Our experience from the initial reservation through VRBO until we arrived home was terrific. The descriptions of the amenities and what the property offered were spot on. We look forward to visiting again next year.

Peaceful & Remote Family Vacation

We all had a great stay at the Knappshack and hope to return. The house was nice and offers great views. This is a great location if you want to relax, enjoy beautiful scenery, and spend quality time with your family. We enjoyed crabbing, fishing, riding bikes, bbq'n, watching movies, wildlife and just hanging out on the deck. Also, I must mention how nice and welcoming the neighbor's Mike and Kate were, which made our stay even more enjoyable. In addition, FYI, Dino's Pizzeria & Restaurant up the street in Cedarville has great pizza and other food. The only reason we did not give 5 stars for our review is the house was 92 degrees and very humid when we arrived and it wasn't until the next day that the house cooled down to a comfortable temperature.

Unique Experience

We had a great long weekend at the Knapp Shack. House was great, deck and dock were perfect for bayside fun! Kayaking, paddle boards and fishing. The home was very comfortable and stocked with games and puzzles for plenty of family time. The neighbors are so friendly.... they gave us fishing advise, fresh fish and a very nice boat ride! We loved hearing about the history of the area! I would recommend this property if your looking for a secluded area (Local population is 2 plus a very friendly 3 legged dog) to relax and enjoy all the nature the habitat has to offer including the bald eagles, ospreys, crabs and fishing. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. Overall wonderful experience. Thanks Charlie!!!

A Wonderful and Unique Experience

We stayed at this property for 3 nights in early May, 2014; the owner is very pleasant and accommodating and not at all intrusive. The exterior and interior of the house are beautiful and very well maintained. We had the good fortune of seeing this house in full, sunny, warm weather as well as cloudy, damp and cool weather; each had its own special ambience. During the day we went fishing at the beach in Fortescue [about 10 miles away] without any luck. That evening, my boyfriend started catching catfish right from the deck of the house; all in all , he caught eight catfish. The gentleman who owns the Bay Point marina sold us bait, and was also very helpful and accommodating. We had some help getting our photo taken together by a local fisherman at the marina. The house feels full of love and care; there is not one need that is not met there. We certainly plan to return to this special place, hopefully in the Fall of 2014. I have had the good fortune of world-wide travel and property ownership in the French Caribbean; I've stayed at some pretty ritzy places all over the world, and, its special way, this house ranks at the top of my/our experiences.

Definitely Different!

My family of five with 3 kids under 12 stayed here, an unbelievable remote location in Bay Point, Cedarville. Like the description, not your typical stay but a great one if you like being out there with incredible views. The birds, turtles, crabs and fishing were all great! The home is very nice and I enjoyed taking my outdoor showers listening to the beautiful surroundings! We visited Cape May and Wildwood, both great spots about an hour away. We ate at a few local restaurants which we were pretty happy with too! Charly is a great host, very responsive to any needs. The neighbors are super friendly too! All in all we had a nice vacation. The only drawbacks for us were the swimming, (July, we love to be in the water!!) I thought we would be able to swim at the house in the bay and that wasn’t quite possible. But after taking to some locals we found a few lakes to drive to and cool off. The killer horseflies were the other obstacle (prime season) But with bug spray and learning how and where to avoid them we made the best of our beautiful surroundings! My kids road bikes with no worries of other vehicles, we fished and played and had a great time. We always try out new spots for our summer vacation and we had an excellent experience in southern Jersey! Thank you Charly!

Fabulous House, Incredible Location

We went as a family of 4 with our two adult children. The location is like no other, in the salt marshes of the Delaware Bay, New Jersey. My husband, who is a bird photographer and a kayaker was in heaven. So many birds! Beautiful channels of water to kayak and see osprey nests close up. Also eagles and herons and egrets, oh my! We fished off the dock - caught striped bass and white perch. My crab pot/cage (provided by the owner) was more successful in catching turtles and oyster toadfish than crabs but it was always exciting to pull up the rope to see what we had! The house is beautiful, well maintained and the air conditioning was much appreciated as each day was in the mid-90's. Such a peaceful setting, sunsets were gorgeous. I highly recommend the outdoor shower - such a liberating experience to watch osprey and eagles fly overhead while taking a shower. The biting flies/greehhead horse flies were the only nagging issue - however I highly recommend anything with SkinSoSoft (Avon) in it . I brought SSS towelettes and they worked like a charm! We BBQ'd almost every night and played corn hole (also provided by the owner) on the deck. Combing the small beach below during low tide was also fun! Charlie (the owner) is awesome and will answer any questions you have. We will definitely be back! ~Karen, Joe and family

Great place

Excellent place on the water and exactly as advertised! A beautiful, unique area. Hope to stay there again as we have family in Commercial township a short ride away. And we love to fish and bird watch - it doesn't get any better than this! Owner and neighbor were great, just as mentioned by others.

Amazing Family Vacation

We are a family of 5 with 3 young children. This was our first get away with everyone and it was fantastic. You are 1 of only 2 properties on your own private waterfront road. The scenery is unbeatable, makes for great walks filled with wildlife. The children loved seeing all the different birds, especially the egrets and eagles. We were able to fish off the deck, as well as the dock, which was perfect for getting the little ones acclimated to fishing. The neighbors are awesome and will let you know any history of the area, and places to check out. We definitely plan on staying again.

Storm Survivors

If you want a relaxing stay on the water miles away from all the craziness, this is the place to be. The home was clean and comfortable, and was situated along the scenic banks of Cedar Creek right where it feeds into Delaware Bay. Even Tropical Storm Isaias couldn't ruin our vacation! The Knapp family are gracious hosts, and are always a phone call away if you need anything. Neighbors Mike and Kate along with their dog Parker are also nearby in case of any emergency. We highly recommend the Knapp Shack for a family getaway!

Perfect during quarantine

The place is perfect during quarantine. We didnt have to leave the house. We had fun fishing, crabbing and paddling. There's plenty of good movies to watch and games to play. We grilled and watch the beautiful sunset everyday. Buy your groceries ahead, bring plenty of bug spray, candles or fly trap and of course paddle boards or kayak. The owner is very responsive.

Wrong time of year

The home is a great space. The deck is wonderful and you can see the sun set over the water. Unfortunately the green flies were so bad we couldn’t sit on the dock or near the water. At night the deck was also a hot spot for flies- the good news is that we read the flies go away after the first moon in August- I’d wait till then to enjoy this house. The birding from the deck is wonderful. We had an issue with the air conditioner and the owner was responsive- unfortunately it couldn’t be fixed, but- he was very responsive. Also, if you are an angler this is your spot.

Call me anytime, we built the 'Shack' new in 2005. My grandparents are from the area and I knew the beauty that was there in the salt marshes and waterways.

Why they chose this property

Cause it's beautiful, and different. Alive with migrating birds, Red Knots, Snow geese, and other wildlife, otters, muskrats, Bald eagles, I've seen a Golden eagle there.

What makes this property unique

Has docks for your boat, boats including PWC ride on docks. Contact me if you want to bring your boats and skis.
Great 'Hideout'. Our little village was wiped out by Super Storm Sandy, all the homes are gone, except for ours and our neighbors, which sustained no damage. It's now our own private heaven. NO PLACE LIKE IT.
