Country Cottage - Cedros, typical Azorien Big House with garden and seaview

In the very quite countrysite you find an old farmhouse with a fantasic seaview, perfect for families with children, small groups or the lovely Holidays for two.
We renovated it for modern comfort but it is still a house with original character.
Hiking and discovering, enjoying nature, exploring the real life like the Azorian, watching the whales, taking a break from everyday life, swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, preparing fresh fish on the barbecue or having a nice meal nearby, a good book borrow from our library (German) and enjoy nature in the garden, there are so many possibilities. If you have any questions, the local administration can always help you. We recommend that you book a rental car at the airport.
Directly at the house but you can also explore the island without a car and just take one of the countless ways up the mountain or down to the village and continue to the cliff. Even the direct ascent to the caldera at 1,000 m altitude is possible.
You want to swim. The Beach Almoxarive is marvelous.
A special natural spectacle is the Capelihos, here the volcanic history of the Azores becomes clear.

Amazing house!

My family and I spent 3 nights at the property and we enjoyed every single moment of the stay. The house is beautiful and full of history. In the morning we could hear cows and chickens. Very relaxing.

Perfect place on Faial!

Telaxing holiday in a stylishly renovated Azorean house

The house is located on a hill and the neighbours are mostly farmers. The house offers all necessary facilities and as a guest you can also use its beautiful garden. A small supermarket and a baker are within 5 min driving distance. The hosts are very helpful and friendly and gave us some good suggestions for trips to interesting places and for nice hikes. If you like a relaxing holiday in the Faial countryside we can recommend this house.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the home in Cedros... It was the authentic home we were hoping to find. The views were amazing, the grounds lush and green and space in the home was perfect for our group. Our stay coincided with a very humid heat spell, so table or ceiling fans in the rooms would have been a much appreciated addition... It was a treat to see the photo album of the house as it was restored... what a labor of love!!!! All in all we truly enjoyed our stay in Cedros and felt connected to our family roots...

Family vacation to the motherland

We traveled with a large group and this was the only home that could accommodate all 7 of us. The owners reside in an adjacent home on the property. They were there if we needed anything but did not intrude. We had access to a washing machine, and the home has a bathtub which several of us enjoyed. The views from the property are incredible and you have a large outdoor area with a picnic table and BBQ. Definitely a rustic home with lots of old world features. It was challenging to cool down but I believe we had unusually warm weather. We purchased two fans and had to keep the doors and windows open and it was still quite warm in several of the rooms throughout the night. Leaving everything open invited a few unwelcome guests in (mostly crickets and beetles). Ants were also a challenge, don’t leave anything out including fruit. Mornings greetings from roosters and cows, no alarm clocks needed.

Wir hatten eine wunderbare Zeit bei Horst und Gitty! Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und fühlten uns sofort wie zu Hause. Die Lage ist sehr ruhig gelegen, mit tollen Blick über das Meer und umliegenden Felder. Das Haus ist sehr gemütlich eingerichtet und bietet sehr viel Platz. Horst und Gitty standen uns jederzeit mit Rat und Tat zur Seite, so dass wir unseren Urlaub ohne jegliche Einschränkungen genießen konnten. Vielen Dank! Schönes großes und uriges Ferienhaus in idyllischer Lage

Wir waren 3 Freundinnen und für 4 Tage in diesem schönen Ferienhaus während unserer Azoren-Rundreise. Sehr ländlich und abseits von Hektik und Trubel und mit diesem tollen Garten mit Meerblick kann man gut runterfahren und genießen. Die Vermieter Horst und Brigitta Evertz wohnen nebenan und haben uns sehr herzlich empfangen, gaben uns Tipps und standen uns für Fragen zur Verfügung. Horst hat uns 3 Frauen sogar mit einer Spinne weitergeholfen :-). Meine Freundinnen haben gut in ihrem Zimmer und Matratze geschlafen. In meinem Zimmer (Mittelzimmer) hat mich die Matratze etwas geplagt, was Familie Evertz arg war. Sie waren dankbar über die Info - woher hätten sie es auch wissen sollen und ich bin mir sicher, dass dieses kleine Problem schnell behoben wird. Alles in allem sehr empfehlenswert, toll und wir würden wieder kommen.

Erholsame Urlaubstage

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt in dem Ferienhaus samt Garten genossen. Der Empfang war herzlich und unkompliziert. Birgitta und Horst Evertz leben in dem benachbarten Haupthaus und waren bei Fragen jederzeit ansprechbar. Alles ist in dem Ferienhaus vorhanden, was man braucht. Die Beleuchtung könnte in manch dunklen Ecken heller sein, insbesondere in der Küche. Das einzige, was wir vermissten, waren ein oder zwei bequeme Sessel, in denen man ein paar Stunden mit Lesen verbringen konnte. Im Garten gibt es eine Tisch-Bank Kombination mit schönem Blick zum Meer. Einen noch schöneren 180 Grad Meerblick hat man von der Mauer am Treppenaufgang zur Eingangstür. Dort saßen wir gern mit einer Kaffeetasse in der Hand und versuchten den Blas von Pottwalen zu entdecken. Die Lage des Hauses ist sehr ländlich und daher wunderbar ruhig. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind im Nahbereich vorhanden. In der großen Molkerei gibt es einen Hofladen mit sehr gutem Käse! Leider hatte das Restaurante Pasquinha in dem benachbarten Salao Betriebsferien. Der Levada-Trail beginnt ganz in der Nähe des Hauses, Capelinhos ist auch nicht weit und Bademöglichkeiten gibt es etliche. Und ansonsten ist Horta mit seinen schönen Sandstränden auch nicht weit. Schön wars- deshalb können wir das Haus nur empfehlen!!

Unbeschreiblich schön!

Das Haus ist ein Traum im Grünen. Umgeben von Blumen im herrlichen Garten, nebenan ein paar Kühe und/oder freundlich grüßende Nachbarn. Der Blick aus dem Haus bzw von der Gartenbank in die Landschaft bis zum Meer und darüber hinaus ist einfach traumhaft! Das Haus selbst, ein ehemaliges Bauernhaus, ist wunderbar, sorgfältig renoviert bzw wieder aufgebaut und sehr schön gemütlich /wohnlich eingerichtet, mit viel Platz und allem, was mensch so braucht für einen entspannten Aufenthalt. Es fiel uns sehr schwer, das Haus nach einer Woche wieder zu verlassen, wir haben uns sofort heimisch und wohl gefühlt.

Ein kleine Idylle

Ein idyllisch gelegenes und sehr schön hergerichtetes altes azorisches Bauernhaus, mit wunderbarem Garten, etwas oberhalb von Cedros, zwischen Kühen und Katzen... Von überall hat man Ausblicke aufs Meer (und die benachbarten Inseln) oder ins Grüne. Im Haus gibt es alles was man braucht, sogar eine Dartscheibe. Sehr nette und unkomplizierte Gastgeber.

Ein wunderbares Haus und zauberhafte Natur

Herr und Frau Evertz bereiteten uns einen sehr persönlichen und freundlichen Empfang und waren bei Fragen immer für uns ansprechbar und hilfsbereit. Das Haus ist an Gemütlichkeit nicht zu überbieten und einfach nur zum Wohlfühlen, der weitläufige Garten mit seinen Wohlfühloasen und Ausblick aufs Meer lässt einen oft überlegen, ob man überhaupt eine Tour unternehmen soll (-: Die Ruhe, die Morgen- und Abendhimmel mit Grillengezirpe sind hier etwas ganz Besonderes. An Einrichtung findet man alles, von der komplett eingerichteten Küche bis hin zur umfangreichen Bibliothek. Wir haben eine ganze Woche hier verbracht, und es war noch zu kurz ...(-:

Maison typique avec jolie vue

Séjour court (2 jours) très plaisant et reposant. Idéal pour séjour plus long avec voiture car un peu éloigné de tout. Propriétaire accueillant. Jolie maison typique spacieuse et bien aménagée avec vue sur mer. Une très belle promenade à faire à proximité : la levada do Faial... magnifique! Mais attention : 2km7 de montée avant d’y arriver....

Wunderschönes Haus, sehr zu empfehlen

Wir haben unsere 3 Tage in diesem wunderschönen Haus mit herrlicher Aussicht aufs Meer und tollem Garten sehr genossen. Es ist genauso schön, wie es in der Anzeige rüberkommt. Der Empfang durch die Gastgeber war herzlich und wir hatten alles, was wir brauchten. Guter Ausgangspunkt für die Wanderung auf dem Levada Trail.

Tolles Ferienhaus!

Both of us worked in Berlin until April 2019, but now we spend most of our time there. If we ourselves are not on Faial because we both like to travel, you will be looked after by our German friends and neighbors.

Why they chose this property

Sea view and the then wild grown garden had taken us. An old stone house with a lot of history and endless possibilities. Since then we could not know that we would build 10 years and also in 1998, an earthquake with considerable destruction would throw us back. Still, we did not regret it.

What makes this property unique

As a city planner / architect I worked until 2019 in urban renewal. When buying in 1995, it was therefore a special charm to save an old farmhouse from decay and to build and prepare it as we ourselves would like to live. Maintaining the natural stone and making it visible in many places was just as important as using local woods. Last but not least, the house offered us the opportunity to furnish it according to our wishes.
