About PAULINE GILES
I am the owner of Haut Languedoc Property Services and I look after this stunning property. This is me on holiday and this is how I would like you to feel when you stay at La Villa de Roucarasse. I worked extensively in operational management in the U.K. and management consultancy internationally before relocating to France 28 years ago. I live in the Haut Languedoc with my French husband and bi-lingual children and have been running a successful guest house, Les Quatr’ Farceurs, in the medieval village of Olargues for many years. I have served extensively on tourist boards and management bodies of tourist advisory agencies in the area in order to share my expertise with people wishing to penetrate the local tourism market. Les Quatr’ Farceurs was the first guest house to open in Olargues and I have done much to promote the tourist industry locally whilst working with local business people to maintain the best of French rural standards in the face of encroaching globalisation. I opened my property management agency fifteen years ago. In addition to my consultancy, property management and advisory services, I have personally selected a small number of properties to promote and manage for rental to clients wishing to discover this unspoilt and authentic area of France. Quality and personal service are watchwords for my team and I. I will only add to my rental portfolio if I believe that standards will not be compromised by taking on an additional property. I am helped by a small group of local residents to provide a quality service to guests who choose to select one of our rental properties. We have good links with local tradesmen to ensure that any maintenance problems are dealt with efficiently and rapidly. My team and I are all huge fans of the area and we are happy to share with guests our tips on the best places to visit, the unknown walks and the pleasant restaurants and bars worth discovering.
PAULINE GILES purchased this Villa in 2015
Why PAULINE GILES chose Lamalou-les-Bains
La Villa de Roucarasse is a beautiful contemporary villa with exceptional design values, nestling in the hills above the Belle Époque spa town of Lamalou les Bains (“ici même l’air est beau”.) Situated in a quiet, residential area, this elegant villa has stunning views of the lovely surrounding countryside and the forested slopes on which it is built. It provides attractive and comfortable accommodation in peaceful and idyllic surroundings. The large picture windows offer a magnificent vista of the wild forested garden, drawing you into the magical feeling of the surrounding natural landscape. Inside the villa’s unashamed contemporary character and modern clean lines are tastefully complemented by French poster artwork dating from the Belle Époque and First World War periods. Outside the pool terrace provides a wonderful outdoor living area for eating and relaxing. The views of the surrounding mountains will leave you spellbound. The 18m² pool (May to September) is cleverly designed to have a 180° panorama over the surrounding countryside of the Vallée d’Orb, the Caroux Mountains (known as the Mountains of Light), the Foret de l’Espinouse, the Plateau des Lacs and the forested garden. This is not an infinity pool but the closest one can get to it, as it is at tree top level. The pool, the three terraces and the upper mezzanine lounge provide plenty of opportunities for relaxation in different environments. This a haven of tranquillity – ideal for nurturing the creative spirit or just for renewing your relationship with nature, whilst enjoying the high level of services available such as a Sonos sound system, a TV with Chromecast, air conditioning, private parking, free WI-FI...
What makes this Villa unique
The additional bonus to this luxiourious villa lies in the charm of its natural situation, close to the heart of the Haut Languedoc Regional Parc. With a wild forested garden to the rear and a maturing garden, to the front, planted with a wonderful range of mediterrean plants and shrubs, the villa is however only 5 minutes from the charming town of Lamalou les Bains with easy access to all its shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. During your stay you will be met and looked after by Pauline Giles the Property Manager, who lives in the nearby village of Olargues. She and her staff are on hand to ensure that everything is clean and in working order for your arrival. They are also available to deal with any repairs or maintenance problems that may arise and are a fount of knowledge about the local area.

Wonderful villa with fabulous views. The ideal place to recharge your batteries!
We can't recommend this villa highly enough for a wonderfully relaxing holiday in a stunning location. Beautifully presented the villa had everything we needed to make our stay extremely comfortable and the pool was a very welcome bonus.
The surrounding area is full of wonderful restaurants and places to visit. We especially enjoyed tasting the local wines.
Thank you so much. It is such a pleasure to hear how much you enjoyed your stay.
Villa La Roucarasse
Très belle maison, moderne, très propre, bien située. Nous avons beaucoup aimé. Nous recommandons l'endroit!
Je suis très contente que vous avez autant apprécié la Villa. Au plaisir de vous revoir ici pour un prochain séjour.
What a fantastic view from the terrasse and thePool. Everything in the modern house is new. Amazing
A good location to visit the hotspots around (Montpellier, Cirque de Mourèze, Pézenas etc.). Good for familys.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to seeing you here again. Enjoy the rest of your time in France.
Modern, stylish property in a beautiful location
This house is ideal for a stay in the area. Perched on a hill with magnificent views, you can walk into town (although walking back is a little more difficult!). The property is superbly well equipped with everything you need for cooking and BBQing at home. The pool is stunning with ample space around it for dining and sunbathing.
On arrival we were met by Pauline who gave us a guided tour. There's an excellent SONOS sound system with three individual zones, and satellite tv.
The facilities and technology are brilliantly documented in an illustrated guide prepared in French and English by the owners.
The driveway is a little steep for low slung cars but I really can't think of anything else to complain about.
I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Villa de Roucarasse. Yes, the driveway can be a bit tricky as the Villa is built on a hill. It is best approached slowly if possible! We look forward to welcoming you here again.
Beautiful views and great house and pool
The house was really nice in a good location close to a lot of things to do and see. All services just nearby but still in a quite area. The views from the pool area, roof terrace and living rooms - just amazing! We had a great time and can really recomend it.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes the views are really amazing! We hope to see you here again!
Beautiful villa with amazing views
Very spacious, fully equipped modern villa. Lovely pool area and awesome views. Quiet and friendly. Quite a drive from the beach. Try Narbonne, it has some nice restaurants and the beach is huge. We would definitely stay here again. We all had a very relaxing time.
Thank you very much for your review. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay and would like to come back. Our nearest beaches are an hours’ drive away, but apart from the Villa’s lovely pool, we locals also love swimming in the crystal clear waters of the local rivers, lakes and gorges. I look forward to welcoming you back for another relaxing stay.
La Villa de Roucarasse is situated in a quiet, residential area above the Belle Époque town of Lamalou les Bains. It is 1.5 kilometres from the shops, restaurants and services of this elegant spa town, which include a municipal swimming pool, a boulodrome, tennis courts, horse–riding stables and a 9 hole golf course. It also has a casino, cinema (often with English language films), summer open air musical events and a theatre, which hosts a professional operetta season twice a year.
There is a weekly food market as well as frequent craft fairs.
The source de Vernière and its naturally sparkling spring water bottling plant is located on the far bank of the River Orb opposite the town. Lamalou les Bains plays an important role in the French healthcare system providing short term thermal cures and specialist longer term rehabilitation care and treatment for serious burns cases and all manner of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic needs. The level of services available in the town are therefore adapted to the yearlong requirements of tourists, in and out patients and curistes taking the waters, as well as visitors enjoying the spa facilities.
The medieval village of Le Poujol sur Orb is about 5 minutes’ drive from Lamalou les Bains. It also has a selection of shops and a small bar/snack. With an 11th century chateau at its heart, with foundations thought to date back to the 800s, most of the village developed around 16th century. Penetrate beyond the less interesting main road into the labyrinth of streets which make up the old village and delight in finding hidden squares and fountains and a vibrant mixture of architecture from several eras.
The stunning medieval village of Olargues is located a 15 minute drive away at the heart of the Parc Naturel de Haut Languedoc. The village is classed as one of the most beautiful in France and is of strong architectural and historical interest. The Parc is an area of outstanding beauty and is one of the most striking and least developed parts of Mediterranean France. Fabulous scenery, vineyards, mountain lakes, forests, rivers and gorges surround this quiet and unspoilt village.
The Gorges D’Héric, a ten-minute drive away from Lamalou, resembles a huge sabre slash penetrating 5 kilometres into the southern slopes of the Monts de l’Espinouse. It is one of the most outstanding beauty spots in this mountain range. The area offers spectacular walks, hiking and swimming in the crystal clear waters of the gorge’s deep rock pools and local lakes and rivers. The walls of the gorge provide the finest rock faces in the region and are therefore popular with rock climbers (there is a rock climbing school). There are several mountain adventure centres offering climbing, canyoning and mountain biking.
The busy coastal town of Beziers, close to the Mediterranean beaches, is only half an hour away for those wishing to visit a larger commercial centre or to sample the local beach life and excellent fish and seafood restaurants.
Situated in the renowned walking area of the Haut Languedoc Regional Park, this property offers a quiet and peaceful holiday with as many outdoor activities as you may wish to try:
Walking the river valleys and mountains through cherry orchards and chestnut woods, past vineyards and besides chattering streams, and across the slopes of the Caroux-Espinouse mountains; exploring the Piste Verte, following the old railway track which passes through Lamalou; cycle hire at Le Poujol, kayaking down the river Orb; swimming and fishing in the rivers and lakes; horse riding among the evergreen oaks; discovering the unusual and fascinating flora and fauna in the area......Otherwise enjoy the glorious views of the surrounding landscape and mountains from the house and terraces and relax completely in the comfort of this fantastic property.
