About this property

KINGFISHER BEACH HOUSE - West-facing , no bank waterfront - right on the beach!

Whether looking for a couple's retreat, a weekend with friends, or a family getaway to build sand castles and driftwood forts, the Kingfisher Beach House is the perfect combination of architectural and natural beauty. Nestled peacefully toward the end of a forgotten beach road, this home brings the Olympic Mountains and Admiralty Inlet into every moment of your vacation.
The 'Kingfisher' is so close to the beach that we built it on stilts and, from almost every angle of this angular home, you are greeted by water. At night, you will fall asleep to the chuckle of churning waves, and in the morning your eyes will open to soft light painted on the snow-capped Olympic Mountains. Once inside, you are surrounded by craftsmanship at its very best. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and baking, and the open floor plan allows you to be part of the action while you create. The main house has three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, a walk through closet for stowing your stowables, and a two-headed shower to refresh you after your day of fun. Downstairs are two more bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with twin-size bunk beds. The main level shower was designed after a Japanese shower room - large enough for multiples, with a deep soaking tub and showering area all in this same room. Feel free to let your kids splash until their splashers are tired, as this entire room was designed to get wet. This home was just completed and is now ready for you and your friends and family to relax at the beach.

While staying at the Kingfisher, you will experience this wonderful beach location with the comfort and privacy rarely experienced on beach property. Walk 200 yards south down the beach and you will be exploring over a mile of undeveloped, protected beach and tidelands. On any given walk, you and your friends and family will be sharing this space with kingfishers, eagles, osprey, seals, otters, and all of the tide-pool critters that live in the shallows of the Puget Sound. Keep your eyes on the water while you are cooking dinner or sitting on the deck and you might also see the porpoises patrol the beach. Please note that during the salmon run you can put on your hip-waders, secure a buzz bomb to your favorite pole, and cast with abandon. It is a well-kept, local secret that this beach yields some of the best salmon fishing on the island. If you have kayaks, bring them along, for a quick shove off from your beach will have you exploring some of the most beautiful coastline on South Whidbey.

The house has WiFi and smart TV, and is the perfect place to sit by the fire and watch the game. The deck has Adirondack chairs to lounge in and a propane grill at the ready so that you can feed the loungers.

I guess the big rule for the house is to have fun - lots of it! My main, humble asking is that you treat our family home with respect. We love this place! The home was built so that your family and mine can enjoy the beach for years to come.

Thank you so much for your interest and please enjoy the beach.

Andy and Maggie

Always amazing
What a trip! This is our 3rd stay here and we were blessed with a May heat wave that allowed us to actually have some water play with the kids. Sun or rain, though, this place is just a wonderful place for us to get away. Andy is the best host we've had and that continued this trip. Highly recommend!

All The Elements
We celebrated an anniversary with our family at this beautiful home. We were treated with days of sunny, spring weather, walks on the beach, bald eagle sightings, Rainier on the horizon, and the warming fire pit at night. Toss in fabulous meals, both at the house and the surrounding coastal communities, and we had all the elements of a memorable family vacation. Thank you!

Calming Retreat
This property is gorgeous (both the view and the house itself). A perfect relaxing long weekend tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Almost like we had our own private beach.

Thank you for your interest in our home. My wife Maggie and I, and our two young daughters, just moved back to Whidbey after 10 years living abroad. Maggie teaches elementary art, here on the island, and I manage the house and other small businesses. Construction of the Kingfisher was finished in August, 2014. We are excited to have created a place for you to come build family memories, and for us to spend time while on our summer breaks. Enjoy your stay, and when you do, please report back to us. We love hearing all about your adventures on what I feel is the best beach on Whidbey.

Why they chose this property

The Kingfisher was built with you in mind. From our first meeting with the architect, we constructed this house to be the perfect space for people to come and build memories at the beach. This is a luxury, one-of-a-kind home, where you, your family, and your beloved dog, can come explore the best of what the Puget Sound has to offer.

What makes this property unique

The Olympic Mountains and shipping lanes feel like they are part of this home, and falling asleep to the gentle lapping of water redefines relaxing. Don't take our word for it, come and see for yourself. You are always welcome!
