Gossersweiler-Stein is a small, picturesque village in the southern Palatinate Forest in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is part of the municipality of Annweiler am Trifels in the Südliche Weinstraße district.
Here’s a description that will give you a good idea of what to expect:
🌲 Location and Landscape:
The village is idyllically nestled among the rolling hills and forested mountains of the Palatinate Forest, between sandstone cliffs, vineyards, and vast forests. The surrounding area is characterised by unspoiled nature—perfect for hikers, cyclists, and nature lovers. The view of the striking red sandstone formations, which are typical of the region, is particularly beautiful.
🚶‍♀️ Leisure and Surroundings:
Nearby are well-known hiking destinations such as the Rehberg Tower, the Trifels near Annweiler, and the Drachenfels near Busenberg. Numerous hiking and biking trails run directly through the town or start there. Rock-climbing enthusiasts will also find many attractive cliffs in the Palatinate Forest around Gossersweiler-Stein.
Bad Bergzabern is home to a beautiful thermal spa, and Dahn—with its large sauna area and spacious swimming pool—is also not far away.
🍷 Lifestyle:
As in many towns in the Southern Palatinate, socialising plays a major role—village festivals, club activities, and cosy wine taverns foster a strong sense of community. The climate is mild, and the region is known for its excellent wines and Palatinate cuisine.
🛺 Shopping:
There is now a 24-hour store in Stein that sells groceries and drinks.
Here, you can shop for daily necessities even on Sundays. Admission and payment are by debit card only. Q
The nearest larger towns, such as Annweiler, Bad Bergzabern, and Landau, are all within a 15-kilometer radius. In Landau, the largest of these towns, you’ll find not only groceries but also a lovely, bustling city centre area with cafés, bars, and restaurants.
📍 Conclusion:
Gossersweiler-Stein is a quiet, nature-loving town with plenty of charm—ideal for anyone who wants to experience the Palatinate authentically: rustic, welcoming, and nestled in the heart of one of Germany’s most beautiful landscapes.
