Farmhouse Retreat in Lake Champlain Stay on an island in Lake Champlain!
Accessible only by boat, Garden Island is a 30-acre island offering a rare and peaceful Vermont escape. Birch is Garden Island's second largest home, a historic farmhouse built around 1850 and set on an open lawn with views stretching toward the lake. Guests enjoy full access to the island's sandy beach, open meadow, and wooded walking trails. Spend your days kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, or taking the kids out on a paddleboat. All non-motorized lake equipment is included in your stay. Swim from the dock, relax in a hammock, or enjoy evenings under a sky full of stars. With no cars on the island, the setting is calm, natural, and intentionally unplugged. Birch combines historic character with generous gathering space. The large screened-in porch overlooks the lawn and toward the water, ideal for family meals, board games, and long summer evenings. Inside, the home offers four bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms, comfortably accommodating larger families or multi-generational groups. One bedroom and a full bathroom are conveniently located on the main level, making the layout accessible and practical. Upstairs bedrooms provide additional space and privacy. With its classic farmhouse proportions, wide lawn, and proximity to both beach and meadow, Birch is well-suited for families who want room to spread out while staying connected to the lake.

The Island is lovely. House was not as clean as it could have been. Caretakers were very nice and accommodating. Lake amenities were terrific.

Great location
Great location! Very helpful and friendly island staff! Wonderful screened-in front porch overlooking the lake. Nice beach with access to different water crafts.
As the listing indicates, there is no A/C (and also no ceiling fans) - the property manager did bring in box fans after we asked. The house is older but clean. It doesn’t have a lot of the usual amenities and wasn’t as comfortable as other places we’ve been, but our family had fun.

The Island
This was a great vacation, the on-island staff were very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. They had kayaks, paddle boards, & toys. The sandy beach is a great hub of the island. Thanks for a great time!
