Visit the Teufelsgrund visitor mine with its healing tunnels—just a five-minute drive away—or the Benedictine monastery St. Trudpert, dating from the ninth century. Other nearby destinations include the picturesque old town of Staufen, the mystical Nonnenmattweiher lake in the forest, the Bad Krozingen thermal baths, and the sunny city of Freiburg with its cathedral and historic old town. If you wish to explore beyond the Black Forest, the Markgräflerland and Kaiserstuhl offer rolling vineyards and local wine taverns. A trip by train or car to Basel, Switzerland’s cultural capital, or a day excursion to Alsace, France, is also highly recommended.
