Cabin w Views / Hot Tub / Firepit - close to Boone!
THE SETTING Tucked into the quiet mountains of Vilas, "Hangin' with My Gnomies" sits just minutes from downtown Boone and the historic Mast General Store in Valle Crucis — close to everything the High Country is known for, yet far enough to feel like a real escape. A golf course and a trout stream are within easy walking distance, and the furnished deck looks out to a nice mountain view that's especially pretty when the leaves turn.
THE HOME This three-story cabin sleeps eight across three bedrooms and three full baths, with a finished walkout lower level that gives everyone room to spread out. The top-floor primary suite has a king bed and a private bath with a glass walk-in shower and double vanity. On the main level, a second bedroom is built for the kids — two twin beds, each with its own twin trundle, flexing to sleep up to four. Downstairs on the walkout level you'll find a second king bedroom, a full bath, and a comfortable lounge with a wet bar, a stone fireplace, and a queen sleeper sofa. Hardwood floors, an open main-level living area with a cozy propane fireplace, and central air conditioning keep the whole home comfortable in every season.
THE KITCHEN The full kitchen is ready for everything from a quick breakfast to a holiday spread — granite counters, a breakfast bar, full-size appliances, a drip coffee maker plus a pod machine, and the pots, pans, and cooking basics you'll actually use. Gather around the dining table, then carry dessert down to the lower-level wet bar.
THE OUTDOORS Evenings are the good part here. Sink into the private hot tub, spark up the fire pit, and let the day wind down on the deck. There's a gas grill for cookouts, outdoor dining, and a wood-burning outdoor fireplace for cool mountain nights.
GETTING HERE You're about 10–15 minutes from downtown Boone and Valle Crucis and an easy drive to skiing at Appalachian Ski Mtn, Sugar Mountain, and Beech Mountain. A car is recommended, and 4WD/AWD is smart in winter. Exact directions and your door code are sent before arrival — screenshot them, as cell service can be spotty right at the cabin.
GOOD TO KNOW Self check-in with a smart lock. The home is not pet-friendly and is non-smoking, with no parties or events. It's a three-story home, so stairs are needed to reach the upper and lower levels. There is an exterior security camera at the driveway facing outward; there are no cameras inside. Please observe quiet hours, and note the maximum occupancy of 8.

About the host
Hosted by Nick Reuter
Hi! I'm Nick, and along with my wife Kathi and our three amazing kids, we split time between sunny gulf-coast Florida and the beautiful North Carolina mountains. We moved south from Massachusetts back in 2017, but the Blue Ridge Mountains quickly captured our hearts! There's nothing better than knowing our guests are making memories in a place that means so much to our family. We're hands-on, responsive, and always just a message away to make sure your stay is perfect!
Why they chose this property
The real magic of Vilas is how it delivers total escape without ever feeling remote. Guests get that deep-woods, tucked-away privacy — the kind that makes a mountain trip actually feel like a getaway — while downtown Boone is just minutes away, ready with lively restaurants, fun local shops, and the college-town energy of Appalachian State University. Craving a night out? It’s close. Craving total quiet? That’s here too.
Then there’s the adventure factor. The legendary Mast General Store — a High Country icon since 1883 — is a quick drive away for old-fashioned candy, mountain gear, and local treasures. Beyond that, trailheads and jaw-dropping overlooks are scattered across the High Country, practically begging for a sunrise hike, a scenic drive, or a lazy creekside afternoon.
Vilas is the perfect launchpad for a High Country adventure. Private enough to unwind completely, central enough to reach everything — the streams, the summits, the small-town charm, and the college-town buzz — all just minutes from the front door. This is what a mountain vacation is supposed to feel like.
What makes this property unique
What makes this home genuinely unique is the balance it strikes — something surprisingly rare in the High Country. It offers complete privacy and that deep-mountain, tucked-away feeling that makes a vacation feel like a true escape, yet it sits only minutes from downtown Boone’s restaurants, shops, and the lively energy of Appalachian State University. Most properties force a trade-off between seclusion and convenience. This one simply doesn’t.
History and adventure are baked into the location too. The iconic Mast General Store, a High Country landmark since 1883, is just a short drive away, along with a network of trailheads and scenic overlooks perfect for sunrise hikes, leaf-peeping drives, or slow afternoons by the water. Every stay here comes pre-loaded with things to do, without ever needing to travel far.
Ultimately, what makes this property stand out isn’t one single feature — it’s the combination. Privacy and access. Nature and culture. Quiet streams and small-town buzz. It’s a home base that puts guests at the center of everything the mountains have to offer, all within minutes, all without sacrificing that feeling of getting away from it all.
