We absolutely loved our stay at Hermosa Hideaway! From the moment we walked in, it felt warm, inviting, and beautifully designed. The décor strikes the perfect balance between modern mountain charm and cozy comfort, and every space felt intentional. What really stood out were all of the thoughtful little details. The kitchen was stocked with a great selection of coffees, teas, creamer, and everything you need to settle in without making an immediate trip to the store. The bathrooms were equally well-appointed with quality essentials that made it feel more like staying at a friend's beautifully curated home than a typical vacation rental. The natural light throughout the home is incredible. The large windows, high ceilings, and open layout make the space feel bright, airy, and relaxing from morning to evening. It was the perfect place to unwind after exploring Durango and the surrounding mountains. If you're looking for a place where you can truly arrive, unpack, and immediately feel at home, Hermosa Hideaway is it. We would absolutely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the Durango area.

About the host

Hosted by Andrew and Kammie Schuhmann

Host profile image
Andrew and Kammie live on the property with their two young daughters, Alyx (8) and Summer (7). Andrew and Kammie are avid mountain bikers and bikepackers, have both biked the entire length of the Colorado trail (which ends in Durango), and love sharing info about their favorite trails. Just ask! Andrew is a teacher and musician, performing both solo and with a harmonica player around Durango frequently; check out his calendar @ theSanJuanderer.com. Kammie is an ER nurse at the local hospital. Try not to visit her there while you're here!
Kammie's family has long roots in Durango.

Why they chose this property

A third-generation Durangatang, Kammie's family has deep roots in Durango and the West; her paternal grandfather was a miner in Silverton and Moab, and her mother traces their lineage back to the Hole in the Rock voyage of the Mormons in Utah. Kammie grew up on this property, which Andrew and Kammie purchased from her parents in 2020. (Her parents live next door.) She's got the local knowledge!

What makes this property unique

Amazing location, with close access to all that the San Juans have to offer! Amazing 360 degree views of Hermosa's Red Cliffs and trail access.

If you're lucky, you'll get to see our resident deer herd, and perhaps even the elk herd that hangs out in the meadow sometimes during the winter. There can also be bears and coyotes in the area, so do not leave trash or food outside, and close your vehicle windows at night. Do not approach the wildlife!

Time it right, and you can have a front seat view of the Hermosa Balloon rally, with dozens of hot air balloons taking off from the meadow next door. It takes place twice a year, in the Fall and Winter.
