Great get away
Great clean and cozy cabin. It felt more private than most cabins we have stayed in. The check in and out process was very easy.
Peace in the Pines
A wonderful property inside and out. Great views, great fir a group. Nice bbq and we’ll equipped kitchen. Even saw a bobcat walk by!
Very comfortable home close to Colorado Springs
My girlfriends and I stayed at this property for a girls' weekend. There was plenty of room for the 4 us, each having a separate bedroom, and space to lounge and chat both inside and outside. The property is close to Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, and we enjoyed shopping, visiting the zoo and other local spots.
Be aware this is a mountain location and the roads are steep and narrow. In winter, 4-wheel-drive and/or snow tires will be necessary.
Unfortunately, neither the microwave nor dishwasher were working for our visit.
Plenty of towels were provided. There is a use/share policy on condiments, spices and other goods, so there are coffee filters, sugar, etc. there when you arrive. Plenty of cookware and dishes. Great deck, and a very nice outdoor grill.
High weeds around property. Master bedroom mattress cover had menstrual blood on it . Microwave was broke , dishwasher was broke . Furniture was stained . No air conditioning . Couldn’t sit on deck without smelling septic. Should be refunded half our money . Definitely not the nice cabin we sayed in Idaho Springs
Comfortable and close to just about everything!
We were all pleased with the house. The pictures are accurate. Some items could use replacement/updating, but never was the experience lessoned. We were able to take our parents on a day trip each day, with only a short drive. This made the afternoons and evenings a great time to rest and visit. My father was pleased with the vacation, and he is the toughest to keep happy. Just a great overall vacation.
One of the best trails in the area, the Mount Esther trail, which switchbacks up into network of Pike's Peak trails, is a short walk from the front door...

Hello, I'm a busy Mom of four kids ages 18 through 11 recently transplanted from central New Jersey to Oregon! My past job experiences have included teaching community college and co-founding one of the first parenting websites, Moms Online. Over the last ten years I've gotten involved in managing rental properties here in NJ/PA, volunteering (Girl Scouts and PTO), and working as Editor in Chief for fitsmi.
Katharine de Baun purchased this House in 2005
Why Katharine de Baun chose Cascade-Chipita Park
My husband and I bought this house as a bit of a lark - it was featured in a NYT piece in the Friday 'Escapes' section on Feng Shui homes. My mother-in-law was increasingly unable to travel and it just made more and more sense as we talked about it: why don't we buy it so we have a place for all of us to stay when we visit her? I did a little research about VRBO homes in the area and, at least at the time, there wasn't much competition (there's more now but we're still doing okay). We set up the house to please ourselves and our guests at the same time. It was a lot of work, and a lot of fun too.
What makes this House unique
We love, love, love the view at all hours, from watching the sun come up over the mountains early in the morning to dusk shadows and then sometimes a beautiful moon over the pass. My husband and I also love walking the Mt. Esther trail every morning we can (the head of the trail is a 10-minute walk away). When we're at the house, we enjoy complete privacy and the sense that we've gotten away from it all, but we also love the convenience of driving 20 minutes or less to many shops/attractions, from Colorado Springs to Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, Green Mountain Falls, Cave of the Winds, the local Rock Shop (our kids take forever to spend $5 in there!), Pike's Peak cog train, and more.
