Lovely large private suite, family- friendly, private sandy beach 20 steps from the door! Floor to ceiling windows throughout giving panoramic views towards the open Pacific, Lennard Island Lighthouse and Tonquin Beach. The new Tonquin Trail begins at the end of Tonquin beach and leads through virgin rainforest, platform lookouts over Templar Channel and two more beautiful sandy beaches.The UNESCO Biosphere of Clayoquot Sound is at your doorstep. Discover the story behind the wreck of the Tonquin!
The three bedroom, two bathroom suite, large living room, dining room, with hand adzed beams, wood-burning fireplace, and sundeck create an ambiance not replicated in other Tofino homes. There is a king sized bed in the master bedroom with adjacent three piece en-suite, queen bedroom with completely new shower en-suite, and twin bedroom with extra long twin beds. The living area is spacious enough for games, the fireplace, and flat screen TV. The dining room table has space for 8 comfortably. A large south facing sundeck wraps around the three bedrooms, overlooking Tonquin Beach. At the main entrance, there is a small covered deck with large barb-b-que.
Following the steps down to the beach on a short trail, there is a beautiful pocket sandy beach, perfect for sunsets, outdoor beach games or a hot dog roast. A long beach walk can be enjoyed from the private beach to Tonquin Beach and beyond at low tide. Tonquin Beach is a hidden treasure, with cultural history, scenic coves, and a natural freshwater pool perfect for young children to enjoy. We also have a trampoline on the property that is available with supervision ! For those interested in fishing, you can fish right off the rocks in front of the house at high tide !
If you prefer, you can walk the 1 km. road into town to enjoy an evening meal or go shopping.
We have boogy boards available to borrow at no extra cost! Enjoy the simple Tofino experience of surfing, fishing, and hiking and eating at the best restaurants on Vancouver Island ! We will provide all the information you need to make your experience here memorable!

Beautiful location

The beauty of the location and accommodation exceeded our expectations. Stunning private beach. Cathy was warm, friendly and informative and made us feel very welcome. Cathy also generously provided us with salmon to cook for our dinner and offered her kayak for us to use. Would love to stay again if we are ever back in Canada. We will remember our stay fondly and as one of the highlights of our holiday.

Wow’y wow WOW!!!

This place is everything that the listing describes and more! The grounds, view and staired path winding down to the quiet beach are breathtaking! The suite is nicely decorated, spacious, comfortable and offers gorgeous views from every room. The host is lovely, welcoming and helpful but also gave us complete privacy. I can’t seem to find the words to properly express just how gorgeous this property is! It was difficult leaving and we can’t wait to return. Thanks so much :)

Perfect location

We stayed for 3 nights in this wonderfully located place. We were super comfy and had a wonderful time. The Beach House is obviously right on the beach but is also an easy walk into Tofino. It’s a little dated compared with other rentals we stayed in Canada and didn't have a dishwasher like others but it was charming and our host was helpful too.

A slice of paradise.

Our stay in the Tofino area was perfect and a big part of that perfection was the lovely property where we stayed. It had everything we needed, was spacious, clean and comfortable. I can't say enough about the location aside from it being a little corner of coastal paradise, and we enjoyed easy access to the beautiful beach, many spectacular views and the soothing sound of the surf. Our hosts, Cathy and Steven, were welcoming, responsive and very helpful with their knowledge of the area. Whatever adventures we may have embarked on during the day, it was always comforting to come back to our home away from home. Would definitely stay here again.

Great spot on the beach!

Overall the stay was everything they claimed it would be. Well worth it in my opinion! Could be some improvements in the signage for where to park vehicles and a sign directing you downstairs towards the beach since there are multiple buildings on the lot.

Fabulous property!

This was one of the most enjoyable properties I've stayed at with VRBO. The remote-feeling location right next to town perfectly captured the beauty of Vancouver Island, complete with a little cove beach that we had to ourselves. The house was well-appointed and large enough to comfortably accommodate 6 people. It was cold and windy while we were there, but the front room's huge widows and view of the beach made us feel like we still got to enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately, it was too windy to enjoy a nice, private fire ring that is located down a short path, right above the beach. We did hike the 3kmTonquin Trail down to Middle Beach and thought it was well worth the time - the board walk winds through old-growth forest between beautiful coastal views. Two things to be aware of for this property: 1) you'll need to carry your luggage down a well-built, but longer set of stairs to access the property; 2) The residential portion of town starts very near this property, but the commercial downtown is a pleasant 10-15 min. walk.

Just what we hoped for!

With so many scammers out there, I find it hard to trust by photo alone. The pictures and write up looked great, the reviews were awesome, but still I wasn't 100% sure. I was so pleased to discover that this rental was exactly as advertised! The rental space was beautiful and comfortable, perfect for the 6 of us. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The view and the beach were everything we had hoped it would be. Located near downtown Tofino, although you would never know it, it was convenient to shopping and dining. We ate great food, had campfires, played at the beach with the kids, and slept like babies at the end of the day. I would rent this beautiful accommodation again in a heartbeat!

Old Friends Reunion

Our group of 5 women over 50 thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay at Tonquin Beach. The pocket beach in front of the house was a great place to explore tidal pools and watch for whales. We explored the town and beaches of Tofino and down to Ucluelet during the day and played cards by the fire at the house in the evenings. The house was spacious and the beds were 5 star. The house was clean and homey with a spectacular ocean view. Cathy was a great host and gave us fantastic advice on hiking trails, beaches, cafes, and restaurants. We enjoyed our 5 day stay at Tonquin Beach and recommend it with top reviews. Thank you, Cathy!

Amazing Property!!!

My family and I stayed at Cathy's property during the Family Day long weekend - I will tell you this property does not disappoint! The accommodations were perfect with ocean views from every room. The family room/kitchen/dining area is huge and sooooo cozy with the wood burning fireplace. The walk to the semi-private beach is just steps from the door (maybe 30) - beautiful sand and gorgeous views! The host was so responsive and helpful. One of our most memorable and fantastic vacations ever! Thank you Cathy!!!

Family Tofino visit

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Tonquin Beach! The suite is just off the beach and was super comfortable for our family of five (3 teens included). We had beautiful weather (October!) and spent many moments day:night on the beach just a few steps out our door. We saw sea otters, seals, porpoise and a myriad of birds. We explored Pacific Rim National Park - meandering several beautiful beaches and a few rainforest trails as well. The home itself is very inviting and comfortable; our host was kind and attentive and informative. We would love to return and highly recommend a stay here!

Ocean views, peaceful, lovely property & host!

You can hear the ocean from the parking lot! Huge beautiful windows, your own private access to beach and firepit, wood burning fireplace, well stocked kitchen with thoughtful touches such as an open pantry, extremely comfortable beds, perfect layout, deck access from each bedroom, walking distance to Tofino, steps from Tonquin Beach trail...it was the perfect getaway for 4 adults. Peaceful. Exactly what we needed. Cathy is a delightful exemplary host providing excellent recommendations such as the Drift Cafe & our favorite: the Savary Pie Company, which you must try. The house has tasteful cottage features and decor. Cathy provides incredible value beyond expectation. And the sunsets were stunning. What a beautiful property. We can't wait to return soon!

We had such a great stay! The house is right near town, footsteps to a little beach, near tons of hiking, gorgeous grounds, and beautiful sunsets. The owners live upstairs so you will hear them above you a bit and see them around the yard. Cathy and her husband are super kind, friendly and helpful. We would love to come back again soon

Stop searching and choose this house!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience staying at "On The Beach" in Tofino, B.C. The location was simply outstanding, and I was thrilled to discover that the best tide pools in the entire area were right outside the door during low tide. It was a truly unique feature to have each of the three bedrooms offering lovely views. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed to prepare our meals, which made our stay even more convenient. Being within walking distance from town was another major plus point. Cathy, our host, was delightful and provided us with excellent recommendations. We were also grateful for her generosity in sharing her parks pass. Considering the current drought, I realized it would have been helpful to bring along paper plates/bowls and baby wipes to reduce water usage. However, we managed to make conscious efforts to conserve water during our stay. We practiced the "if it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow" philosophy and utilized the electric tea kettle to warm water for dishwashing in a basin. Additionally, we used a splash of bleach in the hot rinse water and reused it for pre-rinsing the next set of dirty dishes. Overall, I highly recommend "On The Beach" for a memorable and enjoyable vacation. It offers an unbeatable location, comfortable accommodations, and a thoughtful host who goes the extra mile to ensure a great stay.

Paradise found

I can't say enough about the location of this property. We ended up spending most of our time relaxing and enjoying the beautiful beach practically at our doorstep. The home is spacious and lovely, great beds and lots of light. This was our second stay here and we can't wait to return.

Perfect Family getaway

Our stay at On the Beach couldn't have been better for our family of four (two teens). The place was exactly as presented in the photos; clean, bright and airy with a beautiful view. The pocket beach was perfect for early morning coffee and gorgeous sunsets. We loved the walk to Tonquin beach and the proximity for walking into town. It was a little piece of paradise to return to at the end of a day of surfing. Kathy is a one of a kind host; she makes you feel like you are part of the family!

We bought our house in 1989, and began doing Bed and Breakfast in Tofino in 1990, as one of only 5 homes to do so. In 1998 we converted the main floor of the large house into a private vacation rental suite, allowing guests to share our experience of living 'on the beach'. My husband works at the hospital in Tofino, as a physician, and I serve on the District of Tofino Council, Tonquin Trail Committee, and the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust.

Why they chose this property

We chose this property for its 1.3 acre south and west facing beachfront, and its proximity to town and the local hospital! It is a very unique property, with two beaches, hiking trail, great kayaking, 'supping' opportunities, whale watching, breath-taking sunsets, and the best low tide viewing on the Tofino coastline. You can even surf on Tonquin Beach in the winter! The sunsets here are sublime!
