House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-5)
The decision to establish roots in Durango was a very personal choice for our family. In 1992, our youngest daughter was granted a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and our family of six flew to Disney World for a week of non-stop stimulation. When we returned to California, we were determined to fulfill another wish of hers - to find a place in the mountains with big trees and wild animals that we could all enjoy as a family. After considering Ashland in Oregon, Flagstaff in Arizona, and Lake Tahoe in California, we were referred to Durango by a friend. The locals were so warm and without pretense that we immediately felt comfortable in the setting. There was so much to do, so many places to see, that we were sure that we had found what we were looking for. It's been twenty years since we were fortunate enough to find Pine Point. Thankfully, everyone in the family is healthy and now we experience the area with our grandchildren as well. Sharing our home with other families has always been part of the plan.

Why Owner chose Durango
Living on the West Coast for the past forty years, our family has always enjoyed a true mountain experience away from the beaten path yet appreciates the amenities provided by city culture. The Needles range of the San Juan Mountains provides such an experience as does the city of Durango with its fine restaurants and diverse cultural opportunities even though it has a population of just 17,000. When we first purchased this home it was a 600 sq ft summer cabin without a well, heat, or decks to take advantage of the amazing views. We have doubled the size of the house anchored by a twenty five foot south-facing wall of glass to make living indoors seem like living outdoors. The challenge of continually upgrading the living experience at Pine Point with the input of guests and friends has always been and continues to be rewarding. Many of our guests come back or refer their friends. We are confident that you will feel the same way.
What makes this House unique
The setting is not only stunning, but a perfect distance (17 miles) and a great drive south to town, and in the other direction yet another memorable drive (25 miles) north to Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, and the original 'Million Dollar Highway.' With two lakes within walking distance, an abundance of trails in any direction, and the immediate glacial views of the Hermosa Cliffs, it is no wonder that the locals refer to this area as the Gold Coast of Durango. But perhaps the most unique aspect of our home is the downstairs apartment. As parents of four children, we designed this space to be a sanctuary away from everyday family life complete with a kitchen, bath, and 270 degrees of glass to take advantage of the views and peacefulness. An intercom and outside stairway connects the two living spaces. The arrangement has worked incredibly well for everyone as our children are able to enjoy their own space as well. * note - sometimes, families decide that the teenagers use the apartment which seems to suit everyone just fine. Parents then use the enclosed master bedroom with views in the upstairs loft.

Family of four stayed for 10 days. We returned from daily outings to paradise. I could sit on the porch for hours staring out at the cliffs and the tree covered mountain sides. Be sure to read the details on the bedrooms, as the arrangement is slightly awkward for a family with young children. But it didn’t bother us at all.
Amazing views and cozy house!
We have loved staying at Paul’s house, it was everything we needed! The listing’s pictures don’t do the house justice. The view from the deck is just... wow!! The great room is truly beautiful with the unbeatable view. We stayed 6 nights and had big days of hiking every day and absolutely loved coming home every night and using the stove to rest cozily. Our boys had a blast on the deck and surroundings. The location is very convenient as well, 30min from Durango, about the same to Silverton, with tons to do in the mountains. Mesa Verde is about 2hrs away, and a very pleasant drive. Thanks again for everything, we have wonderful memories !! We hope to come back!
This is a great place. Fabulous views. The owner is very responsive and helpful. We have stayed in several Vrbo places and this house is the best stocked home and kitchen we have seen. Extremely clean and beautiful. We will stay here again.
We appreciate your taking the time to relate your experience at Pine Point. Our goals for our guests are simple - to share what we believe to be a truly magical setting ... and to be readily available and personally involved if something goes wrong. Like wildlife showing up at your doorstep, the unexpected can often be the norm at higher elevations. Hope to see you again soon.
A beautiful cabin in the pines
Beautiful views and remote setting make for a relaxing retreat. House is well stocked and comfortable. A bit out of town and road noise is noticeable from the deck and with windows open, but the place is nice otherwise.
Very quiet, beautiful view, great area, cleanliness OK.
Beautiful area, great view in a very nice neighborhood. The coffee maker did not work well and needs to be replaced. The home shows its age but in good condition. The furniture was dusty and we had to wash the sheets in the guest bed because they were dirty and did not appear clean. The carpets and the couches need a good cleaning. Overall we had a good stay, our main issue was the cleanliness and the cookware was old and "very" used.
This review is a surprise, especially considering the reviews which precede it. We were booked solid in the five weeks before this party arrived so the house had been cleaned a number of times since a Spring deep cleaning in April. At least half of the bedding provided was new in May. We will take up all of these issues in a review with our cleaners, and do our best in the future to satisfy as many of our guests as possible.
Beautiful mountain getaway
Spent a week with my family. It was our first time in Colorado and we fell in love. We weren’t at the house much because we were too busy out exploring but it had everything we needed for our stay.
